- In this installment, Madeline Kahn is wonderful but the show around her is just sort of *there*, and musical guest Carly Simon didn't get the memo about the whole "Live" part of the program. Stay Tuned!

You forgot to mention Chevy playing the cow bell along with “Your So Vain”.
She's maybe my favorite actress ever
Actually, I thought the Belushi / Kahn musical sketch was a hoot. Guess it helps if you remember that song when it was on the radio. Memory lane, man!
The John belushi Madeline Kahn detective skit is brilliance!
You’re just too young to appreciate true music .
It's not my age - it's my lack of Broadway experience/knowledge. The references simply didn't land for me.
I certainly appreciate the technicality of that sort of performance, it just isn't a genre I choose to listen to. (I actually sang lead in several school musicals - I'm no hater! lol)
@@latenightsaturday7142 The humor isn’t a Broadway reference, but the fact they took an old love song, “I will follow him” by Peggy March, and turned it into a duet about a worried wife hiring a private detective to find her missing husband.
Have you ever heard the original song?
BTW, your reviews are good and it’s nice to have the younger generation exploring these early episodes that are hard to find unless one is willing to pay per episode.
Thanks for sharing!
@@cffnmkr13 @latenightsaturday7142 To put a fine point on it, the reference is to the 1974 movie "Chinatown." It's a hard-boiled 40s-style detective noir starring Jack Nicholson, and I guess the joke here is 'what if they made a movie that doesn't naturally lend itself to being a musical into a musical?"
"Mame? rather than "Mamie." Although, most critics called it "Maimed."
I'm unfamiliar with the work other than my brief research for the episode. Sorry for the error.
(Lol, "Maimed")
Carly Simon's two songs were not in one segmrnt. Half A Chance was perforrmed first (pre-recorded), and You're So Vain was later
performed later on the show itself.
Interesting! Not that I don't believe you, but were did you hear/read that? (I'm always looking for new SNL reading material...)
@@latenightsaturday7142 I remember seeing it when it was on.
Lorne had Franken & Davis include Garrett as Sammy because "Garrett's a littte light this week"
Sammy should make an appearance *every week*! 😅
Paul McCartney and Wings did not preform live.
Damn, it's a parody of the Roman Polanski film Chinatown with Jack Nicholson, not a Broadway show, you really need to do your research before making these video!
You're absolutely correct. I do about 3 days worth of research before I finalize each script, but sometimes when I have to make my own assumptions I get things wrong. (There was a musical from the 20's by the name I referenced. I'm aware of the existence of the film Chinatown, but have not seen it. Obviously, that would've made much more sense than my assumption.)
FWIW, it's not as if I have a handy-dandy synopsis of what the writers inspirations were for each sketch. Sometimes I have to make guesses, and sometimes I get them wrong.
Thanks for pointing out the error, though, and I hope you're enjoying the channel otherwise.
@@latenightsaturday7142 The band aid on Belushi's nose should have been a clue, Nicholson getting his nose sliced in the movie was a famous scene, but fair enough. I have enjoyed your videos, I have been watching the shows on Peacock (I wasn't alive when they first aired then watching your videos after, you were spot on about Louise Lasser, but a bit mean spirited to Dyan Cannon, I will watch more, thanks for responding!
