    So wait do they go after the ones that will turn into trees or do they go after the ones they know won't turn into trees. If they go after the ones that don't turn into trees that's really smart because it means the ones that do turn into trees will turn into more acorns in time

      Coming from an entomologist that specialises in ants and sometimes weevils in my free time, they dont know if it turns into a tree. theyre pretty stupid.

    Obviously, it is not which acorn is likely to grow succesfully that the adult is interested in, as the success of the acorn in germinating has no impact on the success of the hatchlings.
