First, Awesome Idea and implementation on your part Bernie, I commend anyone that is willing to sacrifice their time, resources and experience/knowledge to make this sport better/safer/more fun than it already is. Judson, the same goes for you, for being the labrat LOL, for being open enough to try these out despite a potential risk any part of the testing may have. All in all, MAD props to you both for doing this. I'm quite impressed with the performance of the product and good fair assessment done by the method of testing, even if it was 'informal' and not 'scientific, it easily showed clear real-world results. Thank you both, Judson and Bernie.

Judson didn’t mention anything about flow disturbances and trust reduction. Have you notice anything in your testing?
I 3D print some myself. But much smaller and did notice I slight trust reduction. I am curious to know about yours.

The fact that you gained efficiency with the lower rpm would be enough for me these things are gunna be a win win.
This is pretty strange about: where actually did this efficiency come from? Lower angle of incidence for the main prop at full throttle?

Great work. I would suggest resin and fiberglass coating, sanding and painting. PLA breaks down really quickly in UV.

Seems like you could keep adjusting the angle until you get them set exactly how you want them so the torque curve is even throughout the RPM range. Then mark the setting for reassembly. Great video.
I dream of doing that one day. I texted with that guy you had on (forgot his name) and I have watched many of his videos too. Its a money thing for me right now. Tucker seems like he might start a one day course which would help financially. staying some place for a week or ten days costs a lot. Its not just the price of the school itself.
I literally just finished putting 3d printed torque compensation on my Nirvana. Increases fuel efficiency and gets the fins away from the prop compared to the Nirvana style fins.

@@MarkHuneycutt Fun fact... @sidebernie based his design from my Nirvana fins😆. He made a lot of changes to adapt it to Macfly tho.

Cool work Bernie! The next iteration could be spring-loaded like leading edge flaps on an airplane so that they can dynamically adjust in flight? Maybe have the springs be tension-able for performance parameter choices, ie cruise vs aerobatic. Neat concept, yer on to something here.

That's pretty cool Judson. I haven't flown paramotor yet, and am having a lot of fun with free-flight, but I am paramotor curious. I have a frame, and an electric motor that should produce about 33 hp in theory at full throttle. I'm pretty heavy at just under 200 lbs in just shorts so dynamic torque compensation may not be necessary. It is interesting doing the research though. thanks.
Miro had a good idea to use aerodynamic torque compensation on a paramotor. I always wondered if he got the idea from how a turbojet engine uses internal fixed stater blades to counteract torque.

we need far more experts, not the manufacturers to design better wings to compete with the major manufacturers. there testing and the way they go about things have a lot to be desired. thinking outside the known box.
The problem with paramotor manufacturing is volume. You will spend thousands and thousands of dollars and hour and hours of testing and developing a product that MAYBE less than 1,000 people will buy globally (IF it’s a universal product that any pilot can use) and most people will complain that the price is too high for what it is. This is why start up paramotor manufacturers come and go so often.
Why don’t you sport the Back Country toggles ?

Yes, with the moster… at altitude, in may.
It may have to do with how light a pilot is, im 200+ pounds and larger wing so I don't notice it torque at all on full power climb, and weight shift will turn me easy both directions not sure at full power though
Captions arent perfect, but i love the vibe. hard to catch evert error. also missed a color grade on the 360 clip oopsy. enjoy
cheers for this test judson. i am working on a EPPG for a while now and i see there is almost zero torque when we test them. even without fins.
do you have any idea why gasoline units are so much more effected by that? maybe the inertia from clutch/flywheel or any other non propeller related parts make it worse?
i made the same torque fins here with my 3D printer and spend alot time for the design just to find out we dont need them AT ALL for an electric PPG. but i am wondering why that is.

I am gonna have to disagree with you on the Captions, they are distracting AF for me and are not needed as you speak clearly and loudly. When Wes Anderson puts all his dialogue in a "wes anderson style font" in his movies, then and only than can you do it. What is the point of having great video if you make the viewer focus on the text, the brain can't take both in equally at the same time. Wes wouldn't do it, neither should you. I have to force myself NOT to look at the lower third of the screen or else my brain goes right to the text. Maybe I am old and you kids today are wired differently but I think others would agree with me. BTW I feel you are a film maker (you understand balance and shot composition plus great editing better than most) who happens to fly a paramotor and I would not spend the time to comment like this for a youtuber who's work I didn't like and respect.

Cool. We need more people willing to build more props. Not so much for more power, but how to get them more quiet. Future is electric, so if we can cut down the noise from props paired with electric motors, these things would be whisper quiet.
Very cool! I’m a paraglider pilot, pretty much only mountain XC flying, but I’m planning on getting a motor just to motor around my home after work during the week, I can only paraglide on the weekends, and I definitely don’t see paramotoring taking over my love of soaring, there’s something special about hooking into a thermal and climbing 4,000’ or more then taking that altitude and going somewhere, but it would add a new element to explore when the atmosphere is too stable for thermal flying.

Judson, an important correction: it doesn't create an opposing force from the paramotor moving forward through the air. It actually creates an opposing force from the propeller moving air over the fins (which moves MUCH faster and with a lot more velocity).

Injection molding or laid carbon fiber, would be a nicer solution. However, 3d printing is MUCH less investment for production of just a few units. Interesting results. Im a 125lb pilot on a moster. My ppg only has offset seating for compensation. Its definitely noticeable (torque turn), at most rpm's, including cruise rpm.

Great video. I am currently thinking through this also. I fly an Atom 80 and am 175lbs. Although I am right at the top of the power range I have zero torque issues. I keep going back and to about changing to a Moster for better climb v worse torque.
This is interesting about how better your flying with those things objectively was VS how not very impressed subjectively you look. This must be totally due to installation issues that need to be resolved. I played myself with 3d-printed counter-torque setup and came to the same conclusion: either carefully factory manufactured or no go.

Really cool video! I wonder what the time would be for a Scout to do a full 360 with a Thor? The Thor is obviously torquier than a Moster, but with the majority of peeps flying a Moster, what do you think has better overall torque compensation, a stock MacFly or a Scout? I’m bias to neutral swing arms for even turns in both directions power off, but the MacFly also seems badass and prb wins for durabilty at least.

On the moster the Macfly has almost no torque, but the torque re-emerges with a much more powerful Polini 202.

Too complicated and heavy, along with paramotor pilots being value conscience (we're cheap).
