It’s a new year with new gear, and we have the newest addition to the DX series of DAPs from iBasso, the DX240. Wait, what? Didn’t they already release the DX300? No, it’s not a typo folks, here it is….the DX240. Which was released…after…the DX300. Math is hard sometimes, but the only numbers that matter here are the specs under the hood of the device. Spoiler alert: they don’t disappoint. The DX300 remains their flagship player, but the DX240 actually closes the gap on performance while widening it with the price point. There’s a lot to cover here from the device itself to the swappable AMP cards, so let’s get started.

Please excuse my ignorance. I have an LG V40 that no longer works on AT&T so I was forced to buy a new cell phone. I bought a Galaxy S22 Ultra that sounds awful compared to the LG V40. Are these DAP streaming from TIDAL like I did on my LG V40? Do I need a second phone line for one of these players? I'm a total noob that needs very basic intro to DAPs questions answered. Can some answer or direct me to a noobie video?

@@moon-audio A little update. I originally tried a cheap dongle from my phone to the aux input of my truck. Sounded very bad. Then I bought a Dragon Tail to connect a Dragonfly Red I was using on my PC. Big improvement but not as good as my LG V40. I'm I correct that I also need to download an app called USB something or other? I'm afraid a ~$1K DAP is going to be my final destination. Thank you for the help and advice.
You mention it's a better "value" to the 300, but you never said any price of any of the devices you mentioned in the video. I would think that would be something you would do to show the "value".
Hi Paul, sorry about that - the DX240 is currently $949 while the DX300 is $1,249. Aside from the bigger screen on the DX300, the DX240 checks a lot of the same boxes for $300 less. Upcoming daft question warning: Can a DAP output video? If I want to stream video to my projector & hifi (Arcam Alpha 5 amp & Lynn Sekrit speakers) and want better audio than my laptop (which is impressively poor), what type of device should I look at? I know there's a clue in the name - Digital Audio Player! - but it's running Android so should be able to run video apps?
Most DAPs can play video on the DAP itself. They aren't really setup to output video though, so you could use the DAP in USB DAC mode connected to your computer/smartphone when streaming video to your projector. Another option would be to look into a portable DAC/Amp like the Chord Mojo 2 or the IFi Gryphon or even the A&K HC3 to boost the audio quality while still streaming the video out of your laptop. @@moon-audio That's really helpful thanks. I ended up with a Dragonfly Cobalt DAC and whilst it's not without problems - mainly not being true plug n' play and the Dragontail doesn't work/like my USB C port or phone, it's done the job very nicely.

Yes, you can access streaming services like Tidal and Qobuz on this DAP. 🙂

Most DAPs I've seen rarely offered "Newest to Oldest" file structure beside Playlist, Artist, Genre or All Music.
Sony NWA105 got it, but the battery life on that device is horrible.
Most DAPs review i've seen never really talk about file structure.
Too bad you can't get the DAP with card you want. Wasting a lot of $$$.
