Thank you Aimee for this tutorial, by far the best one in how to best hammer in decorative nails. I recently did a bench but I had to resort to a nail strip 😢, I just could not get the nails even. From now on, this will be my go to video, cheers!
Hi. Just a thought. If you make a templet for the studs out of thin metal it would give you a positive stop for your studs and it wont compress and slide out easer. And you can use it forever.
If you start a tack on either end, you can run your rule into the two tacks and that will set your height and the widths will be right there on the ruler. Similar to how you used the cardboard but with more precision. Good job hammering! : )
Brilliant! I'm going to be using a similar type of stud on the top inside edge of a restored c.1875 trunk liner and this was incredibly helpful. Love the cardboard trick for uniform spacing. Thank you so much.
The 50s chairs we have are tacks all around n has a square in the back. Inside the square is all tacked too. We found 5 chairs. I had question about batting. Do you have more advice to replacing or if needed more batting for old vinyl chairs. Amazon as a great variety but not sure what to use. I’m n Maine
This was very helpful. I have a question about removing the tacks and replacing with ???. I am getting ready to reupholster 4 counter height chairs and 2- 4 ft bench seats all with backs. All 4 seat and back edges have tacks. I tried to count but was over 1000. They look almost identical to this chair's shape. What can I do in lieu of tacks. Thank you
I have watched several of your Vlogs and your are so awesome at this! You have way more patience than myself.... Could you (forgive me if you have already) provide some tips on outdoor furniture. I have a vintage sailboat I am restoring and really could use your help.
Robert Feldt Robert, you can go to the sail rite website. They have great boating tutorials and will teach you what kind of foam and fabrics are appropriate. Good luck
Hello TEACHER from I like very very much this Video is so important for cause I m learn and hope with you learn more thanks to you. Please try to onderstand me for my bad english.
What you don’t Hit Wood in your furniture......would your tack ‘fall out’ ? How can you be sure your tack stays in - would it be wise to put a dab of glue to each one?
If you’re not hitting wood, you shouldn’t be using these. Your frame needs to be able to accommodate tacks. You don’t need glue if this is properly done
Using a solid rule is easier than a tape rule, I like the cardboard template for marking the spaces and the chalk sharpener.
The chair looks beautiful.
Thank you Aimee for this video, good technique to make it easy. No immediate plans to do this, but useful information and teaching on how too.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Thank you for appearing 👍😊
Thank you! Going to do this project next weekend!
Wonderful…. and very helpful. Thanks for the tip.❤️
I predrilled holes for the tacks and they went in straight much easier and faster than without. It required less adjusting afterwards, too.
Fantastic idea.
I especially appreciated you showing me how to correct the spacing.
+Thanks for the feedback Judith Carey !

I found using needle nose pliers to hold the tacs. Saves fingers. But great overall tutorial

They’re just decorative, you don’t need them at all

Great tips! I truly appreciate it. 👍
+I’m glad it was helpful to you, perfumedlady! Thanks for the comment.
I remember my dad had a tack hammer
Use Mylar for your template guide instead of cardboard.
Great tip
When you get to the end of the cardboard and you pull it out to finish nailing, save the last one (don't nail it) to start with your cardboard again.
The best.
WHAT SIZE TACK did you use?
1/2”
@@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio oh thank you! l was not sure on that size for similar project. tks again. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays.

I went and purchased a Dritz spacer not even thinking to use cardboard as a template. I am ready to return it.
not worth the gas... think spacer is still good idea for many
