The Rajdoot, also known as the RD, was a two-stroke Yamaha motorcycle made in India by Escorts group from 1983 to 1989. RD stands for 'Race derived' , in India promoted by Rajdoot in collaboration with Yamaha Japan.
The motorcycle division of Escorts Group started manufacturing the Polish SHL M11 175cc motorcycle under the brand name Rajdoot 175 from 1962.
Various derivatives were produced with slight changes in cycle parts, suspension and transmission. Production continued for over four decades.
Rajdoot 175 sold about 1.6 million "soviet" styled motorbikes, in various modes:
*Standard
*Rajhans Scooter(Runabout)
*GTS 175/ GTS Deluxe 175
*Ranger
*Deluxe
*Excel T
*Super D
until it was phased out in 2005 due to Euro II emission regulations. The motorcycle manufacturing unit in Faridabad, India was sold to Yamaha in the late 1990s when Escorts decided to quit the motorcycle business to concentrate on tractors and auto components.
