Thanks Guys - Noel Crombie (the guy with the fro') was Split Enz stylist pretty much from the beginning - made their clothes, produced their film clips, did their staging/lighting!
There were two main creative forces in the band, the Finn brothers. Tim steered the earlier, zany songs like My Mistake and I See Red (both worth checking out). Neil wrote many of their later songs, and went on to form Crowded House. Split Enz were often art house, and their videos were visual treats.
Split enz I see red grabbed everyone's attention. Btw, I'm not paying you $50 US for you to watch a video and repeat your generic comments which seem to be on repeat.
@@shaundgb7367 yes, Tim left before the Enz called it a day. They recorded one final album after Tim left, the aptly titled "See Ya Round" and this song came from that album.
@@shaundgb7367 Just finished reading a book on Neil Finn. By this time this song came out, Tim had started his solo career before the Conflicting Emotions album came out and wanted to quit the band. Seeing as Split Enz was Tim Finn's band, he told Neil he needed to start his own band. Hence the name of the album this song came out "See Ya Around." Straight after Split Enz Split up, Neil started The Mullanes which we all know became Crowded House.
Heh, I had an office next to where Neil Finn has his recording studio and his wife has a shop - love them. The most hauntingly beautiful Enz song - "I hope I never" - its great.
Ms. Hunter ... you have an infectious joy within your heart that is very rare.. You also have one of the warmest and brightest smiles I've ever seen too. Love you both. You guys sure do make a very charming couple ... full of aliveness! Thanks for all of the great reactions. Cheers.
Split Enz! what a band once they toned down some of there antics and kept craziness to a certain point the world took notice and people finally said "Shit these guys can actually play".
Love this song - a lot of people miss it due to many great songs Split Enz have in their catalogue, but it's always been in my personal top 5 of the Enz! I absolutely love the bass lines in this one, and the way Neil vocal transitions go in those verses where he goes into that higher register... thanks for the reaction! Cheers from a Kiwi fan of your channel 🤘👍
Split Enz had some wonderfully silly songs that (when listened to closely) were splendidly performed/created. The lead singer (Neil Finn) later went on to create Crowded House who also had some beautifully crafted songs, many written by Neil.
By this album, big brother Tim Finn, remaining founder of Split Enz, had left for a successful solo career, and new drummer Paul Hester had joined, only to go with Neil Finn, when Neil started up Crowded House in 1986 or so. I am so glad that SOMEbody on YT is enjoying a complete immersion into the Finn Brothers universe. I like to say that Split Enz is five of the best bands ever: Split Enz, Crowded House, The Finn Brothers, Neil Finn solo and Tim Finn solo.
If for some chance you haven't done so, you really need to watch Split Enz' video for "I Got You", which is their biggest song. You also owe it to yourself to check out all of Crowded House's albums - Neil Finn is one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
One of Split Enz songs you'd really enjoy as it's very upbeat and kinda crazy is 'I see red' which is one of their earliest songs and two other great ones are Weather with you and One step ahead. But having said that they had so many great songs like Abu Dhabi and My Mistake
This is off their last album "See Ya Round". Tim had left to pursue a solo career and Neil was left to wrap up the band before forming Crowded House. Tim's first solo album 'Escapade' was huge and Crowded House's success is well documented.....but this last album was quite excellent!
Important to remember that the lead singer on this song Neil Finn joined the band at 18 and was only about 25 here. Crowded House came several years later.
I'm Australian, and I LOVE New Zealand music. Sadly so many of their great bands are never really seen puts de of NZ and Australia. But they are so good.
This was the last single from the band and I’m pretty sure “I walk away” was a message to the fans that this was it. The group broke up not long after this song came out in 1984. Neil Finn was uncomfortable about leading a band his brother Tim had started back in 1970. Ultimately Tim would join Neil in crowded house in the 1990’s but again it didn’t work and he left.
The Artistic content and costume and set design and artistic direction was mainly created by Noel Crombie who was the precussionist in the band he is also a set designer and an amazing artist
When little brother Neil entered the group things just got better. His sense of melody was so strong that the intense quirkiness of the group got downplayed a bit. After four albums (I think) he moved on and formed Crowded House.
A great song from the ENZ....check out Stan Walker's version of Ultralight beam,L.A.B live in the studio,Six60 live at Western Springs, and Alien Weaponry, all great Kiwi bands.
Yo guys...the lead singing Neil Finn went on to form Crowded House along with the drummer Paul Hester. Youve done a couple of Crowded House reaction vids. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Guys - Noel Crombie (the guy with the fro') was Split Enz stylist pretty much from the beginning - made their clothes, produced their film clips, did their staging/lighting!
Just the best talent. Thanks NZ for lending them to us in Oz 👍🥰🇦🇺
Just add it to our bill!!! 😂😅😊 Go ANZAC!!!

Where is Tim Finn in this clip? I never seen this before. Did he leave his own band before the rest broke up later?
Split enz I see red grabbed everyone's attention. Btw, I'm not paying you $50 US for you to watch a video and repeat your generic comments which seem to be on repeat.

The guy playing percussion is Noel Crombie. He directed every Split Enz video & made the props you see!!
The bass is so cool. Neil Finn is such a great song writer
RIP Paul Hester
Heh, I had an office next to where Neil Finn has his recording studio and his wife has a shop - love them. The most hauntingly beautiful Enz song - "I hope I never" - its great.
if you didnt know, Neil Finn is in Fleetwood Mac at the moment heh
Message to My Girl
Kiwi here, fantastic band!
Ms. Hunter ... you have an infectious joy within your heart that is very rare.. You also have one of the warmest and brightest smiles I've ever seen too. Love you both. You guys sure do make a very charming couple ... full of aliveness! Thanks for all of the great reactions. Cheers.
A version of this song also appears on Crowded House’s self-titled debut album, with slightly different lyrics.
Message To My Girl is another song you should check out.
Split Enz! what a band once they toned down some of there antics and kept craziness to a certain point the world took notice and people finally said "Shit these guys can actually play".

One of my all time favourite bands!
You must delve deeper with these guys… 👍

Love your last sentence especially! :)
Awesome band, the first band I fell in love with.
If for some chance you haven't done so, you really need to watch Split Enz' video for "I Got You", which is their biggest song. You also owe it to yourself to check out all of Crowded House's albums - Neil Finn is one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
Neil Finn is now the guitarist in Fleetwood Mac

Weather with you was Crowded House but all great songs!

"you'd have to pay for those" that killed me🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
There are so many more brilliantly written Split Enz songs ..one my favourite bands from that period in time .
Important to remember that the lead singer on this song Neil Finn joined the band at 18 and was only about 25 here. Crowded House came several years later.

Bow out on top - the last of the great and unique ENZ!
The Artistic content and costume and set design and artistic direction was mainly created by Noel Crombie who was the precussionist in the band he is also a set designer and an amazing artist

Great to see you doing Split Endz, more please! Strongly recommend "I see red" and "6 months in a leaky boat"
A great song from the ENZ....check out Stan Walker's version of Ultralight beam,L.A.B live in the studio,Six60 live at Western Springs, and Alien Weaponry, all great Kiwi bands.
Noel Crombie (the percussionist) has those. He made all the things.
...and played the spoons in concert!
Yo guys...the lead singing Neil Finn went on to form Crowded House along with the drummer Paul Hester. Youve done a couple of Crowded House reaction vids. Keep up the good work 👍
Better than the rest
I love this version, though the version that appeared on the first Crowded House album is more full-bodied.
Neil Finn now occasionally tours as a member of Fleetwood Mac
Using paper violins....well it sounds good on paper.
Neil Finn does a reworked version of this song with Crowded House.
Hey Guys play THE SWINGERS COUNTING THE BEAT 1981.
Pretty sure they did a month or two ago
You guys… 🤣🤣🤣
This song is deceptively complex. Just try to replicate the guitar part, let alone the rest of it. A true classic, and Split Enz's swansong single.
v end of v enzs, tim hd left n so v band disbanded, n niel formed crowded house. try tim singing i hope i never.
Lol you two. Cannibus legal where you live? Great song, must Have been a song. Later in their career as they’re not wearing all that crazy make up
Peter Green probably has them he’s there ex PR guy
