  • A song from the 1965 musical "Promenade", lyrics by María Irene Fornés, music by Al Carmines. Miss Kahn was in the original cast of this production.
Song and interview in reverse order. All credit to the original capper (it was deleted from youtube before).

I love her so much, she was so shy and introverted IRL and came across as awkward in interviews and I’m so much the same. She was adorable.

Thank you. This is from Promenade in which she appeared but is not on the cast album. Gorgeous vocal and performance of a true Al Carmines classic

I believe the musical was presented in 1969, not 1965. I was taken to it as a birthday treat, and I loved it. (Many others, including Walter Kerr in the Times, did not.) The cast included Alice Playten as well as Kahn.

+John Yohalem The first NY production was 1965 at Judson Church. The version with Kahn was 1969.

I had no idea there was a version before it opened the Promenade Theater!
I only started going to Carmines' shows with Peace. (1968?)
In any case, it is very sad not to have it in revivable form. No one seems to have a clue about the proper light, elegant style: It's all nonsense but it must be sung taken with total seriousness.

I couldn't help but notice the piano player. Is that Jason Robert Brown?

Joel SIlberman -- Jason Robert Brown is a wunderkind, but would not be sitting quite so tall at the keyboard in 1986. Well, he would have been 16, so he could have been sitting that tall -- but without the assurance and flourishes of Silberman.

She died at age 57 of aggressive ovarian cancer, in 1999. Seems like she's been gone forever... Buried in Joisey.

@@Ellen19144 Makes me so sad that she died at such a young age. Immensely talented and just as complex. Madeline was a true "one of a kind."
