    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

I have mad respect for Mahaswamiji. He is so astute and is able to field complex questions about different methods & spiritual experiences effortlessly! He knows all the varied vocabulary & can articulate the different systems -- always pointing to the superiority of Advaita Vedanta without belittling the other paths. He never passes judgment or criticizes! I personally have studied the yogic path for 20 years till I found Advaita Vedanta about 8 years ago. His clarity and vast knowledge makes listening to him so easy; as though he's explaining the difference between 1st grade & 3rd grade curriculum. Pranams, pranams, pranams Swamiji. 🙏🙏🕉💐💐🌺🌼⚘⚘

I totally agree! The way he represents Vedanta on international platforms and the way he teaches is extraordinary. It makes us proud of our heritage. People should realize the treasure we have and we should learn. It would be waste of this life , if we don’t read or meditate on Vedanta and advaita Vedanta.

With true Kundalini, You can have both mystical experiences and direct recognition. The profound insight of mystical experience does not come and go but guides us on all levels of our being. It is Kundalini beginning to wake up that makes a person a seeker and puts them on the spiritual path, even the direct path of Jnana in the first place. Sri Ramakrishna had It all! He demonstrated this to Totapuri. ❤️

Kundalini and enlightenment seems to be a microcosmic representation of the constellation of draco, ie the serpent, and of the central Pole star (there are three of them, like the Silmarils in the Tolkien legendarium) which is Thuban, positioned at the head of the serpent so to speak. So perhaps it is a microcosmic representation of the enlightenment of the cosmic man Purusha. The Pole Star represents the still point of the turning heavens and so is commonly a symbol for enlightenment.
A similar stellar symbolism seems to unlock something of the mystery of the story of the Garden of Eden in Genesis as well.

From my experience, I used to meditate a lot 13 years ago. I got spontaneous Kundalini awakening and had near death experience. Few years ago , I came across sarvapriyananda and vedanata and all my experience seemed kinda logical. Now I feel spritual naturally most of the time. I also have started reading Autobiography of yogi and have finished apprenticed to Himalayan yogi. Those books have cleared lot of my doubts.
I do question how normal person can grasp Advaita Vedanat without any experience. Atleast one should try be more eligible and make oneself more disattached to worldy things and show compassion to all living being. This will help you understand advaita more. But I would recommend doing all Four Yogas to understand what life is...Bhakti is also a must as I wouldnt have gotten this experience without the grace of my Gurudev and Ishta Deuta Shri Ganesh who is Omkara

As per my experience due to lack of discipline... Kundalini awakening caused me some physical harm... and some mental disbalance... hypersensitivity to every sensation. In Advaitic terms... it was as if my realisation was being stuck to the World rather than The Truth. It was very bodily and mental. But indeed it did help me unlift my levels towards realization.
Yet what I figured out was that Kundalini can't just right away take you towards realizing THE ULTIMATE. Its rather a bumpy process. U can go nuts if not done in the right way with supervision. Its like mastering an art or sport.

Do we also control the body? I understand that the Self is I who experiences the body, but does it also control the body? In other words, is controlling the body part of that experiencing? Or are our thoughts simply created by the mind/brain and we’re just experiencing whatever the brain tells the body to do - and we, the Self, is just along for the ride? So the body is basically autonomous and we are simply experiencing the autonomous actions of our mind telling our body’s what to do?

Brahman does not care about surviving or not surviving. The idea of survinving comes from the appearance one have as being alive. We are already imortal, is it with a dead or alive body-mind. Don't wor...I mean, your body-mind will worry anyway :)

    • @brunoborma
      @brunoborma 3 роки тому

@@evolvexxx5848 my dear...the idea of being capable of being in Brahman arms out of this life is an appearance. You are already.and will always be in Brahman arms, because you are it already. All the appearances, feelings and sensations you and I have in this life are part of Brahman. Brahman cannot be without all these things. It is how it is. It will come a time when we continue to feel the suffering but we don't react badly to it, nor do we feed it. That is what concerns you I'm sure. We all suffer because we all have a body-mind. And having this body-mind is part of the story. We will overcome it if we want.

I understand what you are saying swamiji, but i dont understand the path to conciousness, You bieng the knower of all advaita vedanta , have you experienced the greater self , a experience which shows us we are all the same , or experience which shows us the god , the truth or the purpose if life?

I recomend you watch Swamiji's ultimate truth video. We are all already experiencing the truth you talk about. We just forgot how to discriminate it amidst all things we percieve.

My understanding is that the serpent power kundalini coiled at the base of the spine MUST be awakened to unfold samadhi!! It is this prana locked in the Muladhara Chakra that binds us to worldliness! Without opening these 7 doors in the subtle spinal columns there is no enlightenment, could it be otherwise?

I honor you and your incredible work. But your very last statement sounds incorrect. It contradicts your recent interview with professor T. about Kasmir Shaivism. The experience might be different. But you both agreed that both paths reach the same ultimate realization. We say I am Brahman. They say I am Shiva. But essentially equal the same thing. I am Infinite Universal consciousness. I can’t understand why you would Conclude this talk saying otherwise.

Yes, Experiences differ but the realisation remains the same. Kundalini Yoga, seems different than Kashmiri Shaivism. Kashmiri Shaivism is Advaitic in approach and in its practices too. Kundalini Yoga is an approach among Sankhya philosophers.

It is the ego that becomes enlightened. It is not that there is realization that I (the Self) am the witness consciousness...it is the ego's realization that i am NOT the witness consciousness. The witness consciousness never shifts! It is immutable. Swamji has a poor choice of words.

Advaaita vedanta is Brahman is in misconception as each one of us. Brahman is removing its own misconception is self enquiry.
Tragedy is even though one us can make self enquiry and realize Brahman. Same Brahman will continue its misconception in other.
They don't accept the reality of plurality of individual souls. This is also misconception.

It's strange only the Soul can recognise a true Guru! These operate on the heart and possess the vital and the Soul taking away all energy that comes from cosmos.....why r they called Gurus and have so much powers todo all nonsense from rape to mind control and bombard with energy from 3rd eye and brahma randra....
A pious seeker too becomes a victim to such and then where r the true Gurus who lend a protective hand to a seeker.....
Wonder if true Gurus exist or all r just busy talking without any yogic capacity

Tell us something concrete and genuine. What is the human anatomical equivalent of 'kundalini'? What are the fictitious nerves like 'ira', 'pingala' and 'sushumna'? Do you admit that those are all 'hysterical' anatomical constructions of the human anatomy that predate proper medically accurate anatomical mapping? My interactions are not meant for childrens enlightenment.

Mr. Swamiji, you’re explaining kundalini without mentioning the significance of the chakra symbols, meaning that your presentation is devoid of any credibility. The chakra symbols are instructions for a physically active motion rhythm meditation, that we can do to escape the experience of gravity, and that’s where the fun is, with all those endogenous happy-feeling hormones in our blood stream, explained by the thousands of petals in sahasrara.

No in kundalini you also realize you are Brahman because once you open up the Sahasra chakra then you become one with the divine conciousness itself and become literally a reflection of ishwara the manifest conciousness in a sense kundalini yoga is not interested in just relaxing one is Brahman it also provides you with the ability to having realized this truth out of gratitude to the other divine shakti for showing you this reality you become Shakti eg the manifest saguna Brahmans das participating in the creation while fully aware of the truth being beyond the cycles of birth and death essentially a state of perment jivanmukti. See those yogis on the kundalini path do not desire to leave the creation and merge into Brahman fully and give up their sense of duality rather they know that they are one have experienced the oneness and then come out of that state to help and assist others to reach that space and truth as well so no Advaita vedanta and kundalini yoga are not so different it is just kundalini so a technique while Advaita is a philosphy just as self enquiry is another technique. Basically both lead to the state of advait but the technique used to get there is different
