And yet 47,000 people have watched this video and thousands of people listened to Brady and Greigh talk about it. I would never have heard of this play otherwise... I'd say that was a successful peanut cameo.
Fun fact, someone I went to high school with had an incredibly severe airborne peanut allergy. They were a freshman when I was a senior and for that entire year (and presumably the following three) there was a hard ban on ANYTHING peanut in the school. Peanuts were disallowed in the forms of nut, butter, and everything in between.
All the schools I went to did that. One of them even had mugshots of all the students with allergies in sickbay, so if any of them showed up, then the teacher on duty would immediately know what to do.
At least the cheap government white bread PB&J sandwich with cheese would not be a thing. I got so tired of this odd dessert item used as a food staple.
I’m beginning to think the “contains peanuts” thing may have been an artistic thing that Brady didn’t understand. Marketing and plays do silly things like this frequently.
As a theatre person I imagine they must have at least bought a bag of peanuts for rehearsals, and the director or crew might have been munching on them in the lobby to the point where they couldn't reasonably guarantee the safety of someone with peanut allergies. Still seems a bit over the top, though.
Simply fantastic, as always! Thank you for bringing HI content, when currently there is a lack of it! The detail of the blackboard is absolutely hilarious :D Thanks for making me laugh on break!
That was, as always, glorious, and I adored all the extra minor details you put throughout. Amazing video, and I can’t wait to see what you animate next!
I was going to point that out: that legally, you can't change the line without permission from the playwright, so if they didn't have time to ask, or asked and got refused, they may have been stuck with using the peanut. (Now, as with MANY "technically illegal" things, that doesn't stop some directors or theaters from doing it anyway, but still, those are the 'rules'.) cr pol is also right, though, that even with the peanut line, it should be trivial to make a facsimile of a peanut that would convince audiences.
As someone with several allergies (including peanuts), I can assure you that I'm the only person in my family with a peanut allergy and it is not genetic. Both my parents have no allergies and my sister is only allergic to kiwi.
I wonder if the manager of the theater was one of those people who thinks allergies aren't real and was trying to make a joke about allergy warnings on things.
There are so many little details you include and I love them!!! So many little jokes and references like how does your brain think to fit all of them in its very good
Interestingly enough I know someone with that bad a peanut allergy, when she was like 5 her father had a PB and J. When he went home some many hours later she had an allergic reaction to his breath because he was on the same room as her. This was like 5 hours later and she still reacted to it
Hey so where has HI been? I don’t use social media or anything, besides UA-cam I guess. Can someone fill me in? Are they okay? I miss HI. Unless my app just doesn’t get HI anymore
Brady has given a few updates elsewhere: imgur.com/BEeaKeK Basically he say's they're on a break. No word on when (dare I say if ever) they would resume.
Sweeney Todd at a high schoolin Auckland - they thought it would be smart to use a real razorblade wrapped in duct tape to pretend to cut someone's throat. There were children sent to the ER. Stupidest part was you couldn't tell it was a razor blade cos it was WRAPPED IN BLOODY DUCT TAPE
Hilarious! A HI classic and sooo well animated! Made my day. I miss HI sooo much...I hope they didn’t fall out with each other or anything if the sort. Am really wondering why there hasn’t been any new episodes in so long. :(
Here I am, a confused person Cons of mask wearing......... except health care professionals have been using masks since they existed. Like every day. And there are no cons. It might be inconvenient and annoying but it’s the only thing we can do. Seriously. Please think about other vulnerable people. Edit: sorry i came at you pretty aggressively. I didn’t mean to sound harsh. If you have more concerns about mask wearing please watch this video it’s very informative and unbiased: ua-cam.com/video/0Tp0zB904Mc/v-deo.html
This is so amazing! If you haven't listened to it, you should check out Brady's other podcast The Unmade Podcast and it would be an absolute joy if you animated it as well.
They probably HAD to use a peanut because the licensing agreements that you have to sign to use most scripts don't allow you to change the text AT ALL. Not even something as insignificant to the overall work as changing this peanut to a pretzel. Now, why they used an actual peanut and not a fake one they had the prop department carve out of scrap wood or something, I can't begin to fathom.
Even today I feel like it would be an effective strategy to just drop peanut dust onto the enemy army from a plane every 10,000 soldiers hit with this, 100 will die. Thats not much but the thing is, its so insanely cheap to just get peanut dust it would probably be worth it
Easy anwesr: marketing this warning about peanuts would intrest even a person that doesn't care about the play never underestimate what people will do for marketing
Eh, Occam's Razor. Is it more likely that an overly cautious venue owner that doesn't understand how peanut allergies work was afraid of a lawsuit, or that a marketing team thought that an unnecessary peanut alergy warning would make people want to see a show, only to be disappointed and distracted the entire performance?
Why would anyone care about a peanut? And let’s assume it would attract more viewers hypothetically, wouldn’t as many people be driven away from the play because they have a peanut allergy?
Sounds like an inside joke between the people who did the show. I don't think it had any real significance to random other people. People forget that they are mere NPCs (or peanuts) to other humans
ALLERGY ADVISORY: THIS PLAY WAS PRODUCED BY A PLAYWRIGHT WHO ALSO WRITES OTHER PLAYS CONTAINING PEANUTS AND/OR TREE NUTS.
The Hank Green popping up behind the Montana sign was amazing

I'm hoping that's the case here.
But still, to what end??
Omigosh, I have a pretty severe peanut allergy and that scene is not worth the warning... they're right, just replace the peanut, wtf.
If they didn’t replace it, and you were sitting front row, would you get sick?
All I got out of this was that I'd really like to see a play about George Washington Carver.
That's no Dust mite, that's a Joltik!
Yea!

This makes me miss HI, great animation!

I wonder if the manager of the theater was one of those people who thinks allergies aren't real and was trying to make a joke about allergy warnings on things.
