the tips from the dating coach… im hearing “short skirt” “remove jacket = marks higher” “sexier” “sexy enough” for women … i like the girl who was confident in her denim on denim outfit, shows personality. but for the guys it’s “smart casual look” so it doesnt look like no-effort or too formal, or styling tip to show personality (socks design)… now that we are in 2021, it’s time to stop telling girls to “dress sexy for men”… dress whatever makes you confident/comfortable…

Coming from a female perspective, I would say these tips are actually pretty legit tbh!
simple things like grooming, matching outfits and playing to your advantages, wearing for the occasion, checking for VPL for ladies and even things like comfort.

the dress is fine. it's just not the best outfit to flatter her personality probably. and the shoes is not the most flattering too. for a first date to IMPRESS (if you want to impress), then changing the shoes would be more ideal.
The cherry dress is ok but not on that young lady. She look so sweet. I think she look amazing in lace white light kind of dress. Cherry dress might be good on other type of lady

first date tips: just wear anything that makes you feel ultra confident (shy person can be confident too if you wear a set of clothes that suit you) and spray a good perfume. et voilà!
A few years ago I went on a date and the guy wore what looks like a crumpled t shirt you wear at home and he didn’t cut his dirty fingernails... as much as people encourage to “be yourself”, some people are just not into basic grooming.

yes, it's good to be yourself but first impression especially on a first date is very important. it's more of a basic courtesy.
What the girl with yoga clothes can do if she dont want to bring additional clothes is bringing along a nice denim jacket. Will fit into the athleisure look. Maybe throw on a bucket hat and it's complete. Coming from a fashion stylist point of view

i thought it would be better if each participant mentions the date scenario they are in. of course john john and chow ‘s outfits are perfect for a formal date but not a picnic or hiking date and so on...... so yea easier for the coach to judge based on the scenario 😅

“Be yourself” will forever be the most bs advice I’ll ever hear..being yourself is good enough if you wanna be average. You awkward, work on your social skills; out of shape, exercise and get in shape; no style, do better grooming, get nicer clothes; Don’t just be yourself, be your best self, don’t settle for anything less

Sure, a lot of commenters have the opinion that you can just heck care about presentation in terms of how you dress.
To those commenters, don't take this the wrong way, but in many of me and my friends' experiences, the people who think that way are 'coincidentally' the single ones, and end up seeking out these dating coaches a few years down the road..
My humble advice is just to stay open-minded, because a lot of ways we think about things are actually just coping mechanisms when. Best of luck to you!
Sorry I’m not sure if you understand the meaning of open minded? This means willing to consider new ideas and being unprejudiced according to the dictionary. For you to generate an opinion that “heck care about presentation is a coping mechanism” seems overly generalised and doesn’t seem pretty open minded?
Additionally, there are many reasons why some people may not be as preoccupied with their appearances and being open-minded means being able to understand and accept this.
Also, by stating that people who think this way are the single ones is in my opinion a pretty narrow-minded opinion that seems to fall on basically an assumption based off nothing. Additionally, what if anything is wrong with being single? Being open minded and all, I would assume that there should not be any prejudice and invalidation of opinions of single people right?

First off, don't worry about me being open-minded. At all. Just forget about me, I'm not worth getting so bothered over. Let's imagine that you performed some mental gymnastics, and managed to convince yourself despite anything else, that I am "close-minded".
Are you able to see that it's still sound advice / beneficial for YOU (or people in general) to be open-minded, regardless of what you concluded about me?
You managed to overlook that key point entirely simply because you were so personally affected by thinking that I'm just out here to personally attack people who don't really care about grooming / presentation.
Secondly, please realise that what you have shared here is (or was) the OVERREPRESENTED viewpoint here in this video, at least through the comments I saw at the time of my original comment posted. Hence, it was important to objectively share the minority viewpoint. In fact, nothing was "stated", which you asserted (flat out falsely). Fuck dude, it wasn't even an "opinion" LOL. It was anecdotal observation. Literally nothing can be concluded about the prevalence of the this correlation. Importantly, however, the possibility should be CONSIDERED (which, as you have demonstrated with your reaction, is not really considered. It's more of just blotted out like a mental block with a vehement reaction to anyone who dares to suggest the possibility.)
I thought it was important to point out what I pointed out, just like how I thought it was important to point out to my friend that if AML/CFT measures were heightened in future, crypto prices will be hit, and cannot be mainstreamed into a significant part of generally accepted market currencies. Actually I personally like bitcoin and dogecoin, but I just pointed out this observation, because it was underrepresented in our research.
I could've literally said the exact same thing in a condescending tone, scolding my friend, and my observations would still be exactly true. (By the way, the way I put things across in the original comment were honestly really tone-neutral, or even slightly positive.)
This is actually what it means to be open-minded, not your twistedly vague definition of "being able to understand and accept". It has nothing to do with "invalidation of opinions" of single people or of whatever people or any group or class of people at ALL. It has to do with considering all possibilities and constant skepticism of the accepted truth.
What you said about 'people have their reasons to not be preoccupied with appearances' bla bla bla is what all of us (myself included) who "care too little" about appearances by society's standards already know very clearly. In fact, it is very oftentimes the ONLY thing we know because we try to reject other possible reasons.
Now be ACTUALLY open-minded and THINK: Is there any slight possibility that when someone heck cares about presentation, there are some reasons that are a bit painful to admit because of ego reasons? (Clue: This was the ENTIRE ENTIRE point of my original comment, and an answer lies in there.)
P.S. No one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has said implying prejudice/invalidation of opinions about single/attached persons. At all. The fact that you literally brought it out of nowhere was really like a sort of "

@@shucklesors hi thanks for your reply! I think firstly, I’ve seen more positive comments than what you’ve said and actually those comments praising the video for its tips are the top few comments with the most likes. Additionally, I do find her tips helpful.
What I did not understand is how you presented the view on how the people who did not care about presentation would “coincidentally” be the single people who would have to seek out dating coaches in the future. I have seen that you stated it as an observation or anecdote in this case, which I believe is fair. What I took away from your phrase “the people who think this way ARE”, you assumed all people who thought this way were single and to seek out coaches, which i would not think as true.
Also, definitely I do agree that appearance by society’s standards could be because of ego reasons. But my key point was that to heck care is not exactly a “coping mechanism” for everyone. I would think that generalising everything else as coping mechanisms seems a bit harsh isn’t it?
I do agree with your points to keep an open mind, which is why there are both sides in the comments for the video. I just don’t see why it necessary for you to throw a negative light through your connotations of people who were to agree with the perspective of “heck care about presentation” by calling them “single ones who end up seeking out these dating coaches a few years down the road”.
Wow have not seen Winna for such a long time! The last video i remember where she was featured in was the one about Singaporeans Try taking the O level listening comprehension test.

Important factor of be comfortable in ur own skin, or u may discuss it with the partner that u gonna meet, abt the dress code that u're wearing to meet him/her. I guess all boil down to whther u guys hv the vibe or not, either way dress code is just part of the impress on first date only.

I think it is better if the dating coach could stop asking the girls to ‘show more skin’ or to wear a certain way to look ‘sexier’.
Maybe a better word choice could be ‘if you wear it this way it will make you look more attractive’ or like ‘it enhances your proportion better’ etc

Why is everyone so defensive? Have y’all not used online dating apps? Just listen to her fashion advice to look better at giving a first impression. I actually agree with her fashion advice about the first guy and the guy in black and slippers. Come on, you gotta agree with her for a FIRST date. His Cartoon shirt and slippers are big NONO. Dates from apps or blind dates are highly relied on first impression and how you dress show some respect to the other party. The dating coach actually used quite polite terms, so I don’t know why she’s getting hate.
If you alr know the person before the first date, there is background knowledge about the other party alr so you don’t need to rely on fashion for cues into the other person’s personality.

I actually appreciate the directness with which Tricia gave her feedback. As someone who dates men: the feedback for the guy styles (if you could call some of them that) was on point.
It’s tricky because every person probably has a slightly different style and different things that would flatter them - but her tips are a good point of reference for people who have no idea how to begin. (Assuming ignorance, rather than indifference, for minimum culpability.)
You don’t have to agree with everything but I have to say it’s a good baseline. No bed hair, be clean and dress for the occasion please. There are people IRL who could benefit from these tips!

Wear anything that is comfy/ to your liking don’t try to impress far from your liking on the first date.
One of my dates showed up in army shirt and shorts after his gymming session. Can comfy but not too comfy.... LOL

But I think the advice is pretty good because she does try to assess each person based on what their current style is instead of changing it altogether. I was pleasantly surprised she did not really try to drastically change the guy in the all black outfit despite how much she disliked his look hahaha

Precisely we carry the clothes not the other way round. Shorts are equally effective ;)
Suggest: Maybe instead of just criticising or an opinion piece, why not let them go get a second go at it after receiving the advice and see the difference. Although I think some of them were asked to wear in a specific way, it still does hurt. So letting them have a second chance is good for their self confidence as well

We believe that first impressions and basic grooming is important and some people out there could benefit from professional tips, hence we had a styling coach come to give everyone advice. 🙂 Not everyone has the access to professional advice and Tricia has very kindly collaborated with us for this purpose. It’s ok to disagree or not take her advice, but some viewers might benefit from it. Tricia also said it’s ok to wear shorts, and just gave advice on what length it should be to best flatter your body.
People r superficial. Have you ever used online dating? If you show up to a date looking crummy and unfashionable, high chance is that u might not get a second date. 💀
It might be second nature to you to look good, but some people just don’t have that basic “sense”. “Just be who you are” may be actually bad for some people who don’t even know how to make good first impressions or be “neat and presentable”. She oso never say can’t wear shorts, just what type of shorts is better.
Sadly shorts and presentable are two words that don’t always complement each other. Yes you should be comfortable with what you wear but you should also put in some effort to show that your date is important to you. I’ve always treated dates with the same attitude as any job interview. Hence, I put the same amount of effort in dressing up.
