These are the tools that keep Snap-On trucks rolling. Smart techs don't buy screwdrivers from them, they get this stuff.
Absolutely never buy screwdrivers biggest waste of money 👍🏾
I don't work on planes, but thank you for showing real world examples of the ratchet in use.
Trust me once you use this wrench to wrap around behind a "header" you'll see it was worth every penny, this is my absolute favorite wrench,
Opens up a fuel cell and coworker yells "let me light up a cigarette" ahh aviation humor.
1:33 “because you spent too much money on that tool” 💀
Wasnt convinced when the rep showed it to me(3/8), but i negotiated low enough that it was worth a shot. Thing saved me a headache on a mustang rear handbreak adjustment and i immediately messaged my rep for the 1/4 in. Amazing tool
Lemme hold it. I'll give it right back.
Sure……
I got the steel handle version of that a few years ago free when I bought a set of FDX sockets. I really wasn’t interested in the ratchet but I’ve since found it’s handy for ratcheting around things - like a bell housing.
I’m watching this to see whether or not it’s worth being yelled at by the wife for buying another $180 tool and after seeing the “speeder” feature…it’s definitely seems like it’s worth the screaming
The “Except for me!!” Got me, I’m not gonna lie, just laughed my ass off over nothing
I work in the airlines and I swear if you dont use an electric rachet for everysingle job people will give you shit and be like dude why dont you just use an electric rachet ugh
I have it but actually never thought to use it in the free spinning mode.
Dude......I always thought this was a gimmicky ratchet, but now I got to get one..... GREAT vid n even better great real world examples 👍👍👍
Heck no man! When I was first starting out, my mentor had one. As fate would have it, eventually I had to leave that job and ended up states away. First Ratchet I bought when I started my job was that one. Love it.
Just bought one of these and it works amazing
I still use my old USA Craftsman socket speed wrench when I can. Like on that wing. For some reason I just enjoy using it. Of course it is only usable if you have the space.
I like that Snap On ratchet you have there. I will definitely be adding it to my arsenal.
I had read some where that the avg Teck has 18 ratchets, I have went beyond the avg but I just cant help it, whenever a new shiny ratchet comes out it calls to me.
Thanks for feeding my addiction.
Stay strong brothers.
I never thought i would ever have a reason to buy one of those but i have never seen one in action now i have to have one in 3/8 & 1/4 my wife said to tell you thanks for giving me a reason to buy more tools
Matco AIR6
Armstrong 10-996
Proto j4757l
Mac mr18 (out of production)
Titan 12095
Gearhead Gh6013
All of these are 1/4 indexing ratchets at different price points.
The Titan 12095 is the only one that can swivel all the way around so you can use it as a speed handle. It comes up in searches but they’ve discontinued it. Another viewer overseas sent me a link to one made by Toptul that looks like a clone of the Titan
@@CreativeMechanic oh I figured they'd all be the same in how they worked, that's a bummer man. Well I guess again I'm shown why snap-on tools are worth their price 😆
All the same except the speed handle thing. I had one I bought in 2006 from Blackhawk at lowes and it was just like the titan
@@CreativeMechanic by chance can you drop the link for that Indexing ratchet by toptul?
Neat never seen this ratchet before!! Imma look for these!
Currently the 3/8 version is the only Snap-on ratchet I own. It has come in handy many times. Its honestly the only one I grab now. I gotta get a 1/4" one next
Ya know... You might have just sold me on this.
Best ratchett iv ever brought! This and the 1/4 are an absolute must in every toolbox. It very quickly became my go too everyday .
Buy it guys its worth every penny
i have a couple of older Husky indexing ratchets. Not sure if they're still available. good demo vid
Dang now another ratchet I “have” to buy. Very cool
One of the best ratchets for aviation. I still use my electric ratchets and 1/4 impact drivers for other things. Obviously fuel cells never use electric lol
Blue Point made this ratchet 20 years ago and I still have it and use it now Snap-on just started making it again
Yea. It was difficult to get one, hopefully they will start appearing on more tool trucks
I’m a hobbyist and I looked at the HF version, and HATED their design. So, I ordered the 1/4” Snappy and will swap in the 3/8” drive.
Cool ratchet, I mainly work using 3/8 tools on my car. I can see you a tight space on an aircraft is perfect for this tool.
They make a 3/8 version
You can convert it to to make an ultra compact 3/8 version for around 20 bucks.
rkrfc72 repair kit( I believe is around 12.50$) and fc72-2 faceplate(about 11$)
@@CreativeMechanica home mechanic may not recoup the cost, but for a pro it is worth every penny.
Fyi brushless tools don't make spark like old brushed tools so anything in Milwaukee fuel is ok to use But definitely don't use brushed tools near anything flammable
Where's the fun in that
You never know, changing out batteries sometimes sparks and not only are you risking your life, you're risking the lives of your team. Over 40 years that tiny 1 in a million chance might happen
I like the the Snap-On ratchet. I have a 6" long ¼" Matco chrome handle indexing ratchet.
The Matco doesn't go 360° like the Snap-On. It stops where the head meets the handle. I love it for confined spaces. Underneath an intake, timing belt job, etc.
The video demonstrations:
I thought you would've done better to use an extension with an electric ratchet in most cases.
Also, what's wrong with using a brushless electric ratchet when working on a fuel tank? They don't rotate the socket fast enough to make a spark unless you're actively trying. And, Because you have a brushless motor, there's no spark occurring within the tool.... Right?
I guess I'll find out one day when I go up in flames like Jay Leno working on his steam engine. Good video.
My electric ratchet is not brushless and Avgas is more flammable than automotive gasoline
Oh.@@CreativeMechanic
I think Stanley Tools makes one
Looks neat, not sure I'd ever use it. Never had need for one. Also being out of plane with the handle seems like it would be annoying.
used mine on my lawnmower
Gooood. Goood
please do a video on that snap-on foam set w the ratchet
The low profile set ? The other set is just sockets but I’ll make a video
I have one of these, but from Mac. I don't know if they offer a 1/4 drive version or not.
Lol yes! I know how to use it, but I tend to forget it exists.
If the electric ratchet is brushless you'll be fine
That’s what Paul always said….. R.I.P. paul
1:20 is that RATM playing in the background? Can't tell for sure.
I think it's Snap On patented. If anyone is going to rent the rights they will have to charge SO prices. The adjustable flex head ratcheting wrenches are you held by Gear Wrench. Snap On just uses Virgin steel etc, but pay royalties for the design to GW.
I have 1/4 one from matco but I don't think it goes 360 it stops at the handle and I have cheap one from tractor supply in 3/8 but same issues though
Snap on basically reinvent the speed bar but with more usability 👍🏻👍🏻
The Matco one is Okay.. I like their 88 tooth ratchets and that one with a rotating head would be great too
I did what you said and got plenty of gas into the filter and no air in the line. Took off the hose to the carb and turned it over. It shot gas way out so the pump works and has gas, but no matter how much you crank it it won't start without a shot of starting fluid in the carb. Any ideas? Once it starts it runs perfectly until you shut it off then it wont restart.
What’s the part number on that quarter inch low profile snap on socket set in the foam
Matco has one. As for budget friendly brands I'm not finding anything other than the harbor freight 3/8 and 1/2
I used to have one by Blackhawk that was 1/4 from Lowes. Very sad when it broke
Even though you don’t use electric in fuel cells do you still use them for other hardware on the aircraft? I use the Milwaukee high speed ratchets and it saves a lot of time. Sometimes I have to use specialty ratchets depending on the job.
I don’t use them when I’m taking off 300 gallon fuel tanks… other than that I use my electric ryobi all the time
@@CreativeMechanic yeah fuel tanks is an obvious one. I just thought there were stipulations about using power tools in general. My buddy who works for Korea air using power tools all the time. Lol.
Low backdrag I guess you haven’t tried the KO-ken Z-series, Nepros, or tones.
I like them too. But the Snap-on is high quality too. A lot of “teeth wars” going on in the industry, remember the steel man pro 160 tooth ratchet that was absolutely garbage? My favorite ratchet is actually the Wera Zyklop 3/8, for whatever reason it’s way smoother than any of the 1/4 zyklops I’ve had
You can use brushless tools around av gas!
Once
@@CreativeMechanic someone obviously doesn't understand what BRUSHLESS means
Got mine today
Armstrong made them 1/4-1/2. They don't go 360 however. Also, Harbor Freight sells them for $20 or less each, but no 1/4" drive. The Harbor Freights are only 48 tooth but are guaranteed forever
I do have the Pittsburg 3/8. And I have broken it like 3 times.. I don’t think they were intended to be used like this, but it’s definitely a life hack.
How do you break something 3 times? What were you trying to remove when you broke the
@Romulan112 three separate occasions over the years. The ratchet head stays in tact, but the Pittsburgh strips easily on the indexing mechanism.
The storms subsided where i live. so, i tested this indexing ratchet. The 1/2" version. I put a 19mm socket on it, placed it at 45 degrees angle. I then pulled up with all my might on a lug nut. Didnt budge. I then rotated the ratchet so I am pushing down with my muscle and weight. The lug nut started moving. The wrench did fine. Only issue was that the plastic handle at the end seemed to flex. Perhaps the metal handle underneath doesnt go all the way up. I am an average joe. I figure, either you are super strong or you are using a cheater bar to break yours. @@CreativeMechanic
@@CreativeMechanicit's Chinese garbage, who is surprised it broke?
👍 🔧
Try proto tools
Just don't use brushed tools around fuel
Tooth count is 72 hence the part # ? What is it T72MPH ? MPRH ? LMPRH ? Something like that, Good piece. I have the 3/8 MP 872 F872MP, I think it is
Matco has one.
It doesn’t spin freely all the way around to use like a sleek handle
*speed
Anybody found a cheaper 1/4" yet?
Nope
Hi, where can i contact you about the product sponsorship?
Idk I’m not sponsored
P/N? I've search snap on and can't find 1/4"drive.
Th72MP
@@CreativeMechanic thanks 👍 I enjoy your videos on both channels. It's crazy a few times when your videos come out we are dealing with the same issues on same type aircraft.
I thought aviation mechanics used f.o.d ratchets?
This is GA, the Wild West
What is nipks?
Knipex
@@CreativeMechanic you just decided to not pronounce the K?
Like
Knife
Knight
Know
……
@@CreativeMechanic no you prenoune the K it is german. It has nothing to do with a knife
This is going to be my first purchase from snap on. Having my friend who has an account get it for me at a discount. And as for not being able to use electrical ones. Just buy a brushless impact. Brushless motors don't spark like the old brushed motors do so they're safe to work around fuel. Granted certain job sites might not allow it anyway just cuz saftey guys are pricks lol
When it comes to making it home at the end of the day… I’m using this. Someone drops your brushless ratchet and doesn’t tell you. You use it around Avgas……boom… no do overs
