Gravity Master GR-B100 / G-Shock Connected In-Depth Review

- The Casio G-Shock Gravity Master model GR-B100 was first released in 2018. I'm aware of five variations of this watch, all using module 5536. The model featured in this video is the GR-B100-1A3, with a black and green color scheme and positive LCD display. The other versions all have reverse LCD (or negative LCD) displays. They are the GR-B100-1A2 (black and blue), the GR-B100-1A4 (copper, black and orange) the GR-B100GB-1A (black and gold) and the limited edition GR-B100WLP-7A (with a black, white and brown combination).
These watches all use Bluetooth to connect to Android or iOS devices which run the G-Shock Connected app. The app will set the watch to the correct time using an Internet-based time service from Casio. These watches do not have Casio's "Multiband 6" capability to set themselves to the correct time from long-range transmitters, but with regular connections to the G-Shock Connected app they will maintain correct time anyway. Without the app they will still run as standard quartz watches and remain accurate to within 15 seconds per month.
This model of the Gravity Master has Casio's "Tough Solar" power source, meaning the face of the watch has a built-in solar cell to charge the internal battery (or capacitor) and maintain the charge with regular exposure to everyday lighting conditions. It is also water resistant to 20 bars (or 200 meters). It has 5 alarms (with custom scheduling available), a stopwatch, countdown timer and a "World Time" second time zone display. The app allows the user to set almost all the functions that can also be set using combinations of buttons on the watch. The app also allows the user to save time and location "flight log points" which can be displayed on maps in the app and even exported to be used with other mapping software.
It's a powerful watch, loaded with features. At the time of this video's release the average price of these watches online is about $200 each (sometimes a little higher and sometimes a little lower than that).
And (spoiler alert) the watch I held up at the very end of this video is a GW9400 Rangeman.

I have this watch and it is fantastic, it is my daily watch . it is always on time, always charged . and can even set 5 alarms which is awesome along with text to remind you what they are about all from the blue tooth!

I've worked with a TV reporter who regularly wears really big watches (not Casios) and they're usually very visible when I see him on TV. So I've often thought it would be fun to have a great, big watch. This watch isn't the biggest watch around but it's the biggest one I have. And, when you judge it on its own merits, the size seems right anyway. For pilots (and everyone else) it's nice to have a watch that's easy to read when you're in a hurry. And the light it so bright I can actually shine it onto other watches to read the time on them!
Fantastic watch! The new Casio app is not that fancy when it comes to Flight log but still an amazing feature. The only video with clear instructions on how to record a point.
I may have missed when you mentioned it. The 30 minute analog count down that tells you how long to the next alarm will count down even if the next alarm is off. This gives you a silent visual alarm.
I actually like that feature a lot, but it’s so subtle I may not always notice it happening. And I may have overlooked it when I made this video.

As far as piloting is concerned, this watch seems to be the remedy for a problem that doesn't exist. A simple dive watch with a one hour bezel, and good lume for the evening, along with a flight log book and a pen will be less susceptible to user error. In addition adding the complexity and the learning curve required to master this instrument in addition to all else in the cockpit seems like make-work. The UTC and time zone function would be useful, but again, a trained pilot knows his UTC by adding or subtracting from the current time on his watch. A very interesting piece of gear however, clearly explained and wonderfully presented. Thanks for the content. I'm a subscriber and enjoy watching everything you do.

Excellent ... I have this watch. Have you watched the updates? Mine syncs with Bluetooth at 12:32 and 00:32. The second hand zaps round to R at the 4:00 position, then zaps to the Bluetooth logo, then zaps to the EXACT time. Love it. Not sure that I like it more than my multiband 6 offerings, but the result is much the same. Keep up the good work Greg! Regards from England.

I'm surprised that Casio is not yet the best selling watch in the world!I have been using G Shocks and Baby Gs for years!They have outlasted anything made by Citizen,seiko and Rolex that I have ever owned!

Overall it's been two weeks and I think the watch's great, it's underrated considering only few talk about this and it's cheaper than most models that are less useful than this one.
Got one on my wrist now, and its surprisingly comfortable, I sent back one of the cheaper 800 Bluetooth models as I couldn't see what was going on - my eyes aren't getting any younger.

I have this same exact watch. Noticed it's a power hungry monster.
I don't use this gravitymaster often, so I keep it in the drawer.
However, in just 2 weeks the power indicator falls from F to M (As shown in this video). Although it was in power saving mode.
At the same period of time, the power indicator of the Pro Trek PRG 600 remains in H, and stays in that way for a longer period of time.
Don’t keep it in the drawer.
I don’t think this watch is power hungry. Mine has been on Medium for months after staying on my desk for months. I wear it like once in 4-5 weeks and the battery has consistently been on Medium with normal room light exposure. I guess ur power falls since u keep urs in the drawer.

During home time setting, if you press the two right buttons it will go back to UTC.
The GST-B200 models have the same module, so if anyone likes how this one works, but wants a more elegant design with more metal/carbon I highly recommend it.
When I click on 3d map in group data..it doest do anything..any idea when does this work ?..does the starting point and ending point be same for this 3d animation to work ?

def my favorite colorway of all the GR-B100s. I almost bought that watch several times but I probably wouldn't wear it all that often as I much prefer my squares. Great review - thanks! Oh and can't wait to see your review of the Rangeman. :o)

Great review!!! I just bought the gwb5600 gold, the exact watch you showed in the begining... However i find the features lacking, didnt know of this watch until today... I like the combi bracelet and i have small wrists .. i dont know if this gr-b100 will be too big

Hello Señor Anderson, I ordered both models of this watch from Japan. It's been about a year and now one of the has a problem where the second hand is not working, have you experienced this on any if your two watches and is there a way to diagnose a d fix it?
This hasn’t happened to me. The only times the second hand stops are in power save “sleep” mode or when I’m synchronized to the app. But then it moves again. Does the second hand of your watch move when you connect to Bluetooth or is it always stuck in the same spot? If it is stuck, is it pointed to the 12:00 position or somewhere else?
@@GoodTimekeeper battery is full, I synchronize my watch about once or twice a week and the seconds hand was still not moving, I lightly tap the watch on my table top and the seconds hand started moving again😁it's been working fine since then, I supposed i might have either drop the watch or bumped it pretty hard that it made the seconds hand stop, I have read some blogs of other people dealing with this issues on this watch model. thanks for replying to my message.

hi ...i have this watch lately which i purchased from Amazon, yes its really great and Tough solar as well!! ( actually i have 3 watches all G-SHOCKS) this watch GR-B100 i returned it back to amazon, why?? my reason is since i have th3 G-SHOCK- GST-B200 metal bezel, the functions, formats, settings are totally 100% same features. the gravity master GR-B100 and the GST-B200 are totally same features...( except for the design) but features, settings, on the GSHOCK app, all are the same.!!! so i decided to return it...hahaha since ill be having 2 of the same features. but totally these watches are really GREAT, DURABLE, TOUGH SOLAR, 200 METERS WATER RESISTANCE. TOTALLY great!! TO HAVE
I have a GG1000 Mudmaster, currently suffering from a dead battery. I was thinking of going digital for a second watch, and ordered a gxw 56 bb. I found them negative display almost illegible and read the reviews of the crystal fogging up, so I sent it back. THIS WATCH is starting to look very appealing! Any Casio Fan opinions in the $200-250 range?

I have never understood why Casio won’t let you set the hourly signal for other times. When I was teaching it would,have been useful to have a signal at :50.
