Remember walking with my old man down the street to get some Italian ice can’t believe it’s change so much. Little Italy no more.
It changed so fast
This was never little Italy . Little Italy's in the city . This is Bensonhurst.
BABYand US um. It was little Italy....I lived and grew up here it's now gone.
There’s still Italians but not as much.
It was predominately Italian and Jewish.
I grew up here in the 90s, moved to Florida in the 2000s. A few days ago, I came visit Brooklyn and places I grew up at after a long time, and I was shocked that 86th st/Bay Parkway was an influx of Asian things and people everywhere!
I could sit and watch this for hours!
Me too. I lived at 86th and Bay Parkway for 24 years. Moved to the Pacific northwest in 2014 and I miss the old nabe SO much!
Bensonhurst used to be Jewish, then Jewish and Italian-American, then mostly Italian-American, and now it is mostly Chinese, with lots of Italians, Hispanics, Russians, Hasids, and Middle Eastern people. Everyone seems to get along just fine. The ones who lament how bad Bensonhurst has become are the ones who moved out, and nobody forced them to do so. I have lived here for 53 years and the neighborhood is still fine, with low crime, access to public transportation, good public schools, excellent shopping and all kinds of restaurants. There are more pizzerias than ever, including Da Vinci's and J&V on 18th Avenue, which were there 50 years and more ago. We have Italian, Chinese, Mexican Sushi, Thai, Russian, South American and Middle Eastern restaurants. I also have seen yuppies in the area, especially in some of the better dining places.
I grew up there, sorry but it's less diverse now. Mostly chinese and illegals is not diverse. and i was forced to move because of taxes. No BS here in Vegas
And soon no water in Las Vegas either. BTW, property taxes are high here and many other areas due to city corruption. But the area is very diverse and not just Chinese and "illegals." I have Hasids and Italians for neighbors, and there are lots of Russians in nearby apartment buildings.
Mordy S ... people back there kid themselves. it's no way near what it used to be. I grew up in Brooklyn, now in Vegas myself.
We just had two straight days of rain. the Earth has cycles, and we have the colorodo river we get water from. Ty come again. Im glad you have diverse neighbors in the ghetto.
They never stepped out or took a trip back lately.
I recently got back from NYC and every time I watch your video's I come back with memories. I love watching your video's. I Love NYC!
I grew up 2 blocks to the left of 33:52. In the 1990s that Emblem Health on the corner used to be Angelo's Bakery. We'd get the best cheesecake there. And the Dollar Tree at 37:00 used to be a Genovese Pharmacy
demoncleaner45 and Blockbuster Video on the corner of 25th ave 😎
Why’d the Italians move ? They don’t like living around different cultures ?
they're racist .... they youst to call themselves Cusheens.
No they don't
@@autumnfragrance7185 you're right
Back in the 50's and 60's the train line was the BMT, no F, C, B, or A trains back then, I lived on 83rd st and 19 Ave, The Eden Roc apartment, who knows what it is today, played many sports on that street.
16:01 best bubble tea ever. I used to live around the corner from here a year ago and just moved miss it so much
how times have changed, that area was 90 % italian back in early 80s
jingles jangle yes it was i cant believe what im seeing.
very very sad
LOL, moving to Staten Is. is NOT "moving up"!
trying to imagine this stretch of road/avenue minus the mrt/lrt rail train 🚆 way back when.....
They trying to push the blacks to the Bronx by raising them prices up. Bensonhurst is full of Mexicans, Arabs, Chinese, Russians, Polish, and Indians on 18th - Stillwell.
Thank you so much for posting. I lived at 86th and Bay Parkway for 24 years ans moved to Washington state in 2014. I love seeing the old neighborhood again. Wish I could shop on 86th street right now.
You're welcome! I'm glad you can see how the neighborhood looks through this video.
I grew up here, 24 hour fitness used to be Bally's gym and Jack LaLanne before that
OMG The bally's was disgusting. Smelled of sewage and there were old naked rooskis walking around the locker
Elizabeth Santos yep I remember Jack la lane...
When the bullets were flying , and the spaghetti was cooking!!!
hoh!!
I'm new to your channel and I just love your city tours, and especially your walking tours, please do more big city's tours .thank you!
Thanks. I definitely will!
I lived there for 50 years i cant believe what im seeing very sad to see what happened to a great bensonhurst.
If it was "great" you'd still be there yes/no?
I still live there i just wrote it wrong sorry
Used to live on 21st between Bath and Benson, would hate to see it now!
The neighborhood is still great. Every place undergoes changes. The Chinese merchants are great to do business with. There is everything you want between 18th Av and 25th Av.
Sunny its still a good neighborhood im still here im just sayn it changed i get along with evryone people should be like me
Wow, I saw a few whites!
Thank you, Action Kid. I believe the opening theme to The 1970s TV show “ Welcome Back Kotter” showed some scenes of 86th Street for those that want to compare the neighborhood from then to now.
yep correct
ActionKid needs to move back to NYC and do more of these walk tours..
Bensonhurst I miss this area so much I would give anything to go back I lived off west 12 and Avenue P
Carl Sagan walking these streets as a child, always thinking about his dreams and the stars
How very fortunate for him. As a nigh-underaged female, I get leered at and harassed by the latinos the second I drift off jn thought and don't walk with purpose, or at least with an unwelcoming scowl on my face.
At about 16:36 man could of lost his baby. He just kept walking. That lady was trying to get the baby to catch up to him. Finally he notices. He must have his head up his butt.. love your videos..
Scary situation!
Shame the old neighborhood is gone...
Yup. Time does change a place. It's amazing how much NYC has changed in the recent years.
The neighborhood isn't gone. Just changed.
It's toooo sad.
I can't believe it it looks like s*** now I remember growing up their living on West State Street and Avenue V getting on to 86th Street Everything Is Beautiful neighborhood was popping cars all over the place beautiful girls now look at it it's a damn shame I'm so glad I moved to Florida
@@robertgullo5752 How about me - I grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and still here. Now it's all Euros and Southerns living here. It sucks, bro.
Your camerawork does a really rich job of convert the sense of what it is like walking this street. Thanks!
You’re welcome! I’m always impressed with camera technology now
Yea, how do you do?
Do you smoke
When I was growing up it was all Italian neighborhood can't believe the change
aw i miss ny i moved away 5 yrs ago.. my grandpa used to work at pho tay ho 23:39
Awesome video! One day, this is going to be historic. The change already I'm sure is vast, but imagine in 10 years. 4k pov videos is the way to go! This is awesome.
Thanks. The thing with these types of videos is that they hold their age really well and are always relevant. In the future people will look back and see how things were “back then”
actionkid105 Thanks for making these videos. That's actually a great point. I'd be one of those people checking back to see what's changed. I'd actually like to make some for my own neighborhood but I'm not sure if a regular smartphone camera would capture the "life" of the streets like your equipment has.
I'm not trying to be negative at all but 86th Street doesn't look the same. I was expecting to see all the stores I known and loved growing up. This is nothing at all what it supposed to look like. Of this is the only 86th Street you know then yeah it will go down in history for you. For me this is so sad. My 86th Street is gone. The only things that are still original is Lenny's and Sabastians hair salon and maybe one other but that's it. It looks nothing like it used to. I wish you would have walked the real 86th Street before it was gone. 😱😰😖☹️
@@ActionKid Yes! Exactly, they hold their age really really well. The only thing I guess is the frame rate for more immersion, but besides that ageless for sure.
@@yankeechef3979 Si, this is not that Little Italia at all.
I love your videos can u do a video in the Bed-Stuy of Brooklyn? Keep up the awesome videos
Thanks! Could be a plan for a future video
I grew up pn Bay 20th St, between Cropsey Ave & Shore Pkwy during 1940s-50s. The demographics at that time were primarily Jewish & Italian. Today it seems overwhelmingly Asian. Bay 20th St intersects 86th St. at the Marshall's store, whose main entrance was once the premiere movie theater in the neighborhood, The Lowes Oriental (a "palace"). All subway trips for me began at the 18th Ave Station of the El that ran along 86th St: In those days it was called the BMT West End Line. Whether we were going to Manhattan, Coney Island or Ebbets Field to see the Dodgers, it began at 18th Ave BMT West End station.. Another movie theater on 86th St was the Benson, located near 86th St and 20th Ave. I attended Bensonhurst Junior HS located between 83rd & 84th St and 20th & 21st Ave. We were released at lunch time, so if we had a bag lunch we would go to Max's "candy store" on 86th St near 20th Ave, order an Egg Cream" and sit at a table and eat our lunch. If our parents gave us abit of money, we could also grab a knish at the Hebrew National on 86th St. We could also get a full lunch at a second floor walk-up Chinese restaurant on 86th St for 60 cents!! Pizza was always available street side. also recognized the old "Dime Savings Bank", corner of 19th Ave.
Should have Bee Gee's song, Stayin Alive in the background lol!
An interesting time to visit this same location would be in the early evening on Halloween. (4 weeks from now)
Brooklyn's China town is originally 8th ave from 39-high 50s ST
I would like to see more Brooklyn videos
Same bones, but every storefront has changed names since I was a child there in 1970-80!
I lived in this neighborhood back in the early to mid 90s. Wow has it changed
Is this hong kong ?
lol thats what im saying
RIP Petland Discounts and Payless Shoes
Hahahhah i worked in Petland
17:11 I used to pass this guy every day walking back from school 😭
Nice video, nice walk! Good memories, from this place!!! Something else: please, make a video from PC Richard&Son to Shore Road (close to Hudson River), at 86th Street Brooklyn, walking on walk side (right), because my good memories about this area. Thanks a lot...!!!

"Saturday Night Fever" intro street. 8:41 Lenny's Pizza
"Yeah, Gimme two" *chomps two slices of pizza at once*
John Travolta speech. Great movie!
Is this where they filmed the opening for Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta ? In the film didn't he live in Bensonhurst???
I never saw the movie but watched the opening on UA-cam for it after I read your comment. Wow, that definitely looks like Bensonhurst! It's changed so much.
actionkid105 Wow I’m surprised you never saw the movie before it’s one of those classic movies. You see how young John Travolta was.
actionkid105 And I think i saw the pizza place where Trovolta got a slice of pizza from in the movie. I heard it was still in business
pacluv, Yes, he lived in BH. Correction Bay Ridge neighborhood of BKLYN.
Nah that was BAY RIDGE @pacluv
Thank you, great vid, very relaxing, we (me and my wife) enjoyed the trip, as we're going in ny in 3 weeks. Cool vid
My old neighborhood....
Wow
Not like it used to be...i grew up in Bay34th Street....one of the most kids hangout of all time in the 90s... Shouts to all my peoples i miss ....from taggin...playin handball...drinkin Ol.English 40....and who can forget the Video Store 86 and Bay34th......My old crew...
Now the Chinese took over..... is crazy
Who's to blame for that?
Wow you can walk phew. Thank you for sharing. I am from Arizona and it is way different here. Not as many stores
Good video, I hope to be in NY this summer coming from Phoenix
Nice!
Wow so many n memories so many things changed but great job
Is that China or Brooklyn?
BROoKLYN ROCKS
Frankamentise It’s China Brooklyn was outsourced
Use ti be little Italy of Brooklyn now China town
australia canada san fransico california europe is becoming slowly little china
I didn't know there was a big Marshalls in the Brooklyn area.
Quite a beautiful city. Is it always this quiet? I expected it to be much noisier.
It really depends where in the city you are!
A very interesting video you made, at the corner of 86th and New Utrecht was a gas station owned by my father back in the late 50’s early 60’s. The funeral chapel Miraglia was once a Key Food supermarket. If you research the movie “the French connection” the chase scene where Gene Hackman was in high pursuit of the train. A young lady was walking across the street and forced Hackman to crash into the garbage on the corner of 86th and New Utrecht.
It’s very unfortunate this is not the Brooklyn I remember growing up as a child. My father hung out on the corner of 85th and 21st ave in front of a candy store at 8505 21st ave. It was owned by an old Jewish man Mr. Mosk. Now it’s Grotta Azzurra Pizzeria. And the GAP on 21st was a JAHN'S ICE CREAM !
So cool! Thanks for the insight!
Everything changes, and not for the best unfortunately
I’m imagining hearing the song Staying Alive
You should submit this to the New York public library or Or any other prominent atrchive.
D train to C.I....Im omw to Marlboro peez.. Memory Lane
17:35 I miss my home 😢😢
Had the greatest times here
BTW:No Housing Projects in Bensonhurst..a plus factor!
Marboro projects isn't that part of Bensonhurst?
Shore Haven, down on Cropsey Ave
If I downloaded this video would I be able to use like three seconds of it for a video I'm doing?
Holy cow!!! It's all Chinese now!! None of the stores are there any more! My feelings are hurt.
Things change
I hear the Bee Gees singing Stayin Alive and Tony (John Travolta) walking down the street eating 2 slices of pizza@thesametime!!
U should have paused at 8.40 for Saturday night fevers lennys !!
The gritty corridor that cuts underneath the L then parallels it has its toughened denizens and appropriate amount of street grime and litter. I thought any moment I would see Popeye Doyle burst into an establishment and shake down some locals...
Hey i live off of stillwell close thats always a great walk
Nice post!! As all yours!
to be honest i found out skirts of NY more interesting than the over populated areas interiors of the city / main island and Manhattan etc.
Thanks for the vid bruh 👋👍
May I ask what did you use to film this ? What kind of equipment offers this top notch tech for recording?
I used the GoPro HERO5 Black with Feiyu G5 gimbal
Fantastic !!!!
If you get a chance, you think you can create a narrated version of your tours of Bensonhurst. I know it takes a lot of time to do, so you do not have to do it if you do not want, but I thought it would be nice like the other videos you have narrated.
I could try it if I have time to revisit the area. 😃
Concrete Jungle! 🤔😳
What kind of neighborhood is this, Hong Kongolese?
Before all the Chinese People moved in there was a big influx of Russian People. The Chinese have brought a lot of new businesses in and the neighborhood is thriving.
Bensonhurst. Brooklyn. Home to more hits than Sinatra.
I saw this on 62 PCT challenge coin 😎
@Edouard Melnikov Lol🤣
I am reading all these comments about how it is like China in Bensonhurst I know I have no right speaking my mind about Bensonhurst since I didn’t grow up there only lived there for a few years but as long as the area is chill who cares who lives there
is it always this busy or was just for christmas?
It’s generally busy here
Like I said I use to live here and it will always be my home there is no where like it
Nice video ,I've never been to NYC.
Thanks
Bay Parkway 💯
Holy crap, where's all the Italians????? That Marshalls store used to be the Lowes Oriental theater. I guess freakin' oriental is right. So glad I moved out in 1988.
Why don't you do a walking tour of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn???????? You could show Bliss Park (Owls Head), Shore Road, the Gingerbread house, Verrazano bridge, John Paul Jones Park and the house from the TV show Blue Bloods.
Yep... I remember seeing The Godfather at the Loew's Oriental. It was such a great theater with a huge screen and a real two-tiered balcony. It's a shame to see that it became a Marshalls. At least Pizza Den is still on 18th Ave, but gone are John's Deli and Castellano's Pork Store (best hot Italian sausage in Bensonhurst).
Thanks Tony, it's been over thirty years since my last visit to Bensonhurst. I recall a bowling alley around the corner from the Oriental. Also the Benson theater on 20th ave (??) and the Deluxe on Cropsey ave (??). A nice SAFE place to walk any time of day or night in the 1970's. Used to date a chick on Bay 35th in 1970.
Yeah, there was the bowling alley on 18th Ave, between Benson & 86th St. If I recall correctly, it was "Three Star Lanes". After seeing a movie at the Oriental Theater, we'd walk up 86th to Jahn's for a cheeseburger. Don't remember if Jahn's was on the corner of 20th or 21st Ave. You're absolutely right; it was a safe place to walk any time. You'd never give it a second thought. Great times. (Also... the Deluxe was on Bath Ave. :-)
Oops! My bad. Forgot where the Deluxe was, alzheimer's??? Dyker Hgts. and Bay Ridge were mostly my stompin' grounds. There was a Jahn's (or was it Hinche's) on 5th between 85th and 86th streets (I think) or was it 69th and 5th ave?? We'd go there after a show at the RKO Dyker or the Alpine. I had a guy who had a guy that scored some great weed at Three Star Lanes in the old days. We would split a kilo (2.2lbs) between 5 or 6 guys. No dealing for me, just smokin'. Always liked to "lock in" a good supply for the holidays. Long time ago Tony, I'm getting near 70 now. Great times indeed.
Yes! It was Hinsch's on 5th Ave off 86th. Used to go there for a cheeseburger and an ice cream soda (or, an egg cream) after bowling at Leemark Lanes. Going even further back, I remember my mother dragging me into Woolworth on the corner of 5th & 86th. Used to simply call it the "five and dime" back then. As a kid, I used to think their lunch counter, with the grilled cheese and french fries, was the finest dining anywhere. I'm getting up there too - as you can probably tell.
To everyone complaining, immigration and evolution changes cities and neighbourhoods, get over it.
Gone with the wind
7:00 Georgian song "Chemo Tbilis qalaqo" its a Brooklyn :D
Thank You for letting us know!
Not the brooklyn I grew up in. Not even close.
I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
Why?
What year did all those Chinese people start to invade Bensonhurst?
I think the population of Bensonhurst really started to transform in the 1990s.
Early to mid 2000s
Its happening all around the world even in europe there are millions of chinese living there becoming every year more and more
AKP Star China should just be wiped off the earth end of.
Don’t use the word invade
I just started watching your videos and suscribed. Please do a tour of Riverdale The Bronx. The mansions and apartments are amazing. Most have Hudson River views. Thank you.

well I'm so happu you've posted those videos from NYC, brought back so great memories... One quick question, are you planning to go to Ditmas Avenue area? I used to spend some time over there and I would be gratefull for some walk video from that place ;)
I could try but it’s challenging for me to do videos of Southern Brooklyn since it’s inconvenient for me to go there.
Belo video!
Fuckin' AWESOME!
You keep walking up 86th street...Walk 18th Avenue PLEASE!
I amazed ...
What did you use to film this so steadily?
I used the Feiyu G5 gimbal. The link is in the video description.
yea how do you miss a major famous landmark like Lenny's Pizza and not stop to go in? Saturday Night Fever and all....
I did go in there later! ua-cam.com/video/nAn9Y6aKesY/v-deo.html
How things changed
DUDE your sure this is N.Y america. and not china? there is a lot of pharmacies there. andd america say they have a drug problem. LOL

I'm looking at some really nice apts here on CL. I watched this to try and convince myself but Bhurst is still boring and out of the way.I haven't seen one cougar, skater, or any pretty ladies.😺😹🤣
At Least it's NOT a`Ghetto' like some Brooklyn`hoods!,My old Neighborhood turned into one when Housing Projects opened in`50's;& Crime Skyrocketed..& We hadda Move!
Brooklyn rulz, beaches!
I thought this place was in mainland China
