Can you make a video on avenues on work once you have passed you Mountain Leader?
I'll give it some thought for sure :)
I think the majority of instructors I've had seem to be very anti gps devices, so I appreciate this video! I use a Fenix 7X when I'm out with groups, or on MRT call outs: (the latter is so time critical we always use electronic navigation). The latest generation Fenix has much better battery, and instantly fixes my position. Also, the ease of transferring courses from OS to the device is so simple! That said, I enjoy having and using a paper map and physical compass!
Looking forward to the traverse rescue video - would be a great Easter treat 🙂
I'm still building up to it!
Interesting discussion JB. For me map and compass as back up, GPS as it has a better aerial for getting a signal and a phone. We can use them all - it's about getting the job done efficiently and no dramas. I got the GPS watching a rescue going on trying to pinpoint the grid ref in 40mph winds. I thought about trying to do that with the nearly zero viz and getting out an O/S map trying to work out last known position etc. Thanks for the content.
Glad you liked it :)
Resting heart rate of 46?!?! Very fit 👏🏻👏🏻
i've always been taught that newer/more complicated tech is always more likely to fail, especially in harsh environments (read: anywhere outdoors) and because of that you should never rely on tech in the outdoors, especially for navigation. it can make things so much faster and easier, but carrying a map and compass (and knowing how to use them properly), reading the weather/conditions yourself and carrying at least 1 back up to your main communication device are fundamentals of every outdoor/marine activity
It's a balancing act I guess :)
Do you think that they should add some training as part of the ML scheme to the use of technology?
Yup! To be honest on mine we do talk about them a bit, and I'm sure many other providers do too.
Hi what guidebook are you using/recommend? Thanks
It was this one in the photos: amzn.to/38vJ55i
@@JBMountainSkills thanks that's great, loving all the videos by the way 😃
Love the channel! Would you ever be interested in climbing with a GoPro? it would be dope to see you on one of these adventures!
Maybe one day, I have one, just don't use it much!
For all you Yanks (such as myself), a quid is one British pound.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could customise a smart watch and remove all those apps that you don’t want. I wonder what that would do to the battery life? Nice one Jez 👍
You can do a bit of that on this one. If and when they get OS GR it'll be a lot better!
Just buy one of the cheaper models from Coros.
Cheers, interesting vid.. I have a Garmin instinct solar.. not too expensive (about £200) great battery life and does everything simply..
Glad you liked it!
Off topic, but I really miss your old intro
That was a refreshing perspective and will have opened a few minds. I know a good few folk in the outdoors who'd benefit from hearing this!
Glad you liked it :)
