Become A Renaissance Man With 3 Hours/Day
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 тра 2024
- Reaching the ideal of the 'Renaissance Man,' the well-rounded polymath, you don't need to pour in copious amounts of work.
All it takes is three hours a day.
Three hours of focused time will change you forever. Each hour goes to improving a different part of yourself.
Hour 1 is for your health. All the greatest men in history trained their body just as much as their mind. Strength and intelligence were two sides of the same coin. You'll find training you love, and see your athletic side rise to new heights, making the foundation for a long, happy and energetic life.
Hour 2 is for your mind. A proper education is the cornerstone of every polymath, and that means letting your curiosity guide you. Consume. Learn. Discuss. Dive into books. Explore new ideas. Listen to others. This hour is for all things learning, and it's your chance to find what makes your life meaningful.
Hour 3 is for creating. Every great writer, thinker and philosopher spent ages learning, but we only remember them for their creative output. You can stand among them with one hour a day. Find a creative hobby you love, and over time, you'll be producing masterpieces that make you proud.

TIMESTAMPS
00:00-00:57 Your 3-Hour Success Plan
00:57-3:09 Hour 1 - Train
3:09-4:56 Hour 2 - Consume
4:56-8:38 Hour 3 - Create
8:38-9:16 Recap
When I retired I recollected all the people I'd known over the years who died within a few years of retirement. Most of them seemed to have nothing to do but sit around and watch TV. I decided to use my time constructively. I started exercising and lost about 70 pounds in the past three years. I study French everyday. I practice guitar. I study chess. I meditate. My life is full, and I wish there were more hours in the day.
That's inspiring, so glad to hear it
Me too! I've been painting, focusing on my health and challenging myself physically. It's an amazing life in retirement if we follow this advice.
I met a guy who at 104 was still planning ahead.
Would recommend to others to play n learn chess
The biggest thing is DONT JUST READ SELF IMPROVEMENT BOOKS. You're not a polymath if all you read are books on productivity and stoicism.
Yep. They're a good entry point, but just the tip of the iceberg
Three hours a day is tough unless you’re single (and childless) or only working 9-5, but the principles here are spot on and can be scaled to anyone’s schedule. And of course, there’s always the weekend.
True, and that's the idea. It can be 20 mins each, or as many hours as you want!
The average person spends 5 hours per day on screens, so...
When I drove a truck I would have my consumption compliment my creativity. I would listen to an audiobook or podcast and then spend time driving in silence contending with the ideas I just listened to.
acording to Brian Tracy, reading an hour a day will give you aproximately 1 book a week. Now if each book is on the topic you're trying to master (for example something that would make you better at your job or take you to the next level) then you would read aproximately 50 books a year on your topic. that is the equivelent of a degree in that erea. and if you persist in this for three years, you will actually be a leading authority in your field. another aproach can be audiobooks instead of music.
@@aarontkacheve4595 Sorry, but this just shows me that you don't have much experience in the real world. There's more to excelling at career than reading a bunch of books.
1:35 - “We treat the body rigorously so that it will not be disobedient to the mind.”
The three habits of successful people: Physical exercise, Reading occupation relevant non-fiction, Meditation
Three skills of cultured people: Dancing (minimum one ballroom and one popular dance), Reading&reciting (maybe even writing) poetry, Playing a musical instrument
Naval on hobbies:
One that makes you money (producing quality things of value)
One that makes you fit (quality time exerting yourself)
One that makes you smarter (consuming quality things of value)
...Really think quality is the key in all three of those. Makes that "consuming isn't cancerous" point more potent.
As someone in their mid-50s who has done this for 35 years, I can assure you that this is The Way. Listing my accomplishments would be bragging, so I won't do that, but I can tell you that creating MECE, paradigmatic approaches to life bear incredible fruit.
I am happy to see it pay off!
I kind of fell into this type of schedule over the years, although the time I spend on each varies. I exercise and stretch in the morning. I spend my breaks and lunch at work reading. I read more when I get home, and I also do various creative projects. Currently I am playing mandolin, but in the past I have written three books, built a dozen bookshelves, and tried (and often failed) at all kinds of other pursuits. I think another part of being a Renaissance Man is trying as many things as possible, whether or not these things are successful. I have never regretted spending time at learning or trying things, even if I was a complete failure at them, but I think I would regret never trying them in the first place.
That's an exciting collection there, and well said too. 'Failing' is just learning -you discover you want something else, and learn some handy skills in the process
This is incredibly insightful. This approach is so much better than the peddled BS on UA-cam. Simple. Appreciate this.
Thanks man, I try not to be repetitive in style.
Man this is a legit framework.
Wow. I’m not used to a UA-cam video being whole and without hype.
Thank you for sharing.
Much appreciated
Great stuff. Love this. No hype
Wow... I just saw this video on my for you page, because I'm trying to improve myself. It's nice to see that we have some real talkers too on this platform, because most of vlogers/bloggers/ you tubers are doing just the same thing. Nobody actually does so much research and has this much knowledge to give it out to the world. I am not from english speaking contries so i hope i wrote this quite understanding. Just wanted to say thank you for your work :)
Thanks, that means a lot. Hope it serves you well!
Thanks for sharing the bit about frustration and imposter syndrome. I set out to make myself a renaissance man when I learned what one was, and that self-skepticism and negative emotion is rough at times. I'm aware that the struggle is good, but when you're in the midst of that struggle, it's easy to forget that it's where you're supposed to be.
Yep, it can be real tough. And even if it doesn't make it any better, it helps to know it's only temporary.
Glad I found this gem of a channel before you blow up! Well done. The exercise and consuming part is something that I’ve slowly arrived at but the creation part is something I couldn’t put my finger on. This video has saved me so much time and truly added value to my life thanks man
Thanks I'm real happy to hear it's helped. Hope you can find some solid direction too!
thank you, this is awesome mate
I can say for certain, watching your videos has over time become part of step 2 for me. Thank you for putting all the effort you do in sharing this wisdom!
As a fitness coach, the first step is almost a default setting in my system. Need to work on step 3, I like to write both prose and verse, though it is done very sporadically. Maybe if I am more consistent with it I might get better at it, which in turn will boost the writing frequency, creating a loop.
Fitness coach! That's cool man. And yeah I reckon you're right with the last part - happens to me. As soon as I start, it gets easier to keep going
I found your channel today. The videos are so relatable, especially this one, as I've a wide variety of interests, and I often find it hard to concentrate on one, while trying to be good at them. Thanks YT for bringing me here. Thank you very much!
Thank you! Hope it goes well
Love your videos. It feels like we are on the journey together, like you are simultaneously reminding yourself of these ideas while communicating them to others. Keep it up brother.
Thank you for this. I always need that reminder to do something creative with what I consume.
Much appreciated
I love this approach. I have a tendency to think more is better and burn out fast, but the more I shift toward daily consistency on things like exercise and challenging the reading the easier and more enjoyable it becomes.
Thank you for this video! It was easy to watch and refreshing, there is a simplicity to it that I love
Thanks man, really appreciate that
The youtube algorithm brought me here and I'm so grateful for that. I can certainly see bright future for your channel man, your content is so inspiring to me! Always keep doing you.
Thanks, that means a lot to here. Good to have you too!
Great content bro. My technique to become a renissance man is: learning philosophy, gym, journaling, memento mori and much others. I idolize Julius Caesar.
Thanks man, strong set too
So simple yet so great for people to begin their journey or continue it in and live a more fulfilled life thank you
Simple things work! Thanks
Inspirational as always! ❤
Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant!!
Thank you
Much appreciated
Awesome video. Gonna try this out. Feels like a perfect blend for my daily routine so far.
Also your editing is really good! keep it up
Cheers, glad you think so. And good luck implementing it.
It's a pitty that you can only hit once the like button. A bunch of thanks, mate! I watched 3/4 videos from your channel and I really found them very instructive and inspiring. I hope to see you soon in new videos.
This is a very interesting plan. I've never seen these ideas expressed in this way. Thanks for your experience.
You’re underrated man, your content is great
Thanks man, appreciate that
Insightful! Thankyou for this video. I hope to implement your advice.
Much appreciated, hope it goes well
I agree with the initial thought and the results it'd bring, but 3 mindful hours per day is a luxury not many have. And it should be mindful, otherwise it'll be useless or even dangerous for health (being slopy and elsewhere while running for example)
But with that - everyone can take his own pace and make it into 3 hours per week or 6 hours per month
The key is consistency
The road to success will be longer but less stressful and far more enjoyable
you have such unique content, thank you!
Much appreciated!
Always inspiring. Great content!
Thanks man, always appreciated
Very inspiring! Thank you
Glad you thought so, thanks
Very Insightful. Thank you.
Thanks, much appreciated
Well thought through and simple to apply - great video!
Thank you
Well done as always. Thanks.
Much appreciated
As of this moment I'm 16 and there are a dozen skills and subjects I wish to become proficient at before attending university. I'll either become a renaissance woman or a female Diogenes.
Best of luck!
During quarantine I got really into cooking from scratch just to have something to do. Now I love cooking this way and just riffing on the spot. I eat much healthier as a consequence and feel much more self reliant.
That's great, I did the same in college. Such a useful skill to have
I love my ready-made rubs and marinades, but I've had tremendous success making my own marinades. They usually end up tart and twangy from the white vinegar but in a good way. And it is just riffing. Scrambling around grabbing things with potent flavors and throwing them in the mixing bowl. Hell, I even threw some cherry Coke in one of them for sweet filler. Worked just fine.
Wild the body and civilize the mind. Great video.
Amen to that, and thanks
Thank you for this awesome video, I must subscribe to this man
Thanks man, good to have you
this feels like one of those youtube videos that changes your entire life. i've been going down that self improvement rabbit hole and this is one of the best videos ive seen
Wow that means a lot. I just hope it can serve as a basic plan for people starting off. Thanks!
As someone also going down the self improvement rabbit hole, I have to agree. It reminds me of an acronym I heard long ago. KISS= Keep it simple, stupid. It's a bit harsh but it's a reminder that we as humans have a tendency to be stupid/irrational and overcomplicate things. It seems like the best self improvement ideas are simple systems or tips.
I really loved your approach so true we are becoming modern but should also keep on learning about the fundamentals to live life from these philosophers.
Yep, they're famous because they're timeless
this video is genuenly insanely amazing
Simple and Sophisticated, well done man.
Thanks
Thanks!
Thank you!
I know exactly what you’re saying. I try to do this with my own channel by posting daily. Keep up the good work man.

Thanks, and hope it goes well for you too
@@odysseas__ Thanks!

Thanks
Amazing amazing
I very much agree and resonate with us I'm also an artist, dancer, music producer and I have soooo many interests In science, analytical psychology and anthropology ❤keep sharing amazing knowledge ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very enjoyable video - love the plan to be the best you can be - not immediately but as a goal - sweet 👍
Much appreciated
💚💚💚💚thanks💚💚💚💚
I love learning a new skills and used to love going to the gym but my current work situation has only made it harder to commit to those things, I know it’s a bit of a meme at this point but steady common exercise will help not only physically but helps so much more mentally than you could ever realize
It's true. If I'd only pick one of these three, it would be exercise, just to not go insane
Nicely done!
Much appreciated!
Not going to lie... 3 hours is a lot, especially if you sleep and work and have a family life.
You can always scale it up or down as you go, no problem
Good vid man. Great flow
Thanks
One of the best videos I have ever watched.
Thanks!
I was actually thinking about how good the quality of your editing was before you mentioned it.
Thanks!
Thanks mate this video was great
Cheers, hope it helps
Massive help and a beautifully simple approach. I think I’ve instinctively strived to be a Renaissance Man my whole adult life but strangely never heard the term or if I had, forgot. This was motivation and a reminder to practice drawing, guitar, French, boxing and other things I do, not occasionally but rather every day.
@@kelvinbuchanan1763 Yep, at the end of the day, it's only a title for something much more interesting and varied. Cool set of skills there too -good luck!
I put this video on my Polymath playlist. Thank you for making this beneficial video!
Can you share it??
Happy to hear that! Thanks
Share it brother in this section.
Share it
Make it public please
that was awesome and helpful braaa
Thanks, hope it helps
Damn, man, this video was so sick! I have questions, does learning a language count as learning and creating?
Thanks! Any yeah for sure. It's hard to lump it in either, but it has a lot of depth and meaning to it which makes it a great choice
I don't know how can I see this video. I'm a student ,and I need a director to achieve what I looking for and you gave me a great idea so I feel grateful for that. Thank you :D
Much appreciated, so glad to hear that
Knowledge plus understanding equals wisdom
See you can have all the knowledge of Tony Stark or anyone else but if you have no understanding you might as well not have wasted your time in the first place
I’ve already got 1 and 2. Gotta pick the guitar up again to get my #3…
Cool stuff
The most frequent comment I hear "I would never guess you did those things, you don't look like that 'type'."
I have longevity in life, I have far more runway behind than in front of me. I'm content with my journey but understand God's not done with me yet.
Your video is such an excellent summation and truly is a guidance tool, going to share it with others and add it to my Motivational playlist. When people ask me what I do to stay so happy and easy-going, I explain I searched for things to do that touch my mind, body and interests that don't require me bothering others.
Journaling
Juggling [Learning]
Reading Philosophy [Stoicism]
Cooking [Learning]
Flower garden
Financial Investment [Learning]
I don't drink, smoke or date, yet I feel content.
Simple life!
Nice work
Cheers
I admire your brain, sir.
Haha nothing crazy here, thanks though
This ideal reminds me of Confucius' concept of the ideal person, or junzi, skilled in the Six Arts: writing, math, poetry, ritual (spirit, religion), charioteering, and archery. In other words, sound of mind, body and soul.
Interesting to see how it's tailored to the time he lived
It's not tailored; it's timeless: writing, math and poetry are the core of what we now call a 'liberal arts' education. Religion and spirituality are timeless too. The only things that are perhaps tailored are charioteering and archery, but even these represent exercise and sport. The beautiful thing is that Confucius believed that these junzi should be the ones who lead and rule, not aristocrats or strongmen.@@odysseas__
Good stuff sir
Thanks
Thanks for the video. Any recommendations for proper consumption?
I appreciate it. I try to consume the best work, and from people I respect or wish to be more like. Or maybe something I need to work on.
Much love and success
Who is ready for this ⬇️
One should have minimum three pursuits. One for body, One for mind, and One for the spirit/soul.
Brother you have great content
Man I know this feeling of things being too hard or that it seems that way
Most important is being active and doing something good for oneself
Thanks man, and well said. You just have to stay in motion
@@odysseas__ I hope you continue doing this content
A little bit sense and the opposite of cancel culture and the other …
Is very needed
@@knw-seeker6836 For sure, I enjoy making it
Hi! Beautiful video! I have a question for you: do you think that activities that stimulate the mind like chess, are in the consume or in the create category?
Thanks, I appreciate that. Sounds like it would be closest to 'creating' since you're practicing a skill. The result is better gameplay.
@@odysseas__ thank you, continue the good work you're doing.
Love the ideal of the Renaissance Man! 3 Hours is far from realistic for me, but one can always try to aim high
Glad to hear, and the great thing is you can scale it up or down to suit your schedule the best.
I’ve done something similar and it works. I hope people follow this.
That's awesome to hear
Big brother u earn one subscriber by telling me " Devil in detail" and " that seek man wish info" those are very wise sentences.....❤
Thanks, good to have you
Splendid! I'll give it a go.
What's left to lose, after all the time l wasted on not having a clear routine?
Good luck!
Are you Greek? Nice video btw, you gained my subscription
I am, even though I have no accent. Thanks too, good to have you
You just won a fan.
Good to have you!
Bro out here with the double pop filter
Great video
Haha yep, first one wasn't doing the job. Thanks too
To know what makes excellence, you have to consume what makes excellence.
Amen
3 hours is better than no hours, but an hour is not enough for deep work.
Then do more
Cool
Which application\ program do you use to edit?
Premiere pro
Hey I am 20 years old, will be 21 in April. I am going to start doing this and I'll update you after sometime time. I'm going to change my life.
Good luck!
Sir please guide me how we can establish numerous critical questions during reading and also in class
Critical thinking is a big topic, but it all comes down to weighing up the point and examining each part close, then asking questions.
What's being said?
Is it accurate?
What if this and that...?
What context is it said/written?
Stuff like that
🤩🤩🤩❤🔥❤🔥OH YEAAAAAAAA
Thanks man
Wow. Wow. Wow. This is on point! I could relate to the mental masturbation comment at times in my life. Train, Consume and create! Yes. And that's only 3 hours of our day!
TLDR: Thank you for putting together this video, I think this is something I really needed to hear. I can't wait to try your framework.
This has certainly given me some food for thought. I am freelancing in web development, studying web development, reviewing calculus before entering university later this year, I practice two sports, play the piano (though it's been gathering dust lately) and try to get to the gym 1-3x per week. Not to mention, I also have duties towards my family and other chores to do... All that is to say, I have been overwhelmed lately trying to balance it all. However, your video has made me realize something. All these activities should not be isolated, but rather should be considered collectively in light of some... ideal. It's not just checking items off a list, it's knowing where you want to go and putting in the work to get there. I had never heard of the "Renaissance Man" before, but it is definitely something that appeals to me. I believe it will be useful to adopt your framework in order to prioritize certain activities over others, and attempt to do less but with more intention.
You've earned yourself a new subscriber : )
Thanks and that's great stuff, I respect it. It's far from easy, but the only way you truly fail is if you stop trying altogether.
I plan to look into how we can make it more realistic in a busy everyday context, but for now, I hope it works well for you
My problen is on how to keep interested in the stuff I have started learning.
I have that too -will definitely make a video on it. I found that the best hobbies or skills will stick at least.
I really want to have friends who are really interested in similar topics and try to be closer to generalist, polymath, renaissance people)
I am 20 years old, male, Ukraine.
Therefore, if you would like to meet, write a comment here :)
I want to be a renaissance man.
Anyone can, good luck!
this channel's videos reminds me of early 2010's School of life's channel, except that instead of becoming an Uberman is a Renaissance Man
Edit: meant to say ubermensch not an Ubber-man, lol
What are your fitness hobbies??
Gym and walks. Sprints and stair climbs too sometimes
Do you consider your work on UA-cam as your creative outlet, or you have something else?
Right now, yep, mainly because it takes up a lot of time. My other big one is writing.
Its crazy how much jobs keep people from evolving /innovation/ emergence
It's true, and a huge shame. It's what made me believe so hard in buying back time.
Best violin piece you can play so far?
My recent favourite is 'Do you hear the people sing'
In self help community consuming means watching tiktok, shorts etc.
Basically tasks that has no value in the long term.
Good consumption is intentional. You have to find the right things, and have the will to use them.
For me, a lot of consumption is mindless but not all. I am able to listen to podcasts at work and most are somewhat educational. I've found interviews and group discussions (anything besides one person talking) to be the most helpful. They're mostly mental health related, philosophy related, or general self-improvement like interviewing successful people with an occasional entertainment type podcast thrown in.
Yes, I'm often distracted by my work and have to mentally refocus back to the podcast from time to time. With that said, I'm still able to pick up bits of useful information and occasionally experience mindset shifts from hard hitting or personally relevant quips.
I wondered what kind of videos inspire you in the playlist on 4:19. Why so much police activity videos :v
Haha don't get me wrong I also like to be entertained. They're interesting too, for seeing what officers have to go through.
