All Sonic fans born in 2000 love Shadow The Hedgehog because he was like Vegeta but even cooler. His color scheme and his mysterious back story, the whole " Am I the original or am I a robot". Its just really cool in general.
I think you forgot to mention SONIC FREAKIN' RUSH for the DS, that game was so freakin' awesome and good. Also there's Sonic Generations for the 3DS, it's a 2D Sidescrolling game with classic levels from past Sonic games, Greetings

also, i think this game needs some love. the year: 2008, the game: Sonic Unleashed!, the reason? ok, before i continue, i get why "fans" hated the game at first: the werehog. i get it: it slowed down the game, it was a platform game, it was a, quote by the "fans", "god of war" clone (still don't get that), i get that! but when you have the day sections go from 1 mph to "HOLY SHIT, HOW DO YOU SLOW THIS THING DOWN!?" mph, the night time stages were a blessing for gamers. and fine, i'll be that fan: i liked the night stages more. now i'm not saying i didn't like the day stages (loved them), but it was nice to explore and relax and beat the crap out of baddies. heck! i think Sonic Unleashed had a good fighting mechanic for a sonic game. and i do love me some werewolves, so that was a plus when i heard this was made. much better than those Twilight Teddy bears. not to mention guys, it sparked the "we need to bring sonic to his roots" moment at Sega since the day stages were alot faster than previous games before it. so fans of the blue blur, be nicer to this game. i know many fans have over the years, but come on guys~ we need to embrace this game for what it is: a great Sonic game.
yeah! ... well~ honestly, i played the PS2 version, so i never got to walk around the towns and such, but i understand what you mean. but i mainly like it because of the werehog. as i said, the slow down sections were a nice breather from the rest of the game, the game ran very well for a PS2 game with the new consoles came out and i did like the cutscenes with Robotnic, sonic and even chip, he wasn't that annoying compared to past sidekicks.
I thought Chip was a pretty likable new character as well. I found him funny and had a good chemistry with Sonic. Too bad Sonic team always tosses the baby out with the bath water after every failed new reboot.
orwell9788 New reboot? The last reboot was in 98 (Adventure 1). Anyway I like Unleashed and certainly appreciate that it came after one of the franchises most horrible games. And while I don't hate the Werehog, it was unnecessary for sure. Reportedly only being there to make the game longer, which it did. I will say though, the Werehog was actually a pretty decent beat em up. Had an extensive combo list and controlled pretty decently. The stages themselves could drag on a bit, but it was solid for the most part. I also loved that Unleashed brought this crazy new sense of speed, however that, as many many other things, is divisive amongst the fanbase.
For me pretty much: Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 2, Colors, Generations, and Adventure 1. Each bring out something memorable in terms of levels, game-play, characters and sometimes dialog if any. Fun video :3

Colors DS was alright, it's pretty much Rush without the Trick system. Generations 3DS wasn't too impressive but it does have the better Time Eater bossfight Lost World 3DS is what I found to be a great game though most people would say the opposite, so take my opinion with a grain of salt

yeah, I'm one of those Shadow fans, just without the creepy fanart lol. I loved his solo game, and I love the arcs in Sonic Universe that focus on him. I played Sonic Generations on Steam.
I was really hoping you would mention Sonic Unleashed in the list, it changed history too. It was the first time Sonic transformed into another animal that may resemble a hedgehog, although not technically one. A werehog is a thing, totally different species of animal, completely new and what not xD But I think any Sonic fan should definitely play 06 because I feel it's like the right of passage every fan must go through in order to have fully lived through the times of Sonic within just playing that game amongst the others.....and then bash on it and find all sorts of glitches like the rest of us (even though I have never played 06, or even Colors for that matter)

I honestly feel that sonic unleashed was a very essential game in the sonic franchise. Sonic unleashed pointed out what sonic fans wanted more then anything else from sonic team, they wanted sonic to go fast. Where the night sections were slow and full of epic fighting and platforming, the day sections were full of adrenaline pumping break neck speed. Both of these sections were good in there own right, but how many people do you know say they liked the night stages more than the day stages? The day stage formula brought a whole new perspective on how sonic should play, and sega knows this. I see that you put Generations and Colors up high on the list, but let me ask of you, how did they get up there?

I actually grew up the SNES and only saw posters for Sonic 2 when I was little but earlier this year I've gotten into Sonic's library and I've just had a ball with them. I jumped on the bandwagon at the perfect time cause I get all this interesting mythology and play cousins like you talking about. You rock Andre.

Sonic Rush mattered a lot to me because it introduced one of the few Sonic characters that mattered a great deal, Blaze the Cat. I just wish she had a better 3D debut that wasn't Sonic 06.
KikBlava I had two "honorable mentions" that were cut for time, and Sonic Rush was one of them because of the introduction to Blaze the Cat as part of the "new" version of Sonic Advance. The other was Sonic Lost World for being the first Sonic game with Nintendo-based DLC.
Black Nerd Comedy Now that you mentioned Lost World, I love the brief Zelda DLC but goddamn it, that entry really frustrated me to no end, a massive step down from Generations. But when Boom came out I suddenly feel as if I was a bit harsh on it. Not sure if I should play it again.
Blaze isn't popular enough to be in the 3D games. She's cool but she will probably have to compete with Knuckles and Shadow for a spot and she will not win.
Steve Spud She was popular enough to be in Sonic Generations along with Team Chaotix. Thankfully the Sonic Riders characters weren't popular enough for Generations.
KikBlava She only appeared in Sonic Generations cause she was a part of Sonic's history and the Rush games are canon since they introduced her. She is popular sure but not enough to make a top 5 list.
Sonic Colors n=makes me shed tears of joy just explaining how much I loved it. It was(dare I say) COLORFUL, good presentation, the level designs were unpredictable in a good way,the music was just BEAUTIFUL, and the wisps were a cute little addition to the Sonic Universe, like it was competing with the items in Mario, only colorful and had a little of their own personalities. also the announcer is awesome. I really loved the original Sonic. As far as the newer ones, Sonic Adventure 2 was special to me because it was one of my original 3 dreamcast games.(The others were Evolution and Phantasy Star Online) I later purchased it for the gamecube after my original disc broke. Sonic Unleashed was actually really enjoyable and I loved the soundtrack. If anything besides Sonic Boom, the Sonic games always had great music.
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Gamecube was the first Sonic game that I owned (chill play-cousins, I played the Genesis ones too) and it has left an impact on me to this day. The music, the gameplay, the story, EVERYTHING. Pure nostalgia goodness and it will always have a place in my heart. And yeah, you do not fuck with Shadow fans....
What a unique list. Pretty good job, Andre. The games that I think fans would like are Sonic Rush, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and Sonic Unleashed. Those are just my opinions though. If anyone else thinks otherwise, that's okay with me. ;)
I personally love "Sonic Battle" for the Gameboy Advanced (2014 is its ten-year anniversary actually!). Though I don't play it constantly like I did back in 2004-2005, whenever I come back to it every so often, I still have a blast in the multiplayer.

Bit biased from all the time spent playing on it after School. 4) Sonic Unleashed. You can't deny that the daytime levels weren't awesome. I'll admit the Werehog sections were...Tedious. But Unleashed was a return to form. 5) Generations. Just all my dreams come true.
Sonic Adventure DX for Gamecube was the first Sonic game I played as a child and it was really good! I really want them to HD that game for PS4 and Xbox One. The music was fantastic and everything about that game was freaking awesome!
Im one of those Shadow fans but I like the first sonic adventure more than the second mostly for nostalgia reasons. The second one wad more fun but the stages in the first one like the beach one when the orkas busy through the floor while your running is still one of my fave sonic moments period. Plus those Choas in the Dreamcast vmu, good times.
Shadow was actually supposed to be in Brawl :3 They didn't enough time for development, so they saved his character model, and used his would-be final smash Chaos Control. THE MORE YOU KNOW
I think Unleashed is an important game in Sonic's history. It finally settled on a nice, cartoony art style (notice the difference between 06's Sonic model and Unleashed's Sonic model, Unleashed's Sonic has a much friendlier design). Other stuff too, such as getting the gameplay super right and the plot, but I feel the art style was the most important component of Unleashed.
I think that the sonic game for the app store is THE most influential game. Not only does it introduce a new level mechanic but a completely original one!!! Can't believe you didn't mention it!

Colors was cool, but unleashed was my fav sonic game ever. I loved the actual SUPER speed. Like that was the first time you could use the ring energy to go fast AF.

I'd say unleashed also changed the history quite a lot. it introduced the 2/3D hybrid gameplay used in colors and generations, after all. But when it comes to sonic games i'd recommend... I actually made a list recently of a few and gave it to a friend of mine (since we've been talking about getting her to play 06, she figures she should play good ones first). and I said to try Colors, Genrations, Rush, Rush, Unleashed, and Shadow. 'Course, the genesis platformers are all great too, so i also told her about the sonic mega collection for gamecube as a nice starting point.
Sonic battle for the GBA. That game was pretty awesome given that is was the closest game we got to a portable smash bros... But with sonic characters and you get to make your own fighter with the robot.

Never forget the yellow spring stages, SO FUCKING SLOW! I found them alright in Colors but completely unnecessary in Lost World.

I was really hoping you would mention Sonic Unleashed in the list, it changed history too. It was the first time Sonic transformed into another animal that may resemble a hedgehog, although not technically one.
A werehog is a thing, totally different species of animal, completely new and what not xD
But I think any Sonic fan should definitely play 06 because I feel it's like the right of passage every fan must go through in order to have fully lived through the times of Sonic within just playing that game amongst the others.....and then bash on it and find all sorts of glitches like the rest of us (even though I have never played 06, or even Colors for that matter)

I honestly feel that sonic unleashed was a very essential game in the sonic franchise. Sonic unleashed pointed out what sonic fans wanted more then anything else from sonic team, they wanted sonic to go fast. Where the night sections were slow and full of epic fighting and platforming, the day sections were full of adrenaline pumping break neck speed. Both of these sections were good in there own right, but how many people do you know say they liked the night stages more than the day stages?
The day stage formula brought a whole new perspective on how sonic should play, and sega knows this. I see that you put Generations and Colors up high on the list, but let me ask of you, how did they get up there?

I actually grew up the SNES and only saw posters for Sonic 2 when I was little but earlier this year I've gotten into Sonic's library and I've just had a ball with them. I jumped on the bandwagon at the perfect time cause I get all this interesting mythology and play cousins like you talking about. You rock Andre.

Sonic Rush mattered a lot to me because it introduced one of the few Sonic characters that mattered a great deal, Blaze the Cat. I just wish she had a better 3D debut that wasn't Sonic 06.
KikBlava I had two "honorable mentions" that were cut for time, and Sonic Rush was one of them because of the introduction to Blaze the Cat as part of the "new" version of Sonic Advance. The other was Sonic Lost World for being the first Sonic game with Nintendo-based DLC.
Black Nerd Comedy Now that you mentioned Lost World, I love the brief Zelda DLC but goddamn it, that entry really frustrated me to no end, a massive step down from Generations. But when Boom came out I suddenly feel as if I was a bit harsh on it. Not sure if I should play it again.
Blaze isn't popular enough to be in the 3D games. She's cool but she will probably have to compete with Knuckles and Shadow for a spot and she will not win.
Steve Spud She was popular enough to be in Sonic Generations along with Team Chaotix. Thankfully the Sonic Riders characters weren't popular enough for Generations.
KikBlava She only appeared in Sonic Generations cause she was a part of Sonic's history and the Rush games are canon since they introduced her. She is popular sure but not enough to make a top 5 list.
Sonic Colors n=makes me shed tears of joy just explaining how much I loved it. It was(dare I say) COLORFUL, good presentation, the level designs were unpredictable in a good way,the music was just BEAUTIFUL, and the wisps were a cute little addition to the Sonic Universe, like it was competing with the items in Mario, only colorful and had a little of their own personalities. also the announcer is awesome. FRENZY!

As far as the newer ones, Sonic Adventure 2 was special to me because it was one of my original 3 dreamcast games.(The others were Evolution and Phantasy Star Online)
I later purchased it for the gamecube after my original disc broke.
Sonic Unleashed was actually really enjoyable and I loved the soundtrack. If anything besides Sonic Boom, the Sonic games always had great music.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Gamecube was the first Sonic game that I owned (chill play-cousins, I played the Genesis ones too) and it has left an impact on me to this day. The music, the gameplay, the story, EVERYTHING. Pure nostalgia goodness and it will always have a place in my heart.
And yeah, you do not fuck with Shadow fans....

The games that I think fans would like are Sonic Rush, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and Sonic Unleashed. Those are just my opinions though. If anyone else thinks otherwise, that's okay with me. ;)
I personally love "Sonic Battle" for the Gameboy Advanced (2014 is its ten-year anniversary actually!).
Though I don't play it constantly like I did back in 2004-2005, whenever I come back to it every so often, I still have a blast in the multiplayer.

1) Sonic 2. *Nostalgia points*
2) Sonic Adventure 2, my most favorite 3D Sonic game(Adventure was still good).
3) Sonic Heroes. Bit biased from all the time spent playing on it after School.
4) Sonic Unleashed. You can't deny that the daytime levels weren't awesome. I'll admit the Werehog sections were...Tedious. But Unleashed was a return to form.
5) Generations. Just all my dreams come true.

Sonic Adventure DX for Gamecube was the first Sonic game I played as a child and it was really good! I really want them to HD that game for PS4 and Xbox One. The music was fantastic and everything about that game was freaking awesome!

Im one of those Shadow fans but I like the first sonic adventure more than the second mostly for nostalgia reasons. The second one wad more fun but the stages in the first one like the beach one when the orkas busy through the floor while your running is still one of my fave sonic moments period. Plus those Choas in the Dreamcast vmu, good times.

I think Unleashed is an important game in Sonic's history. It finally settled on a nice, cartoony art style (notice the difference between 06's Sonic model and Unleashed's Sonic model, Unleashed's Sonic has a much friendlier design). Other stuff too, such as getting the gameplay super right and the plot, but I feel the art style was the most important component of Unleashed.
I think that the sonic game for the app store is THE most influential game. Not only does it introduce a new level mechanic but a completely original one!!! Can't believe you didn't mention it!

Colors was cool, but unleashed was my fav sonic game ever. I loved the actual SUPER speed. Like that was the first time you could use the ring energy to go fast AF.
I loved the PC game Sonic Racer. I workout to the "Super Sonic Racer" song whenever I go to the gym. The game was ok, if was on another system it would rock hard in sales.

I'd say unleashed also changed the history quite a lot. it introduced the 2/3D hybrid gameplay used in colors and generations, after all. But when it comes to sonic games i'd recommend... I actually made a list recently of a few and gave it to a friend of mine (since we've been talking about getting her to play 06, she figures she should play good ones first). and I said to try Colors, Genrations, Rush, Rush, Unleashed, and Shadow. 'Course, the genesis platformers are all great too, so i also told her about the sonic mega collection for gamecube as a nice starting point.
Sonic battle for the GBA. That game was pretty awesome given that is was the closest game we got to a portable smash bros... But with sonic characters and you get to make your own fighter with the robot.
