Jason hello mate, I been looking trough your tutorials for a illustrator tutorial for when you use a drawing tablet (like Wacom) but been unable to find one, is this one you could make? I mean if you use one yourself that is :)
Make sure you are using the knife tool and not the slice tool. Knife will be in the same menu as your eraser/scissor. If if is not cutting using the knife make sure you have selected the the shape and gone all the way through to enclose the shape you want to change. Usually the knife doesn't go all the way through 2 edges and that is why it doesn't color.
