  • Vladimir Putin has cited NATO enlargement as one of the reasons for Russia's attack on Ukraine.
But what if Ukraine was part of NATO? Would Russia have attacked a member of the Alliance? Would we have a NATO Russia war instead of a Russia vs Ukraine war?
Today we try to answer these and other questions, such as the perspective of Ukraine’s membership in NATO and when will Ukraine join NATO, or what are the lessons for Ukraine from other Eastern European countries that joined the Alliance.

as you increase the number of 'insured' parties, there eventually comes a point where you will experience diminishing returns , i.e., each party will average less coverag/benefit whether that be monetary compensation or military protection....it's simple math no matter how you want to spin it...

No, the benefits are established by policy in the contract between states of the alliance. In opposing an aggressor who invades one state, the larger the alliance’s resources, the better.

The referendum is not recognized by most countries, mainly due to the presence of Russian forces. Thirteen members of the United Nations Security Council voted in favor of a resolution declaring the referendum invalid, but Russia vetoed it and China abstained. A United Nations General Assembly resolution was later adopted, by a vote of 100 in favor vs. 11 against with 58 abstentions, which declared the referendum invalid and affirmed Ukraine's territorial integrity.

@@Blanka1100 Ukraine had to deal with a lot of struggles because of Russia's infiltration and manipulation. Russia tried to get Yanukovych elected in 2004, and that fraud triggered the Orange Revolution. After 2004, Russia began a campaign to create separatist movements in Donbas and cranked up the propaganda targeted at those areas. After Russia got Yanukovich elected in 2010, Russia controlled Ukraine. In 2014, Yanukovych fled to Russia because he didn't want to face charges of corruption and treason, he was impeached by the parliament in absentia.
