  • This is video of the demolition of the Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino taken on Wednesday, May 08, 2024. I wasn't planning on doing a video today, but my son called me on his way to school today and said that they started knocking down the old motel rooms at the Tropicana. I decided that I need to come down and check it out. A lot has happened in the 2 days since I was out here. Crews have removed the roof over the valet area at the main entrance of the hotel. It appears they did this so they can push out the debris from inside the rooms above. You can see the Bobcats pushing it out at the beginning of the video. I then make my way down the north end of the building to check out the old motel rooms. You can see the giant piece of equipment jackhammering the building. It's crazy to see how easy that machine can know the building down. Post are still going in around the property so it won't be long before they have all of the construction walls up.

I was able to follow the entire Allegiant Stadium construction because of your vids. And now, I'm going to be able to watch the A's stadium go up too! Thanks Duntov! Keep doing what you're doing. We appreciate it!

I'd be nowhere near that site during demo. Look at the asbestos coating those I beams, not to mention all the silica in the air from the concrete.

They destroyed a Vegas landmark just to play baseball ? Stupidity.

Far, far,far from exciting. Destroying a Las Vegas Landmark to build another worthless stadium. Pathetic.

Well, if someone had actually bothered to properly invest in the resort and throughly renovate it, and foot traffic had actually remained solid there...........then it would have quite likely had a different end fate now, wouldn't it?
Poor foot traffic and lack of upkeep/maintenance equals consequences.

You're a brave man. None of that demo should be happening without a "fan spray" on that dust. Nothing but asbestos going up there! Beyond that, there is no containment or monitoring going on. And let me just say, I don't even live in CA! It sucks to see this beauty go - but at least be respectful to the locals. Be Safe!

Dropping down the Trop wasn't and isn't the smartest idea, there's a lot of empty land from there all the way until that Pinball place.

The ballpark all but certainly won't be built on that site anyway. The safe bet is it remains a fenced-off vacant lot for the better part of a decade (with the only potential prevention of that coming from MGM potentially purchasing the land from Bally's after they sell it soon)
Vegas will definitely get MLB soon enough, but I pretty confidently maintain that ballpark isn't going on that site. Maybe the land adjacent to Rio, maybe even the Wild Wild West site, but not there.

One day after work, I caught the bus at the bus stop in front of Tropicana. The bus got to the stop by motel 6. Some guy got on and started preaching to the people on the bus. The bus driver told him "sit down. People are getting off work. They don’t want to hear that!" 😂😂😂 I used to work at the Showcase UA theatres next to MGM Grand.

I know the strip is always evolving and nothing will stay the same. 30 or so years from now even something like New York New York, the Aria or Cosmo could make way for something bigger, better, grander but it's always sad to see a place like one of the strip originals be demolished, especially just for a place to play baseball.

I was also curious about this. At first they said there wouldn’t be a demolition due to Asbestos. Maybe it passed inspection. I would love to be out there to see it blown up while at the same time being heartbroken it’s coming down.

Tropicana is now proposing a new ballys casino on most of that site. A's stadium status unknown because the a)doesn't have his share or b)too cheap. B) is the common answer for this guy.....low ball everything then charge top 5 for tickets and parking. Take his huge share of MLB share of tv/radio/stream and fund a aaa team salary wise. He is top 5 in profit. Yet cheap in all respects. His share of stadium would bee 500 million(you think he wants to pay a penny??).

Putting a ballark on the Vegas Strip has to be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard! What a waste of valuable strip side real estate! It will sit empty more than it will be used!
and why did they rip out all the palm trees. They are fairly easy to transplant and can be sold for thousands! I know that "thousands" is petty cash for these folks, but have a little respect!

Right? That larger plot of land across west of the Las Vegas South Premium could be ready to build after adding the utilities. It would be more profitable given they could have more room for paid parking.
Unsure why they were in any rush to remove those parking lot palm trees. I know many tree landscapers will remove palm trees for free to resale if not relocating. I personally had such done last year after posting on CL and Offerup.

those walls have awesome stories to tell if they could talk. What is the purpose of a tadium in Vegas? they don't get used much by the teams or the city.. they plan on taking away business from unlv? seems like it. Oh well progress. thanks for the video. thats a long time not being used.

@@JeremySierra there were actually reports saying otherwise. review journal (as well as other publications i’m sure) noted that it was still profitable. yes it was quite empty and dead during its final days, but when management doesn’t care about it anymore when it’s so close to closing, you can’t really say that’s surprising. doesn’t mean it wasn’t still profitable. i, as well as the majority of others, are distraught to see the trop go. vegas has hardly anything sacred left and it’s sad, because the mob casinos were truly the best. vegas should have never become a sports town, it’s just not very unique anymore. i personally am super upset to see such a beautifully vintage building go with so much architectural character

I can’t stand Vegas (‘been there more times than I can count in service of over the last 25 years) but as an outside observer, bringing in the new sports teams is a wonderful addition to the city’s makeup making inroads to a more diverse entertainment metropolis than days of yore. Looking good👌🏽
