AWESOME!!!! In the 70s and early 80’s, the great guitar players went to rock and metal bands and the great bass players went to funk and disco. Thank you for sharing this one, it looks like it’s going to be fun. Cheers
Perfect! You nailed it. Along with Thelmas voice its the bass line that drives this song. Its disappointing watching recent clips of Thelma singing this and whilst her voice is still perfect the safe bass lines used really take the edge off the performances.
Thank you very much. I'm curious about these live performances you mentioned. I'm going to search around. It'll be interesting to hear those bass lines. Thanks!
Disco had a few very fine tunes, this was one of them. I remember this song from the day, fun times here in Colorado, dancing hard with the girlfriend post college. The bass lines are driving the song throughout and this cover is exceptional playing. Kudos to a rendition very well done!
Well played Craig beautiful bass beautiful Tone , that tune is an absolute BANGER OF A GROOVE 🙏🔥🔥🔥🏴 There is only one kind of bass for playing these grooves PBASS
Hey Basshead, thanks very much :) It's actually Greg, but no worries. I've been called worse ;) I agree, this is a "banger of a groove". This one was fun to learn and play. It can even be done on a JBass....cheers!
Greg, I love that you do these types of songs, with lots of variations and changes to document. It’s gotta be a challenge to transcribe, but it’s very much appreciated.
@@BassCovers I just watched the new 3-part PBS documentary "Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution," and this song is discussed therein. The outstanding bass playing in the original track caught my ear, and that's what brought me to your video.
Watching this guy play those baseline while reading gives a newer respect for the creator of those baseline notes that where written by the artist them selves.Remarkable.
Has anybody mentioned yet that this bassline was originally done by the late *Hank Davis* from LTD? That Kat had one of the best P Bass sounds around (along with Paul Jackson) You could also hear Hank’s work on Diana Ross‘s; _Love Hangover,_ Alphonse Mouzon’s; _Mind Transplant_ and So many others..
I'm so glad I found this. Now I can tackle this song. You play it amazingly well. Front pickup only? It sounds a little bit like a P Bass . I don't know what Henry Davis was playing. It also sounds like he played it with a pick. Is that possible?
Thank you very much. I used both pickups. I'm not sure what kind of bass Henry used either? No, I don't think he used a pick, but I'm not completely sure? Good luck with this and have fun...thanks!
Great rendition. This bass line in this song has always caught my attention. I’m trying to learn it now. Did you start off slow and sped up the tempo as you get the notes down, or how did you start off with your learning this classic?
Hi Nathan, thank you for the comment and question. I usually start learning a song by playing it from beginning to end no matter how rough it is. Then I keep going back and finding the places that I need to tighten up. When I'm tightening things up I have a few different techniques that I use. Slowing down and looping the problem spots, holding and adding one note at a time to a part and also playing the song with just a metronome or drum machine at different tempos. I hope this answers your questions and helps. Thanks again :)
Really impressive work, have you listened through the James Jamersons bass lines on the Whats going on album? The song Save the Children in particular is one of those songs that I would really appreciate if someone made tabs too, its just that good, but pretty complicated to figure out :)
Hi, thanks for the comment and request. I'm not familiar with the entire album, but I'm curious to check it out. Unfortunately though, I really only have time for my "paid supporter" requests at this time...thanks :)
Hey Dennis, thanks man :) This one had some spots that were hard to hear... I may have taken some liberties? ;) haha...I wish I had my dog here to help me. I miss the little guy :( Thanks!
hey Lee! Thanks very much :) I had a listen to the song and it sounds like a good one, however, I really only have time for my "paid supporter" requests at the moment...thanks :)
Wow, I don't think I ever heard of Henry Davis but definitely have heard him. He played on Diana Ross' Love Hangover (talk about saying a lot with a little) and this disco gem from his band L.T. D. ua-cam.com/video/eXpa0Ef25XQ/v-deo.html
A Greg Fairweather cover - a sure sign of quality.
Thanks very much Paul. I really appreciate that...thanks :)

I can only aspire to play that well. Just Great! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
FANTASTIC, DIDN'T KNOW THIS SONG HAD SUCH BASS PLAYING MOVEMENT!
It's kind of famous for it's bass part. It's a really good bass line he came up with. Thanks!
Most excellent. I originally had to play this song at 0.75 speed, but have since increased to normal speed. Masterpiece. Thanks Greg.
That's great to hear Mark. I really like that you've worked your up to accomplish what you set out to do...good for you :)
Disco is always slagged, but there were some DEADLY bass lines in some of them.
This is one of them.
Hey Oliver, yes, some disco songs had some really good bass lines! Thanks for the comment :)
Yes. Disco is absolutely not my thing, but as a bassist I love disco basslines.
Yeah, this is absolutely deadly.
Incredible cover! Thanks so much. Always amazes me how much work bass players from this era put in!
Disco was a great era for bass playing. So much fun to play! Glad you like it...thanks for the comment :)
Awesomely done!! Bravo!! One of the great bass lines of the 70’s.
Thanks a lot!
🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank you so much Greg. Awesome job!!!
My pleasure Korab ;) Glad you like it :)
Ha! Another great song with a fantastic bassline! Why don't we just go through the entire 70's disco catalogue lol
haha...totally :)
Ainda vou tocar assim, muito top.

Hey Jerry, thanks! I'm glad it brings back some fond memories :)
Hi greg, one of my favorite disco tracks. I hope i can play it. Thanks
Best of luck :)
Nice job! A lot of movement in this one. i've been playing the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes version. Much more simple! Again ,great job!
Thanks! I need to check out Harold Marvin's version.

Thx for posting this Greg ! Great help, just purchased the tab a few minutes ago. Cheers and Season's Greetings !

Killin as always Greg! 👍🏾🙏🏿😊
Hey Trevor...thanks man :) I'm sure you've played this one a time or two? ;)
Greg Fairweather Hey, Greg, I did back in day. Showing my age now! 😂🙏🏿

Amazing!!!!
thanks David :)
Walk that bass! Thanx!
hehe...you bet :)
Great job Greg! I like how this 70s disco bass line used the root/octave sparingly.
hey Midas! Thanks man :) I can't tell if you're joking or not? I guess he didn't use the root/octave as much as on some other tunes?

Greg Fairweather yup Henry Davis,-Hank Davis,… Tomāto, tomãto, etc,..lol (nickname was Hank)
That was great, and looked like fun. If you transcribed it, that's even better.
Hey Tony...thank you :) It was fun and yes, I transcribed it ;)
That’s brilliant- thanks,

In the pocket! Not an easy song. Love the tone on that Fender J.

Wow, really appreciate this lesson . I got to look in my closet for those old platform disco boots. Lol
haha...you haven't been around long enough to own a pair of those shoes have you? :) Thanks Dennis ;)
Unfortunately or fortunately yes, I have been around, some folks say too long.lol
Thank you for this. Due to the bass line, this song is the only one I actually liked from the disco era.
You're welcome :) Ya, it's a good line he came up with.
I just played the song again on the five string. Helps to have F and G on the B string. But the song was originally played on a four string.
Hey Mark, yes I think it was on a 4 string originally too. I don't think the police will be coming to pick you up for playing it on a 5 string :P
@@BassCovers The police showed up but let me go when I showed them how easy to play on a five.
haha...very good :)

Do you think you'd have the time to do tabs for any Suicidal Tendencies songs? "Lost Again" would be awesome👌🏼
Hi Janski, thank you for the request, but I don't think I will have time :(
Dude, you are amazing! Can you do the greatest bass line (in my opinion) Kalimba Story but EWF? Verdine White is that dude!
