Your videos normally make me wanna buy things, but this one made me decide to never change the boot as I would not have the patience for that and would break it haha.
+GeordieUSA Lol. I really made this video because I wanted to show the patience that it sometimes take for the diy kinda folks, and changing a gator is harder than installing a set of springs or exhaust. Lol. At least it's out there now for people to watch to know how and before they want to get into something. Looks like it worked. Thank you as always for the comment!
Yeh I'm gad you made it and saved me from getting mad after I bought it haha. Keep the videos coming, I am using them as reference this weekend for my bushing and shift kit install, then a rmm when it shows up!
I tried out the buckets before I bought and went with the recaros. Definitely more comfortable to drive in. Buckets maybe ok for track days but for day to day driving, it has to be the recaros. The bucket adjustments were very basic for the price.
I saw the video pop up from you and I got excited because I thought it was the FMIC video!!! Great video otherwise. Nice and precise with little tips. I want you making videos full time!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
+ryhchan it comes as a whole assembly unfortunently with a new leather boot, so I guess it'll be a be more careful taking this one apart. I'll have the PN Friday.
I'm having a hell of a time with the reverse lockout bracket attached to the boot still. I mess with it and walk away and mess with it some more and walk away.
+Rev it’s held together with two clips inside the collar. You need to carefully try to wedge them open while pulling up on the outside. I did mine 1 side at a time and once getting one side left the eyeglass flathead in to get the other side. I’d rather rebuild a motor than do it again to be honest but it is doable just very time consuming and frustrating. Also the collar is made of just about the cheapest plastic a car company could make and it’s not intended for reuse thus it being a pita. That’s why Mountune does not sell them with the collar I assume. Just keep working at it. One piece of advice not in my video is to try and get a piece of round stock or dowel rod that fits pretty flush in the lockout while doing it as there will be less of a chance the plastic will break. That is a huge help for the 2nd one I did for my friend. I actually did it on the shifter flipped up side down to access the bottom.
It would have been helpful to show the collar one removed giving a visual on how and where to press. You break away at the critical moment not leaving it clear where to press. Much appreciated for the effort, I've already broken it once and don't want to replace it again. Shame on Mountune for not providing directions or better, sell it assembled. I think this is the most difficult frustrating modification I've ever encountered. Would rather put the sound suppressor in 100 times than do this once!
now you provide full disclosure! I cut the reverse lock out off the second one to salvage the brushed aluminum piece. Oh and there were no cuts in the new boot
Weird the boot I got had cuts for everything. What you did is almost what you everyone has had to do sodas not feel to bad. For my mustang I smashed the plastic with a hammer and picked it out going to the Barton unit. I’m supervised no one has made a billet collar for the focus reverse lockout yet. It not a complicated part to make.
christopher ayres are you slowly building a brand new rs bit by bit, another helpful how to do it video thanks christopher, pity you are not doing shell seat lowering kit install.
+Astyn 31 First Thank you. Unfortunently I'm in the US. No shell seat offer 😢. It's a really good idea for comfort. My only worry would be, just because I worked on the launch of the car, is if any accident were to happen the airbag for the driver in the steering wheel and the A-Pillar in car is not optimal anymore. Might work on US spec seats as long as the tracks are the same though. I'm importing some EU parts...waiting on international shipping and back orders for install on my US car. Hopefully goes well. Maybe I'll get the seats if I can find them reasonable, the shell seats to the us are like $5,000 right now new, I can put 5K in a lot of places on this car besides the interior. Lol
When I try and pull the gaitor up over the bolt/screw, it won’t come because the lockout is stopping it !! Any suggestions on how to get the reverse lockout out
What are your thoughts of the mustang? Seems like it is being well received here in the U.K. I have an SL 63 which I still think is a great work horse but the RS feels so connected. It inspires confidence.
+Don Smith The best part of the mustang GT 5.0 is bullit proof. It is probably the only engine in our time that has taken so much abuse with such little failure. Plus it is a twisty made muscle car. It handles better than any American V8. I think the mustang is a rear wheel drive powerhouse with good track capabilities for what it is. Great car, legendary engine.
Hey Chris, this is a great install video. I'm working on making a new solid metal reverse lockout piece to replace the cheap silver plastic one. Can I have your permission to link to this video for the installation instructions for my customers? It should get you some more views. Thanks!
i went to the dealership because i noticed my rear speakers were not working as good as the front. they told me i had three error codes. then they said they have to remove something from in the dash to get a part number so that ford can send them the correct update. does this sound right. i hate the thought of these guys who most don't know anything about these cars, taking parts out of my dash. next thing after they do that i'm sure i'll have rattles and squeaks. thank you Christopher for any info!
+Charlie Times what did they think was wrong on your dash? I have 6 error codes from my tune, but dash codes are useless and shouldn't dictate parts. Do you know what parts they were trying to get?
+Paul Salamasidis there are some that I have been improving to keep up with the consistent evolution of the RS and time constraints with my engineering work. I will add many of the tutorial type videos back on with a better interface and look very soon. Just has been crazy traveling at work and trying to professionalize the videos more for a better audience experience and retention. I truly make these videos because I had the homer of working with the RS first hand and want to make sure I'm giving you guys the best and latest information only. I don't do this for money but for a document of real RS information with no guess work and confidence in my knowledge sharing on what is truth and what a lot of people seem to post as speculation coated in a real look. I hope you and the rest of my viewers can stick with my channel as it is based on fact, real assembly procedures and factual information. Look forward to a lot of updates as my newest launch is nearing an end.
Christopher Ayres thanks for your reply I really enjoy all your videos. I am planning on purchasing the M380 from mountune because it has the 50 state carb approval. ( I am a chicken when it comes to doing the other upgrades because of their disclaimer that they may not be legal on the street😬.) there are some parts in the M380 that I believe you have installed your RS and I will be taking advantage of them 😊. Anyway I will make the purchase in a couple of months I need to deal with that recall about the check engine light which I just received actually about a week ago.thanks again for making this channel you are awesome. Also I loved the exhaust you put on and I will be putting that on my list as well. Thanks and take care.
+Paul Salamasidis Thank you very much and I have not forgetting about the community or my love for Ford. I wish I could you tube full time but like being an engineer too, just prioritizing everything for good content for everyone.
Christopher ,have you got shares in Mountune.lol Guess you don't need to fit the JCR seat lowering kit with your seats? Unless Mountune have an alternative, lol
+keith morris lol. I have a long relationship with many of the guys that started Mountune USA before mountune, god 18 years now. For the most part I truly do believe their parts are more engineered than other companies because they work with FRPP. I like CpE, Cobb, but Mountune's advantage is where Cobb and almost all other tuning companies have just got into the Ford scene since the ST was introduced, mountune's been working with ford platforms since the 1980 escort RS200. So I'm partial two ways. Love the guys, and their builders and their tuner knows the ford platform inside out, more than anybody, and it's a huge bitch, more than any other company I'd confidently say besides maybe M-Sport or Cosworth, but there is no more Cosworth they all went to Mountune. Lol. They are good to me though so in return I like to be good to them, especially the same 4 guys that have been helping me for 18 years now on my Fords.
hey Christopher, I had a question about my sync3 update. what would keep the update from downloading into my car? at the dealership we tried three different laptops but no luck, car wouldn't except update. I think I have more then just an update problem. this sucks, if you have any input it would be greatly appreciated
+My72MGB I’m still here and have some really big and somewhat disturbing content I will be posting in the next week with the RS, not just mine...all RS. I have not uploaded or had time because I’m a new vehicle launch engineer which has had me traveling out of the state and country about 3 weeks out of each month. I do apologize for that, but for a hint to my newest upload...I decided to do some internal work on my motor and found some very intriguing things with the inside of the motor that has nothing to do with tuning or modifications and I think those that wouldn’t normally tear their motor apart would not notice, of course if I have a chance to do things I will. Lol but I think everyone will be very surprised at my next upload and maybe a bit disappointed. But I’ll leave it to each their own to decide. I did not damage my motor I actually installed some upgrades, but the stock conditions will be surprising to a lot of people. I’m still with you guys keeping up in comments, etc. not going anywhere, especially since I’m only 16 subs from 1,000! Car still has less than 10,000 miles. Lol that shows how much of a chance I’ve had to drive it with my crazy workload.
Christopher Ayres oh boy, I'm nervous. I purchased my RS 3 weeks ago. It's my daily and I've been praying I have no problems with it. 5 years till she's paid for! And then I can buy a shitbox to daily. Ahhhh 😣 I'll be looking forward to your update.. I'm scared though
+goodluckwithallthat I am totally sure you will be fine. Issues seem to be isolated to 2016 first 4 months of production. I personally have not seen a 17 have an issue I’ve herd of anyway.
Hi fella thanks thanks that would be great, the UK store have recently added some new stuff, but it doesn't have as many mods as the US. I would like to add some personal touches, are you thinking doing outside mods? Iam thinking of getting some gel inserts
+Stephen Heyes I havnt thought about it as of yet. I've been really concentrating on power items for the most part. I've seen some that look pretty good though.
Iam considering of going for the mountune 375 kit, because at least I will be covered under warranty with the upgrade, who did your tune? Was it Adam tune?
+Charlie Times I've got a few new goodies lined up. I've been traveling almost every week for this new launch so have been a little neglectful of my channel but I do have some footage I need to edit and should be back on track as soon as this other car starts TT production. It's been 60 hot weeks and 1 night home a week for a about 2 months now. I'm not going to quit though. Don't worry about that. There's still plenty of stuff to cram into this car. BTW do you have any experience with sway bars? I feel like at highway speeds when at 70 when I'm not accelerating I'm getting understeer. Thinking bigger front sway but wanted some input from anyone that's done sway bars and their honest thoughts.
great news, looking forward to more vids. the only car I ever upgraded sway bars on was a 91 fox body, i always thought it was never a bad idea to go with bigger sway bars. great to hear from you man. don't work to hard. i finally got to talk to the right guy at my dealership and my car gets updated Tuesday.
+NocoPBMLS2 Thanks my southeastern friend. Man what a pain in the ass though. I would have rather done a turbo swap or something. They really don't want you taking this apart, of course I'll always figure out a way to. Lol
Hi Chris, you nailed that installation! Good to see what's involved with removing the old gator. Thanks for the tips and warnings.
+Don Smith Thank you. Hope it helps if you ever try it.

I'm looking forward to installs of Wide bodykits and skirts/ splitters :)
+E C if I can find any decent ones I may consider.
Intricate install, successfully done. Looking forward to the next video!
+SRT8Cat Thank You Much. As always I'm always looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for the great vid as always Chris!
Do you have the ford part# of the silver collar you mentioned at the end of the vid?

+mohammed bostan making it better!
Like the Alcantara seats. We didn't get that option in U.K. I would have preferred it.
+Tony ORourke we diddnt get the shell seats. I'm on the fence if I would have gotten them though.
Great Install looks awesome ... Have you seen Fezza's seat adjustment Install .. he lowered the seating position

+Foxslayer Thank You! I have not seen you comment before so Welcome too!
Where you cold or something?
Good to have you back Chris. Hope the new launch goes well! Will it be the new 500hp RS??
+Don Smith Umm. I don't see one off those soon. I do have a 545HP mustang in my driveway right now though. Lol. 2014 Mustang RS3.
When I try and pull the gaitor up over the bolt/screw, it won’t come because the lockout is stopping it !! Any suggestions on how to get the reverse lockout out
You should be able to just bend the tabs for the reverse lockout outwards carefully. They will unhook. Just be slow and try not to break.
can you buy just the black plastic piece anywhere?
No. I wish, this would have been much easier. Lol
What are your thoughts of the mustang? Seems like it is being well received here in the U.K. I have an SL 63 which I still think is a great work horse but the RS feels so connected. It inspires confidence.

Yes go ahead. If you mass produce I’ll link your site in the description.
By the way, about time someone made a metal one. Everyone will enjoy LatheWerks metal reverse lockout collar much more than they even know! BUY ONE!
Thanks for the permission. I'll post a link once the new lockout is available.
Looking forward to this, your shift knobs are second to none!
looks great Christopher!
+Charlie Times Thank you Charlie!

Where do you find a replacement plastic lockout? My dealer told me they could only order it as an assembly for $61
+EvilTownail unfortunently that is how it comes as a whole stock boot assembly.
Do I have to follow all the same steps for the ST?
+achad7777 unfortunently I believe you do. These shift boosts are such a pain in the ass unless someone starts selling a full Assembly.
just at the moment of removing the boot covers the image with the arm
