    Cheap bagless machines like these just ain't worth fixing. Especially these dirt devils and I still can't believe that they still use paper pleated filters in 2021.

    I bought this vacuum 2 hours ago, got it home and put it together and vacuumed ONE bedroom before it shut off due to overheating. Called the customer service number and the rep told me to stick a broom handle in the hose. Sure enough, hardly anything had made it into the canister. I have ONE cat and he’s not a long haired cat. I’m glad I found your video, it was helpful in understanding what I should be looking for in a vacuum. And it’s not the $60 vac from Walmart. So disappointed but the adage ‘you get what you pay for’ holds true.

      Wow, thanks for sharing that story! I'm glad you found out while it was still within the return window. It's true that you do get what you pay for!
      If you are looking for an upright that is better designed but won't break the bank, my favorite entry level upright is the Simplicity S20EZM (NOT the S20PET). You can pick them up for $229 typically. It's more money, but it is the best sub-$300 upright I have found.

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Theria.
      I had given this answer to another poster who also owns this vac, so I'll just past it here... " I think my main issue is the disposable nature of the machine. As soon as something goes wrong, it is really better to move on given the cost. While this may appropriate for particular circumstances or environments, I think for the majority of households with shedding pets, kids or high traffic this machine is a poor choice."
      I hope that helps explain the perspective I was coming from. Thanks again for watching. Cheers!

    No offense but this is the perfect vacuum for a single person living in a studio or a 1 bedroom apartment with not a lot of foot traffic. I've owned this exact vacuum for about 9 months in a 1 bedroom apartment and I have a cat. I vacuum once a week and I do admit my cat is a Russian short hair and doesn't shed a ton but she still sheds though. This vacuum works perfect for me and has not given me any problems.
    But I do not recommend it for a family or a large house. I'm sure it will give that type of owner trouble because we all know it's cheaply made. Only then would I suggest buying a $200+ vacuum. But not a large living space and not very much foot traffic save your money and get a cheapy like this is my opinion.

What a concept! The only reason I'm here is because after 3 years the belt broke. That's what I get for catching the corner of a blanket.

      Thanks for watching, sorry it was too late! To keep your Dirt Devil trucking, make sure to keep the brushroll clean and clean the filters every 3 months at minimum. Hopefully that should help it last long enough to save up for something a little better. When the time comes, I highly recommend the Sebo Dart as an affordable, long-lasting upright vacuum.
      Thanks again, if you have any questions about your Dirt Devil feel free to reach out!

    Am visiting my parents and dad's VA aide told me about the vacuum spitting the dirt back out.
    Wish I'd found your video.. as it would have helped to see how easily the top connection of that lower hose could be removed. I was afraid I'd damage it, so after having no luck working from where the "attachments" hose releases, had to work from the receiving end of the hose in the base.
    I opened it up... there were about 12 inches of tightly-packed carpet fuzz and random trash in that lower hose.
    After clearing out the lower 4 inches or so, I had to get creative with a wire coathanger...bending the end into a zig-zag that I inserted and twisted to feed it into the mass. What a waste of a morning.
    My own Dirt Devil (different model) does not have the lower hose, so have never had this issue and is a lot easier to clean.
    In any case, the aide's 3-hour-shift was over by the time I got the machine back together. So I vacuumed ONLY the hall and my parents' bedroom... the cup was COMPLETELY FULL... SO, obviously months and months of carpet fuzz and dirt. It was crazy!
    Sometimes you just have to do everything yourself.
    Too bad it's too early for a cocktail! *sigh*
    But it's fixed 'til the next time.

    Ha! I inherited one of these from a tenant who moved out and left it, thinking it did not work. He had the hose connected wrongly, too, resulting in no suction. Didn't matter though. A few months later after very little use, the motor is losing power and smelling like burned plastic or electrical so I'm afraid it's going to the dump. Not worth replacing the motor. Thanks for your video.

    Hi Matt, I could not agree with you more about this machine, but I can see the owners point of view sort of, because I was a person like this customer who would go to Wal-mart to buy a vacuum. I started with the old Hoover uprights from the 60s and 70s and that is what my wife and I had for many years. Then she decided she wanted a Dyson Ball so I went to Wal-Mart and found one on sale. We had the Dyson for about 9 years and she decided she hated it and so I decided to go out and find a really GOOD vacuum. I ended up researching vacuums here on UA-cam and found Riccar, which lead me to my local Riccar dealer here in town, like you and fell in love with my Riccar R40 P6.
    So I guess until people get really fed up with the cheap machines and check out UA-cam or search the web for a really GOOD vacuum and discover a GREAT dealer like yourself or like my dealer in Warren, people will consider COST before QUALITY. People learn though that spending the extra money for a really GREAT QUALITYY machine pays off. Cheap machines cost more in the long run.
    John in Ohio.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  3 роки тому

      Yup, I agree. When you sell high-end vacuums, you are playing the long game. People fix or throw away their cheap vacuums 2 or 3 times before they start looking for something better out of frustration. That's where we come in. Until they are ready, we'll keep fixing the cheap vacs.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  3 роки тому +2

      The lower hose attaches to the nozzle using a press fit... try pulling the two apart while wiggling them back and forth. It's kind of an inexact science. You can always try a little prying with a screwdriver, but be careful not to puncture the hose. Best of luck!

    Well, try figuring this out, I have one of those DD, Power Max machines with the button cord rewind, but anyway, I have checked everything, from the filter, to the hoses, and still there's no suction, but when I pull out the black hose, via the handle/wand, the machine drops sound, meaning there's full suction, which I can test by placing my hand over the end of the handle and it sticks to my hand, but when I slide it back in to the machine slowly, it snatches and then locks into position, and the vacuums pitch increases meaning there is a clog, so I had a look at the white hose coming from the foot, nope not a single clog, the brush area is clean and free from clogs, and yet everything tells me there's a clog between where the hose leaves the foot and enters the bottom of the handle and yet there are no clogs anywhere, I can use the handle and small head attachment and I see the vortex in the dust tank, but re-attach it to the machine, no vortex and dust is pushed out of the front of the machine, I even replaced the entire semi-clear hose, and still no suction at the foot, I even pulled of the entire pipe, and put my hand at the base of where the handle meets the semi-clear hose, and I have full suction, put the semi-clear hose back and no suction.
    My machine is one of those that literally defies reason and logic.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry to hear about the trouble, Terry! Here's a test... unplug your hose, put your vacuum completely vertical with the nozzle unlocked and vertical in line with the body. Now drop a penny through the hose where you plug in your attachments. It should come out in the brushroll chamber. If it doesn't, you've got a plug somewhere in there that you can't see. Hope that helps!

    • @ZargonUSA
      @ZargonUSA 2 роки тому

      @@HouseOfVacuums Thanks for replying, but why would I do that test, when I have 2 brand new hoses, but anyway, thanks for helping, I've since thrown it out, and got a real expensive vacuum that has a 5 year warranty, I got a Shark AV911S robot vacuum, it has a self emptying base, that also charges.
      I'm never going to buy appliances that's under $200, as they say "you get what you pay for", and buying cheap, you get crap.

    I have an issue that the foot pedal to release and recline the vacuum doesn't stay in place, it's loose and wiggles back and forth.
    I have visually inspected it without having taken it apart of course and nothing appears to be broken, I just can't figure out how to tighten it up if at all.

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  Рік тому

      Thanks for the question. The issue is likely that where the pedal clips into the main housing is warn. When the housing wears with usage, it will allow the pedal to pop out on one side. It will look like everything is in place, but the handle either won't lock or wobbles. It is a problem with the housing and given the cost of the machine, it would be best just to live with it until you replace the vacuum.

    I knew it had to be the air pathway design as u mentioned. This vacuum was definitely a let down for me personally. Should have known by the price. • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and the question!
      If the brushroll is not turning, it is likely that the belt is broken and needs replaced.
      If the belt is intact but still not turn it is likely that the belt is stretched and doesn't have enough grip to turn the brushroll. In this case the belt also needs replaced.

    I completely cleaned my Dirt Devil Vigor Cyclonic Pet vacuum. It turned on briefly, then turned off. Now it won't turn on at all😢 . The belt is fine. I don't know how to remove the motor housing. I removed 4 screws that seemed to be what was holding it to the machine, but it won't come off. Any tips would be appreciated so I can troubleshoot it further.....

      Hi Linda! Have you already removed the nozzle housing from the main body? That also retains the motor cover, so it will need to be removed in addition to the 4 screws. Hope that helps!

      The top portion attaches to the lower by twisting them clockwise until they are locked. Are the pieces no longer locking together?

    Nope, these are NOT worth fixing up, you can buy another New one at Walmart for $68 in 2022, if you Really want one. I would buy it as a garage or shop vacuum, because I Don’t care about it.

      Yes, any repair bill on this vac is a tough pill to swallow given the low price point. Cheers!

    Was it really cheaper for the owner to pay for service rather than buy another cheapie?

      Marginally. Our minimum labor charge is $30 which takes care of the unclog. So they are saving about $30 without tax. Is it worth it? I would personally say no, but the customer thought it was.

    I have this vacuum and never had an issue. However, i can't purchase a 500 dyson even though i herd there were incredible.. Do you have any recommendations for a midpoint option? Thanks!

    • @HouseOfVacuums
      @HouseOfVacuums  3 роки тому +2

      Hi There!
      Dysons are really pretty overpriced for what they offer in terms of cleaning. The best cleaning and most reliable affordable upright I have found is the Simplicity S20EZM. It has proven very durable and cleans well. The retail price on this unit is $229.
      Once you go below the $200 price point you see a pretty drastic decrease in performance and reliability.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Dirt devil made some good vacuums in 2000-2011 but their new ones are just awful, I liked the old dirt devil dynamites, dirt devil breeze/featherlites, and the dirt devil visions, I do like their new dirt devil vibe stick vac thing though that they have at target.

      They have certainly gotten worse over time! TTI positioning them as the bargain basement models is what eventually made the quality so poor. Thanks for the comment!

      I say the EnVisions in 2004 or later were REALLY BAD vacuums.

      @@HouseOfVacuums your videos are very informative. One suggestion is to test more mainstream vacuums (not just sharks or dyson but Hoover and more bissell vacuums).

    I wish I could watch this video a few days ago I bought this piece of crap at Walmart cause it was cheap and I could afford a good one or find even a good used shark which I did last time has lasted me for years and they had it for several years for they sold it to me. This thing is so loud that I can’t even vacuum early or late in the evening because it disturbs my neighbors it to the front of the street and I live behind a large house I’m in the second house it is ridiculously loud. Also the gray cord the one you put into the handle the top the bottom 180° turn or 90° where it goes into the canister doesn’t seal all the way so if you look in the back of the vacuum the upper right hand part where it goes into the canister doesn’t seal issues dirt and dust and debris everywhere it literally is horrible horrible and I’m pretty sure that someone had already used it and returned it and I bought a used one Time and that was it after the first time I started reading the reviews and found out how horrible it was it wasn’t just me I got an Amazon and found one that said it was normally 105 on clearance for 69 it’s a Bissell power turbo helix Pat rewind or something along those lines now did have good reviews I pray that it’s good I’m OCD and I got stuck with a whole bunch of cats are my daughter and I can’t handle the hair and the dirtiness of them so I have to vacuum sometimes two hours at a time to vacuum the whole house kitchen living room area I pray it’s a good one thank you for showing this video hopefully it helps a lot of other people not to waste their time and energy money these things like a tinker toys so lightweight my grandson‘s toy vacuum that we got him for Christmas is literally sturdier and better than this dirt devil max pet. I am literally disgusted appalled shocked embarrassed and ashamed for dirt devil that they would even allow their name on such a horrible product seriously you can’t tell me that they can’t do better I’ve never got a vacuum before that every single thing is such cheap plastic is embarrassing I I kinda laughed when I took out the box I laughed at how cheap and flimsy it was I said this is this is a joke. I’ve owned cheap vacuums before cheap Walmart basils Hoover’s dirt devil and I’ve never had one like this ever in my life this is a recent quality issue it’s I think before I got this huge shark and then we bought a new shirt for that I always bought cheap vacuums and never were they this cheap and crappy NEVER!!!

      Sorry to hear it, but it is true that they are not great machines... especially for demanding environment like pet hair or kids. Hang in there and save up for something good... I would suggest a Sebo Dart as a 20 year vacuum that is relatively affordable.

    Says “House of Vacuums” … Vacuum not working.
    Takes apart the filter AND THEN vacuums it clean with another working vacuum. 😂.
    Can’t make this stuff up.

      LOL, yup, I use a vacuum to clean all the other vacuums.
      We use old Miele S2s (Classic C1 now) as our bench vacuums. We use them heavily and often... and they just keep on doing their thing!
