Crashed my Abus Aventor and decided to upgrade to MET Manta. This test reflects on my experience, the Aventor felt like a weaved basket on my head. Good ventilation but very slow compared to Manta.
Also switched to the Manta 3 years ago... i felt the muscles in my neck working more, cause the giro helmet was catching so much air and pushed my head back 😀
I only have a basic vented helmet, and a light-up commuter helmet. The light-up one is considerably heavier; when I got it, my neck took about a week to get used to the higher weight and now it is fine.... for 1-2hr rides. But I took it out for my first 100mi ride, and yikes my neck was sore. The next 100mi ride I swapped back to my lower weight vented helmet, and my neck was fine. Easier to maintain position. I'll consider an aero helmet, but for the long rides I think I'd prioritize weight, since my position and comfort is more important then. And commuting, I prioritize visibility, so my heavy helmet with blingy lights wins.
have been using a Kask Utopia for about 3 years as my only helmet, alpine climbs in summer and commuting in london winter.....never felt any reason to complain or change it for soemthign lighter or more ventilated. Plenty of research evidence to suggest that after body position it does have a significant impact in aero. i might not go faster but i use less energy so can go longer. As far as the video, it felt like there was much more potential and depth than provided here...
First helmet was specialized proper vented helmet. Then tried a kask protone, instantly hooked cos it was much safer, no wind noise so I'm more aware of traffic around me. Got a bontrager ballista, kask utopia, abus gamechanger, giro eclipse. All aero, no regrets. I cut my hair short in case I'm worried about ventilation hahaha
I use a Giro Vanquish for winter riding. I know I look a bit of a nob, but it's warmer, drier and the visor mists less than glasses in cold damp weather.
In winter my met manta mips helmet keeps the top of my head dry and in summer with less vent holes in the summer keeps wasps and other bugs from getting to my head, my head doesn't overheat as i have a cropped hairstyle
I don't care about watt or second savings at all. But not having a boat anchor on your head is the biggest benefit. I have Abus Stormchaser, a well ventilated helmet, Ekoi Aero 14 good ventilated aero helmet and Force Orca, low ventilated aero helmet for colder days. But all are between 210 to 230 grams.
I bought that van rysel helmet one thing i notice in the first ride, that i was sweating way more. So take that in consideration, we aint pros doing 50 km\h avg speeds :) Obs. i still use my new helmet but when it's hot i would use my old Giro Atmos 2 and it's a great helmet.
Exactly, that's why I got an aero helmet, mainly for winter. Just saw that the MET Manta aero helmet is even advertised as winter helmet on their own website.
This summer I switched from an AliExpress kask protone clone to something marketed as aero (and that looks aero), and I'm now faster. Didn't bother trying to quantify it, but I'm often over 40kmh and I'd bet the speed difference isn't in my head. Ventilation is shit but I sweat like a fat man anyway so I doubt it's counter productive.
No safety ratings were included for any of these helmets. Speed is not important if the helmet is not safe! If the helmet is not rated at MIPS or greater do not use it.
@@a1white Savings depend on different factors like CDA, position, speed aso.; thats why we can't say helmet A saves xx watts. "Aero-Helmets" are per definition helmets like POC Tempor, MET Drone, Kask Mistral, S-Works TT5....
Why is there such an obsession to be faster (especially when it comes from just buying new stuff)? Most people aren't racing anyway so does saving 5watts really matter?
I'm ok with anyone buying speed , i just hope they're leaving it until they've done all the big stuff first that you can do for free (lose weight & get the miles in)
1 long ad for a expensive "aero meter" nobody needs, and doesn't work in (heavy) traffic, it only works when there is nothing around you, that's why they ride on a track!!!
Have been considering an aero helmet for a while, will now be switching for sure so I can now get in to the top 500 of my local KOMs.
Wow. I was not expecting that much difference. My head would get so hot and sweaty in a non- ventilated helmet though
tbh I perceive way less difference with an aero lid than I expected
It's barley a difference in airflow uphill or downhill at least my specialized propero

That is absolutely insane, these are the exact two helmets that I own.

This is great news, I just bought the Van Rysel helmet

@roadcc At what speed were you traveling? Saving depend on that a lot.

I'm faster after the Remco haircut 🙂
So aero helmet could be better for winter.

thank you for your video ; it would be very cool to compare aero helmets between them to see which one is the best, what do you think ?
Much appreciated
It’s hot here in the midlands of South Carolina-I’ve gone ventilated,
I have both dépend of the weather

So aero helmet would make a good winter helmet?
Certainly would!
Not all helmets have the same crash performance. The standards are very crude. Look at VTec Helmet Ratings for insight.
No safety ratings were included for any of these helmets. Speed is not important if the helmet is not safe! If the helmet is not rated at MIPS or greater do not use it.
Will you test some of the cheap Chinese aero helmets? Like Rockbros Aero Helmet?
i normally wear a baseball cap so one of these would be even better
Shouldn't this be labelled as a Paid Promotion?
80% decrease your speed if you have a large body😂😂😂😂😂
Extreme skinny jeans negates the whole video. 😅

Faster can also be seen as easier. If I can ride that Gran fondo in roughly the same time with less effort, I’m all for that!!
Because people find it fun?
