We always made it a happy event and treat-trained our dogs and we always were happy to see them when we arrived home. Our expression is, "Get in your house." And they would always trot into their crates without issue. One day our black lab opened his door into his "house" and curled up on his blanket munching on his treats.

For my pup, I keep the crate door open during the day and my dog goes in when he wants to rest. He knows he is not trapped. At night I lock the door behind him.

I threw a nice blanket and a dog need in my dogs crates, then chucked in a few dog treats and left my dogs discover the crates for themselves, no lead, no forcing, didn't I just them to it. They love their crate now, nice and comfy and I don't need to put treats in at all for them to use it.

So I had gotten 2 4 month old puppies non crate trained. What I did was I put down a nice soft bed for them inside and I placed them in. They started crying so I placed a blanket over the crate indicating that it’s time for them to lay down. The dark is a sign of bedtime of course afterwards I put on soft calm piano music (calming slow music can help with dogs separation anxiety and help calm them when stressed, anxious, or feeling upset. I learned this from fostering many dogs over the years) and turned it up to a mid level volume and then they layer down and went to sleep. Then this began then understanding when they go into the crate it’s time to relax. Even my older dog goes in when I say kennel up and lays down.

This is what I’m doing with my pup she’s a four month old pomsky that’s 80% husky she’s gotten so used to it she only wants to sleep in there at night but won’t put herself to bed. Around 9pm she gets up from laying by wherever I’m at and start getting my attention to put her to bed. Although as my vet learned the other day if you put her in a kennel without giving her a treat she’s going to throw a shit fit lol.

I trained my dog a different way
She went in for bed first night, she wasnt house trained and we had to clean the cage
We figured that putting a blanket over would help, which it did. After about two weeks, we removed it and she slept through the night ever since.
We would also put her in the cage when the door rang, because she would run off
It got to a point she would associate doorbell with the cage, and she would run to it, open the door with her nose, and we didnt even have to lock it.
Now, she has no cage, as we decorated and it would destroy the wall. She still sleeps in that area

I tell my 65 pound apbt "home" and he goes in his kennel. Thanks to you I learned he is very food motivated. He knows to go to his kennel and sit when it's feeding time, he also Waits until the ladies (8 year old corgi/heeler and her 4 year old daughter) to start eating before he starts eating. That wasn't taught, he respects the ladies in the pack as well as the older outside male.

    • @DoomZzx
      @DoomZzx Рік тому

65 lbs is very large for a real pit... you might have a xl bully.... real pits are 35-55 lbs and 18 inches tall at the shoulders.... the easiest way to tell if you have a real pit is if you got pedigreed or blood line.... if you dont have any of that then 99 percent chance you dont have a real pit

Having Pugs, we led them into their cage by holding their sides, after the door was shut, we'd make them sit, then give a treat. Now all we gotta do is call them, open the cage, say "Get in", shut the door, they sit automatically, and we give them a treat most of the time

It’s most likely because owners use the crate as “training and punishment” but then again I never did that with my pooch and he always hated his crate so I eventually stopped using it even as a puppy he wouldn’t fall for the treat in the crate trick 😂 it’s that border aussie intelligence

My son had a Dalmation, he brought him home after the Military. I’m MY house , he could sleep wherever he felt most comfortable, but when no one was home, we crated him, until he was comfortable with our home. He Also was crated when he was disciplined. Now this sounds crazy, but I was a working mom, adult son back home, twin sons in middle school, and another son in military. My Father came to visit often as he lived very close, and this dog was used to living in an apartment, no yard, and is now in a house, with fairly large yard.
When he did something I didn’t like, I would take him, explain the issue, tell him how long the crate time would be( usually 2-10 minutes depending. And he would walk in. I would come to the kennel when it was time , open the door, ask him” are you sorry?” I would get a kiss, then let him out.
My son made fun of me, then I ‘caught him doing the same thing about a month later… he said NOTHING else they tried Ever worked, lol.
When he got the dog, his First resource was his friends who Trained the guard dogs( when they were puppies) on the base, the ones that would eventually become police dogs. This dog would only do so much.
It was a stray, and was an 11th hour rescue literally, because it was ‘caught with its sister, she got adopted , he stopped eating, so they were going to euthanize rather than see him starve to death, since he was already emaciated. No other Dog and his Boy were ever so close.( but he DID listen and protect “the Mommy”)❤❤
