Underrated AF! I loved this movie growing up. Thank you James for checking this one out 😊
Agreed
Completely this movie is amazing
That narration is next level storytelling though. "I wanna tell you about the time i almost died" is a magic trick principle of diversion that allows the author to hide in plain sight the second, really more captivating yet subtle sentence: " If i go back to the beginning it will take forever...let me start somewhere, anywhere."
“I wanna tell you about the time I almost died.”
I absolutely love this movie, it’s creepy and so well crafted. Denzel is awesome as always.
Such a great line. I also like "If I go back to the beginning it'll take forever"
@@johngreen6521 Somewhere ... anywhere ... Reese
I always believed it was Hobbes inside the cat @ the end & not Azazel. The Vision was clear & not predator looking like Azazel's Vision
It's one of those movies.
Overlooked and underrated little gem.
The "touching chase" scene is one unique and memorable scene.
A underrated Denzel Washington film.
Facts
Damn good movie. Does anyone remember Virtuosity?
John Goodman too. He's great in this.
I remember watching this as a kid. This and the bone collector freaked me out. My first Denzel movie was Glory. After that it was Fallen. Core memories right there, with my big cousin.
@@tarnished3133 virtuosity is great and seems to be totally forgotten. There were some great Sci-Fi movies around that time that have been forgotten. Virtuosity, Looper and Repo-men are all great, but forgotten.
Saw this in the theaters without knowing anything about it. I looked at everybody suspiciously for a week after that. 😭
I could never hear that song the same way. "Tiiiiiiime, is on my siiiide... Yes it is!"
Having that loose a grip on reality isn’t something to be proud of or boast about
Considering how some people in our society are behaving today, it wouldn't be surprising to discover that some entity had invaded them; I mean, as Denzel said in the film "look around some time" and tell me you haven't observed humans indulging in some very bizarre behaviors as of late. 😳
This is one of my favourite Denzel movies: I absolutely love the ending, both with how they tie it in with the misleading intro, and with how it lets you think that Hobbes found the way to finally defeat the demon, only for you to realize that he had the right idea, but he didn't understand the full extent of Azazel's abilities.
Such an underappreciated, overlooked flim, it's a gem in the rough imo.
yup one of my fav Denzel movies
I thought you were gonna say "A diamond in the rough..." Lol
@@StandUpComedyFan28m lol, I probably shoulda, but I was tired 😁
Yes, finally someone who reacts to this movie. Thanks James!
I enjoy whistling 'Time is on my side' in a crowd, seeing if anybody looks around...
Bonus points if you do that while walking past Denzel Washington.
This movie and The Bone Collector are so underated it hurts! Thank you for watching and reviewing.
both movies are actually rated pretty good. no one talks about them because they are 25 year old movies. Hence why reaction channels are a thing now a days - younger generations watching older movies. Theres nothing underrated about these movies
Don't forget "Out of Time" another rarely remembered Denzel film.
This has always been one of my Favorite Denzel flicks . Never understood why it was so under appreciated . Unique premise , well written , solid cast . Thanks for this .
Elias Koteas playing the possesed inmate was great!! Underatted actor and great movie.
Casey Jones!
Love this film. Such a unique villain, and that song man...
If there is one thing I learned from this movie its that rolling stone song. Its pretty much been one of my ways of mocking someone when I accomplish something that seems impossible to them and yet I simply mock them by singing that song then asking why they are so surprised. That is what makes the villain in this movie so awesome. The more the hero thinks he is winning the more he is just losing instead. His friends are dead. His family is wrecked. His career is over. Then the last thing he does is try to commit suicide to achieve victory but in the end its a wasted effort because he didn't account for one little tiny variable that was overlooked. Time in this case was on his side. Not the hero's side. The villain's side. All he had to do was wait.
I would suggest the film Frailty, great filmmaking and has a twist ending 😮
My favorite part of this movie is how much of a little smart ass the demon is lol
This is a really great underrated movie. It has some amazing scenes in it. The scene where the demon is traveling from person to person chasing him always freaks me out.
When I saw this movie I thought that the ending made this movie. It's a good movie but the ending make's it a legend.
"Let me tell you about the time I almost died" takes on a whole new meaning after the ending.
I really enjoy Fallen. Great cast, fun premise, well written. What's not to like?
Gregory Hoblit is an underrated director, he also did Primal Fear and Frequency. There's already reaction to former so I'd recommend the latter, it's a great little movie and a pretty cool mix of genres (sci-fi, thriller, drama).
He’s underrated cause his name sounds like hobbit 🤣
I love Frequency
Two more Denzel movies that I like from the same era as this is The Bone Collector and Out of Time, I really enjoyed this period in his acting career, he did a lot of really fun crime thrillers, they where not necessarily the biggest blockbusters or any thing, but smaller, easy to like movies.
Good times.
I have to say, it's one of those movies you're going to remember
I love this movie. I waited the whole time to see you react to the last line but you didn't include it. 😄 I just love that call back to the very first line in the film that most viewers wouldn't even remember by the end.
"Time is on my side" that song with the creepy undertone has never left me since childhood - this movie has some great moments ✨
Finally! I've been voting for this on every Patreon poll its been on lol. Loved it as a teen in 98 and still do. I recommend it any chance I get to/remember to haha. Thank you as always 🙏
Definitely an underrated banger with Denzel. This was a wild ride!

Have a great day!
This is a great pick James! Thanks for watching this one. My favorite John Goodman performance is in Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out the Dead, starring Nicolas Cage. Thanks again for these great reactions.
The first few lines by Denzel in VO, give away the twist. No, I didn't realize it until this, my second watch.
An idea for another focus. Films based on improv like Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind.
Told you this one was a sleeper. One of Denzel's best. What a villain!
There goes another movie I never heard about in my list because you reacted to it.
Btw you should really give Shot Caller a shot. Someone else in your Barry reaction like a month ago recommended it and it was really good.
You should check out Virtuosity, a movie with Denzel and Russel Crowe. I won't spoil anything other than it oozes with mid 90s action movies.
Out of all the movies I've seen, this is one of those few that has stuck with me. I love it. It's sooo good! And the cast. Unbelievable atmosphere and subtlety acting all around.
IMO one of Denzel's best movies, I love the mixing of detective and supernatural. Once you realize who the real killer is, you get that sinking feeling, how to stop it?
The ending is excellent, not fairy-tale or feel-good, but displaying the fact life ain't fair. Satisfying. I find this similar to the ending of The Mist.
this movie is such a time capsule to me. it was on all the time on TNT in the early 2000s when TNT was trying to be known as the drama channel("TNT we know drama" was a commercial/slogan back in the day)
I'm so glad I grew up watching this movie as often as I did - your edits cut out so much of the 'mysterious' dialogue ! I've never been much for religiosity, but I've always been fascinated by the way this story unfolds. Great choice. (Edit: Funny one of the few other movies w heavy religious undertones I thoroughly enjoy is Book of Eli. Denzel is so compelling.)
I swear I always have to scream about this movie from the rooftops! So underrated and honestly spooked me for a while 😂
The misdirection in the beginning where you *think* it's Denzel talking...*Chef's kiss*
An underrated sleeper that deserves a sequel. Bring Denzel back and call it Fallen II: Risen.
Finally!! I think I’ve voted for this one one every poll you’ve had it on. SO GOOD!!!
James you are picking gems....GEMS. I remember watching this back in the day and wondering why no one else was talking about this movie and its concept. Maybe because our hero dies, not you typcial Hollywood feel good film but something that would be at home in todays type of cinema. Ahead of its time?
Great ending I thought. Check mate? Or maybe just check :)
I just watched Man on Fire again the other day, one of my favourites of all time. Its Taken before Taken. "I'm gonna kill them all" F N CHILLS
One thing that makes the script good is how it is a mystery, but only for the main character, not the audience. Other movies, like Knives Out, the mystery is for the audience to figure out during a flurry of misdirection made by way too many actors to confuse you. It’s a fun ride, but once you know what happened, rewatching it greatly reduces the enjoyment.
Fallen is the opposite. The audience is kind of let in on the secret right away. It’s just a mystery for the main character so the audience can spend their time enjoying the main characters journey than trying to figure it out themselves.
I adore the camera work in this one, such a unique movie! Looking forward to your thoughts on it♥️🍿
I love this movie. One that I watch every October.
This was legitimately the first movie that gave me nightmares, I had a dream after watching this movie that me and my bro were hunting that demon and it possessed me. Woke up when my bro realized and had to kill me :O
Please do Man on Fire as soon as possible. I know you’ll be blown away by the style and the overall movie
What a film
@@phudoraps3374 I thought for sure he would have gotten to it by now after his last Denzel movie when I suggested it and got over 200 likes. I don’t know how his polling works on the P but I would’ve thought someone else would’ve suggested on there
This is probably my favorite Denzel movie. It is one of my all time favorites of all movies. I have not watched it years. I have been waiting probably 5 years for someone to react to it, glad you finally did. I love one of a kind movies like this.
Legend of Billie Jean
Johnny Dangerously
I IMMEDIATELY clicked! I hate that it's so criminally underrated.
He did tell you in the beginning, this was the story of how he ALMOST died.
"Tiiiiime is on my side... yes it is!" ... we sang this song for years after we first saw this movie. It's a very fitting song to the Azazel's being... time is always on its side.
Thank you. I remember asking for this forever ago. Such a good movie.
When I was little kid I once accidentally knocked a VHS tape off of my mother and step-father's television in their bedroom. I picked it up off the floor and the movie was Fallen. Still haven't seen the movie, but I'll never forget that.
I love the opening hints "If I started all the way back at the beginning, it would take too long."
This is one of the top 5 most underrated movies of all time. I'm so glad that you're getting the chance to experience it.
2nd comment… you ever wonder why The Book Of Eli opens with Denzel killing a cat…. Fallen is why.
I loooooved this movie when it came out. I think I went to see it in theatres 2-3 times.
Seing Denzel in older movies always make me think the same thing..."Has Denzel ever looked young?!" it's like he was born in a 40's something body...and also THE CAT?!
Very few reactions to this movie on UA-cam. Thats why you are one of the goat reactors James. Keep up the good work
Excellent film!! ❤ Very underrated!! Great reaction!
I haven't even watched this yet but OMG YEEEEEEESSSSS! I saw this movie when I was like 12 and it stuck with me enough I tracked it down when I was older and fell in love with it.
It's such a good movie, I hope you like it.
"Time is on my side. Yes it is!" 👀
Love this movie!
John Goodman doing a Mick Jagger impression followed shortly by Sympathy For The Devil really put a nice bookend on this movie.
Great movie. Underappreciated
An excellent, and quite under-recognized movie. I probably haven't seen this movie in 20 years, but it's a great ride. Good to see someone react to it.
I remember having this on DVD at some point. Great movie!
This is one of my favorites, longtime fan. Glad to see it reviewed
Thank you! This movie is so underrated and few people know about it. I saw it way back and loved it. :)
Hi James, my favourite supernatural movies dealing with the devil and demons "Prophecy 1995", "Constantine 2005"
i always mention this movie in reactors comments since none had done it yet. this is a lovely surprise.
An Underrated Mystery Thriller! So good. With one of the best endings of all time!
One of me and my friends favorite movies at the time. Denzel and John were both great and the story was top notch.
one of my favorite films. and the ending was a shocker. so well acted and written.
I love this movie so much. I was a kid when i first saw it and it was effectively one of the 1st "adult" movies i understood and could enjoy.
Soon as I saw this pop up I was like YES. And then immediately started singing... Tiiiiiiime is on my side..... yes it is!!!
I would argue that was the only plausible ending the film could have had. This is based off of what Azazel said, “Can you imagine being alive for thousands of years and realize you’re going to die because some self righteous human thought that he was going to save the world”. He’s thousands of years old and a demon. Hobbs is just a man. You don’t survive that long and get beaten that easily.
I love this movie. So glad to see you watch it. It doesn't get nearly the attention that it should.
Such a good movie
I remember this movie! I'm surprised no one talks about it much. If you like this type of subject matter, you might wanna try The Ninth Gate. It's got Depp in it and it was directed by Polanski. It's not some masterpiece or anything but it's still good and it's got that occult detective story thing going on.
Oh my! I didn't expect anyone reacting to this movie! I love it to bits! So happy you've done this vid.
Haven't seen this in ages, fun to watch again
Some movies, if you weren’t there, you missed it… This movie doesn’t have commercially classic appeal… But it’s so damn engaging and entertaining… gives light silence of the lamb vibes.
I really like going back to the opening and realizing how much the narrator does not sound like denzel's character
Just rewatched this last week… good flick
I have no idea how true this is, but apparently Denzel made this film because he was pissed at himself for not taking a role in the film Seven (he was supposed to play the Brad Pitt part). At the end of the day we are the winners, we got 2 great films out of it.
Elias Koteas is in another religious supernatural horror - The Prophecy (1995) with Christopher Walken.
There's a couple of other good religious horrors from the 90s, like Devil's Advocate (with Keanu and Pacino), End of Days (Arnie and Gabriel Byrne) and so on.
Constantine (Keanu) and Legion (Paul Bettany) follow suit in the 90's.
This is a cool movie. Unfortunately largely overlooked.. Great cast. Washington is such a charismatic actor
dopeeeeee i voted for this on the poll wasn't sure it would win. Love this movie
Yusss. This is one of my favorite movies.
This is a sleeper favorite of mine. I don't think about it as much as some of my other favorites, but whenever I remember it, I have an "Oh, yeah!" moment.
"What goes around really goes around."
The year 2020 in a nutshell.
Heres a forgotten gem you might like. Things to do in denver when you’re dead
Fallen is a really amazing movie. I still remember the first time I watched this on Cable and the surprising plot twist.
Back then when this movie came out it was rare to see endings like this one.
Thanks for doing this film reaction James vs Cinema. 😀
I actually just re-watched this like a few weeks ago
I was 15 when this came out. First time I noticed Denzel. This was also one of the first movies I ever bought on DVD when I switched from VHS. Love this movie.
This movie really shook me when I first saw it.
One of my favorite endings
I love this movie! I saw it with 2 other people in the theater on a Friday afternoon. I’d relive those hours, given a chance.
Love this movie. So good and that ending was unexpected but perfect.
a horror movie, with a demon, with no special effects. Very good horror movie. Demon possess one person touching another. Smart idea for making a movie
This fucked me up so much as a kid, I had convinced myself this was a nightmare I had had ☠️
Wow, haven’t thought of this movie in probably decades. Frailty is another good underrated one that kind of fits this genre.
IMO, the only people offended by this ending haven’t seen the ending of The Mist. Now THAT’S a controversial piece of work.
Saw this in the theaters this was great. Got me listening to The Rolling Stones. One of the rare great bad endings.
yes this movie is so under rated glad you finally diving in cheers 🍻
This movie is a forgotten gem of thriller and horror, realy unique
