Darling Danny !! I knew nothing about Alaskan Malamutes until I started watching your videos. I was mesmerized by Danny's size and beauty. At first I thought he was a wolf (I love wolves) and was surprised to know he is gorgeous and loving domesticated dog. I fight for animal rights and think it's wonderful when people, like yourself, educate others on how to be gentle and take care of our elderly fur babies. Thank you again for your videos.
Yessss. Mine also found out how to open doors by watching us. When people come over and I let her out then shut the door, they assume I'm just leaving her there but she lets herself in and then they laugh and tell me it's cool I trained her to do that. I didn't! She saw me doing it and she worked out how doors work by herself. She also is a greedy trickster. I will feed her at her usual times and then when my brother is here, she will act as if she has not been fed so she gets fed again! Now we have to tell eachother that she has had her dinner.
My boy Kodiak figured out all the doors the moment he was big enough, I haven't taught him to close any, but he can open doors with handles like yours as well as glass sliding doors and even bi-fold doors, he has even figured out how to open a gate with a swing over latch, we have to lock everything to keep him in, lol.
Hello Danny Direwolf I am biggest Fan of yours and I am new Subscribers, I lie watching with your mommy who's very young and beautiful I glad your mommy Very kind taking care of and very Patient for giving nice food and Your daddy is wonderful man trying to help you going to park With limousine wagon which fans Give you, Danny enjoyed your Wagon you smell fresh air outside You have exercise everyday with Wangon so big dog are not going To bit you my grandma watch your Video everyweeks and my grandma is very happy and smiling once he saw you she start praying Rosary so you get better and better for your good health she say Wants hug you and kiss you and Touch your nice further is nice Like you are in Alaska husky dog Okay Danny I see you soon in Another video
My boy is a year and a half hand hesby from from lazy, he'd be out all day if that were possible. He hardly ever sleeps during the day ESP when we are home, his Doberman brother however does like to sleep a lot! He is very intelligent and thrives us telling him hes a good boy. I just love my boys!! :-) I just want more!!!
Dogs are the best! We had a newfoundland that was super energetic. He wouldn't stop running no matter how tired he was. We had to make sure he didn't over tire himself. All the malamutes I've met have been really lazy. I'm sure one day I'll meet an energetic one like yours.
All the mals I've come across (or the owners should I say) always say to me I can't believe how you allow your dog off the lead. My shadow is fabulous off lead and is very obedient, maybe it's because we are just firm, but fair! Just frustrating when other dog owners pike their dogs up when they walk past ours and in all fairness they are not perfect, but for their age both being 1 they are awesome! Would love shadow to be as big as yours though!!! Just beautiful! :-) xx
A lot of other people have told me that mals are bad off lead but Danny is fine! He's not perfect but that's just his independent malamute nature. I think as long as they know who's boss they will listen to you. People also have this idea that because they look like wolves they are dangerous. Nope.. Danny is the biggest sweetheart teddy bear. Yup, I've seen so many owners pick up their dogs around Danny when he walks past and guess what? Their dogs are the naughty ones barking at him! Danny doesn't even pay them any attention lol
I'm wanting to get a st Bernard next, just love big dogs, which is great when I'm only 5ft tall! Ha ha I might just get a small dog to prove to people how gentle they are!! What I have been doing on recent lead walks is when a small dog start having a dog and you see their owners faces nervous looking at ours - I just tell my boys they are not going to hurt you and the dogs owners change their behaviour ESP after I tell them how often they get bitten by small dogs! Like yours mine never react!
Hello! Am One of your new subcribers and i have just gotten two malamutes, a boy and a girl.. is it okay for them to just lay on the floor(tiled floor)? Before i will invest on big beds for them... thank u in advance for your reply...
My beloved female (Sable) loved water. They have web feet for swimming. This gal doesn't work her dogs like she should. I had a team of ten, worked them and myself to exertion.
ah yeah about the fact that malamutes are lazy, a lot of my dog friends here have a malamute, and they said malamutes are really lazy compared to the active husky and the strongwilled samoyed. and the fact that they like to clean their bodies is new to me, it's a really cute trait! oh and what I love about owning one of arctic dog breeds, is that they have none - very little dog odor compared to the other dog breeds
Yeah I filmed a day in Danny's life for a subscriber because it was requested and he slept most of the day! Haha. I also like that the artic dog breeds don't smell as much :3
My family has an elderly small dog (about 20lbs), and a 5 month old puppy (rottweiler German shepherd mix). We know someone who's giving away a malamute (due to housing situation changes and a family death). My dad (who is usually very against the idea of adding any animals to our home), is interested in getting this dog. What should I do? It's an adorable gentle dog, but I'm really unsure about adding a third dog to our home. (Puppy is full of energy and barks and nips a lot, older dog is timid and shy but very gentle loving once she's used to people). Would another dog fit into our home (this is a family debate at the moment).
It really depends on the dogs. Maybe have them meet in a park so you can see how they get along. 3 dogs is difficult though. Two always tend to pick on one. But who knows? Get them to meet and see how they are together. If they are ok in the park try getting them to meet at home.
I have heard that the Malamutes are not so nervous (meaning speed) in activity as the Syberians but the can "work" heavier charges on longer distance. Am i wrong ?
Malamutes usually pull the heavier sleds for shorter distances because they are stronger than huskies but don't have as much stamina so they can't run for as long. The huskies will pull the lighter sleds for longer because they have more energy.
Hey :) I too am a proud owner of an Alaskan Malamute. His name is Iron and he is almost 1 year old :) I was just wondering if you could give me some advice on how I can teach him to pull things... We have tried to have him pull just very light things, because I don't want him to have any problems with his legs, but every time he feels that his harness is pulling him back he stops in one place and turns around xD He is so funny when he does that :) I really wish I could train him to pull. Thank you in advance :)
Haha sounds like a typical Malamute! They can be very stubborn. You could try leading him with his favourite treat. Hold it in front of him while he is in the harness and get him to walk forward. Say a command like "Go" when you do it. After a while, don't have the treat anymore and just use the word "Go" or whatever word you choose. Hope that helps. And give him lots of pats and praise when he goes forward.
Danny Direwolf Thank you very much :) I will try to do that, but I think it will not be this winter, because he is a little bit sick and had some problems with walking and getting up from a sitting position just a couple of weeks ago :( But thank you again! :)
Danny Direwolf At first he was just wobbling a bit and we thought it was nothing serious, but I nagged my father to take him to the vet and it turned that the muscles on his legs ware rapidly cramping and causing him to feel pain, when there was nothing to cause it... It was just that his muscles ware a little overworked and we found a sprain on his right foot xD We figured out that it may be there from him hitting his foot on something. :) The vet gave us some medication and he is now running around in the snow, like the energetic puppy he is xD A sneezing puppy that is :) He caught a cold a few days ago, when he ran out socking wet from a bath xD
I wonder about laziness and jsut being so darn hot inside all that fur. Any exercise, at least indoors or on a sunny day will heat that guy up. So, what's the best thing to do with a dog with that much fur being inside with people keeping the heater on around 69 degrees?
Some of what you are saying is quite inconsistent with my personal experience with Malamutes as well as most information available and accounts of others who have experience with Malamutes. Malamutes do enjoy a good bit of sleep time, but the notion that they are lazy seems quite inaccurate. Personally I have no experience sledging loads with any dog, so I can only comment from information and the accounts other Malamute owners have shared. Though not as fast as a Husky, one consistently stated trait is that they have incredible stamina. They have been trained for perhaps several hundred years to get on with the job, and tough it through to the end. When the work is done, the routine of getting back to pulling a while longer without a load has been used to make certain they don't get the wrong idea that the destination dictates when they perceive the work has ended. Their stubborn, manipulative tendencies make it imperative that they perceive that the work is over when they are told so. They have no problem continuing on, but they shouldn't be allowed to dictate quitting time. Of course larger malamutes have less stamina, and aren't well suited for this type of work. The Malamute that I owned quite some years ago (Oxford), was poorly trained when I rescued him at around 2.5 years old. As a result, his extremely independent Malamute nature developed more than his discipline and obedience. Malamutes are extremely smart, and can be stubborn and manipulative. Although he loved people and demanded attention for days and weeks, occasionally he would escape and roam. I would receive calls from friends who had spotted him a fair distance from where we lived, usually within a several mile radius. I realized that this was not an accurate view of the extent to which he roamed, but more of a reflection that the friends calling me spotted him in that radius because that is where THEY lived. I realized that my perspective was wrong when he showed up at a friend's house 12 miles away. He had visited that home only once or twice. This is enough to convince me that all the information about energy, playfulness, and even stamina is the correct, reliable information. If your Malamute is constantly lazy, that is noted as an undesirable trait which deviates from the standard. Regardless, that is considered from the show dog perspective, but even for non-show dogs, this is considered as aberrant behavior for the breed. That doesn't mean that he's not a wonderful Malamute, nor does it mean he's any less of a Malamute.
No, he's really really lazy. But he does go to the dog park or dog day care sometimes. He doesn't run around. Just lumbers slowly lol And he grew up in apartments so he's used to small spaces.
I can't tell if my mallamute is smart or so stupid he's smart he lernt to open a door but he walks into things and has no clue what were telling him he's special. .......lol
that's so cute how he opens and closes the door

Yes!! Danny does the food thing too! He will pretend that he was never fed and give you "hungry face"

Are you sure malamutes "don't like water"? I just saw a video of a malamute swimming in a pool and appearing to love it.
Most don't like water but some do. It depends on the Malalmute.
Are all AMs this big?? u seem to have one of the bigger among AM youtubers.
What a gorgeous and big mal! How much does he weigh?
He's 53 kilos
I thought that he has more. Still, majestic creature! I've just subscribed!
They are also usually not that big.

I hope he feels better soon! If you haven't already get him checked at the vet. Sometimes the breed can have hip problems.

No, he's really really lazy. But he does go to the dog park or dog day care sometimes. He doesn't run around. Just lumbers slowly lol And he grew up in apartments so he's used to small spaces.
Your dog forgot how to dog ... :)
Haha yeah, he's like a giant cat.
big
I can't tell if my mallamute is smart or so stupid he's smart he lernt to open a door but he walks into things and has no clue what were telling him he's special. .......lol
