I use the top grill part of a propane grill to sit my basking mister and uvb light on top of to take weight off the screen. I was also able to hang plants from it as well. I use a 65 watt basking so it does get to hot.
Good afternoon I bought a zen enclosure 2x2x4 I’m looking to get the Arcadia T5 but not sure if 6 or 12% the top has a metal mech that I’m a fraid it will reduce the % of the 6%
It really depends on how much the screen top filters the light. Does it look like standard window screen? If so the. The numbers will probably be close to the numbers on the Chameleon Academy care summaries. If they are different size then you would have to find charts that measured the Zen Habitats cage filtration. There is a group on Facebook called “Reptile Lighting” that makes these charts and the Zen Habitats cage is on there I believe.
Chameleons have been cared for for decades without foggers. So they are not necessary for the life spans that we are experiencing at the moment. But each thing we add that brings our captive husbandry closer to what they have developed to expect and need brings us closer to their ideal. And this allows us to explore the longevity possible for chameleons. Longevity consists of more variables than we can hold in our heads so it is not easy to point at one thing that made the difference. So we can only do the best we can with what we know and see the effects. A fogger replicates their natural hydration cycle and so I have included it in my model husbandry that I present. I have seen great results. So I am hoping that it becomes more and more the norm.
@@ChameleonAcademy regarding the maintenance and cleaning of fogger and misting systems, what do you typically do? I saw an article demonizing the use of foggers due to their ability to project contaminated fog irrespective of routine cleaning . I use an silver ion filter (anti bacterial and water purifying) in the chamber of mine and air dry it after emptying in the morning. Only use RO water for both systems. Any suggestions on the above?
@@marwanalmansoori473 I keep my foggers cleaned on a regular basis and have not had a problem with sickness. I don’t know what to say about the various passionate and seemingly logical arguments against foggers. All I can say is that I haven’t see any of the horrible effects they warn of. I have seen amazing benefits in the hydration of chameleons. So that is all I can offer. It is certainly worth listening to these warnings and keeping them in mind. But also it is worth seeing what happens in actual practice.
@@ChameleonAcademy do you clean the hose and water chamber with a particular soap or detergent and at what frequency? Thus far I've not experienced any issues hydration/health wise. Just want to be diligent as my husbandry has become optimized now. Thanks for your kind and prompt response ☺️
How do you feel about the Bright Sun and similar lamps? I mean the one drawback I see is that you can't control basking, ambient and UV-B light separately, but other than that?
As long as the heat and UVB levels are what you intend for the species then they are fine. The only problem is exactly what you mention. You can’t control heat and UVB level independently so you get what you get even if it isn’t ideal!
Is 20 x 37 inches of floor space acceptable (height will be between 4 and 5 ft)? It will be a semi-outdoor enclosure (they will get sunlight from sunrise to late afternoon, but with a roof overhead to protect them during typhoon season) with live plants. I'll be using Golden Pothos, and I'll let it crawl up some branches, and Hibiscus, which will be planted in between enclosures. I'll let some of its branches grow inward the enclosures. I live in a tropical country, same as Hawaii, where some of them are invasive.
Sounds like a good cage space and plan. The biggest killer of Jackson's Chameleons in outdoor cages is direct sun that they cannot escape. As long as they are shaded before the sun gets too intense this should work. Where do you live?
These are such great options. I'm team Arcadia Pro T5 and Jungle Dawn. I like to get the 36" fixtures and run them diagonal.
hey there 👋🏾 I love your content as well
@@PTSDSymptom Hi :) Thank you!

Is it really necessary to have both a mister and fogger? I've been hand spraying...time to upgrade

Thank you for the quick response, I'll add a fogger as finances allow
