Time? Is it really that time again? It's crazy to think about, but I've only started uploading these playthrough videos 7 months ago, back in January of this year, with my Black Mesa playthrough. Since then, Black Mesa has come out of public beta, Half-life: Alyx released after a 13 year hiatus, and I've completed 5 Half-Life games in total. Time sure does fly! Hopefully these videos have served their main purpose: to show this amazing series of games in a cinematic and easy-to-follow manner, as if it was one long movie from Gordon Freeman's perspective. I'd like to think my quality of playthroughs has gotten better with each passing game as well. Episode Two in particular was always one I was looking forward to because of the amazing setpieces it has. Again, I can't thank you guys enough for the support and comments. While we all wait for the next installment in the Half-Life series, I will continue to upload more Half-Life related content - just because I finished all the playthroughs doesn't mean I don't have any more ideas! I will be taking a break first, as I've pretty much uploaded non-stop for 5 games in a row. I never wanted to commit myself to a regular upload rate outside of these playthroughs, but rest assured that when the time comes, I'll have more Half-Life (and potentially Portal) content for you guys. Until then everyone :) Cheers.
SPOILERS FOR HALF LIFE ALYX ------------------ I just remembered, now that Eli is alive, he can finally tell us about the G-Man and what he can do. I personally think it’s a Shu’lathoi.
Someone else pointed it out in a different video, but the way the injured Advisor crawls away, squirming violently like a desperate, unhinged animal, brilliantly fills you with total contempt towards this species in such a clever way. A "True colors" moment. The Combine, as far as we can tell, are LED by the Advisors, and they try so hard to parade themselves as an unstoppable empire of all-powerful, telekinetic overlords, latching onto other habitable worlds, enslaving their races, and draining them of their resources, crushing them into submission effortlessly. They insist on being remembered as an invincible species that will dominate anyone they can find across the multiverse. But once they receive strong-enough pushback, when they take the slightest physical damage, you see them for what they truly are: Spineless, soulless freaks that leech onto foreign life, stealing away everything you love and cherish, to sustain themselves out of desperation. They're nothing more than an off-world parasite. Weak, pathetic, revolting, and in no way qualified to hold the power they've obtained. They're a weak-but-dangerous predator that must be destroyed at its core, for the good of all worlds.
Alyx and Eli exchanging "I love you" kills me. He's making sure his daughter knows he loves her before he dies, and Alyx is making sure that the last thing her dad ever hears is an affirmation of his daughter's love. Eli then choosing to make his very last words a gentle direction to his daughter to look away so she isn't haunted by the vision of her father being violently killed. The gentle acceptance Eli has of his death here - he knows as soon as he's picked up that there's no hope and so he chooses, in his last moments, to take care of his daughter and help her start the process of working through the death before he's gone. Absolutely selfless and an act of pure love. I genuinely cannot watch this scene without tears. It is so beautiful and maybe the most touching death in all of fiction for me.
From what I think and know, Gman intentionally sucummed himself to the Combine so he could test Alyx's ability and use her to save Eli so he could work with his original plan which could only work if Eli was alive(that's why Gman told Alyx to tell Eli "Prepare for umforseen consequences"). I wonder what would have happened if Dog stayed with Eli closer saving him from the advisors. The whole "Vault Incident" wouldn't happen as Gman wouldn't need her to save Eli. Will they just go destroy Borialis? Half Life lore is so confusing yet so fascinating lol.
I too think G-man deliberately allowed himself to be captured. I'd imagine certain elements of the timeline, even down to Dog being a bit further away from Eli so that he dies, was pre-determined by past events that the G-man had some part in.
recently got a vr headset and wanted to play all the half life games before alyx to understand the lore, im glad i found you because even though i would skip to a part im stuck on or just look back at gameplay that amazed me, your videos are always so pleasing to watch, i appreciate it and now i’m onto alyx finally

Oh yeah, the track that was playing at the end was "Dark Interval", yes? I recall the All-Knowing Vort's line: "We do not fear the interval of darkness." Turns out the Dark Interval was more for us than any character in the series. We sure have waited for so damn long before HLA. I credit my busy life for the past decade that I haven't been too stressed out with waiting, but deep down I really wanted to get all the way to the end of this saga we all love. Thank goodness the dark interval is over... or is it? I guess what counts for now is the reassurance that Valve still intends to see through the end, even if it means taking long. Hopefully we all live to hold that crowbar again, for all the right reasons. Once more, really appreciate your playthroughs! ♡ Now onto HLA nyehehehehehe~

I've always hated the end of EP2.
I remember being super bummed out that Eli died so soon after he revealed that he knew much more about the G-man than Gordon is aware of.

I'm glad you enjoy this playstyle! Though I likely won't cover HL1 anytime soon, narratively it goes through much of the same hoops as Black Mesa
Dude I hate the advisor, it killed my happiness as a bee looking.

I don't understand this logic...
Well, like you said, Alyx saved Eli from the advisor. So he never got killed in the first place.
Thus basically rewriting a part of the timeline.
People always thought that the G-man could manipulate time as well, we got our answer
Btw the G-man continues being a misterious character...

Medic Rebel: Dunno, I never seen him before.
