When I was kid back in the 60's you could go to any Sears store in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and find 55 gallon barrels full of British 303 Enfields for $10.00! Sometimes there were Surplus Springfield's as well. Different times for sure!

In the 1950s, I saw lots of Springfield '03s sell for $20 to $30. British Enfields were 1/2 the price. Many '03s and '17s were sporterized. That one looks like an 03A3 by the trigger guard and the knurled back of the bolt. It allowed manual cocking of the bolt.

That PTR is heavily inspired by the unicorn HK32, which is one of the rarest HK guns, and it’s by far and even to this day, the only HK type gun chambered in the same infamous 7.62 AK round.

Back in the late 80s there was a gun shop/dealer that imported 98Ks by the skid and rebarrelled in different calibers with early polymer or wood stocks. Later in early 90s the owner passed from cancer and company closed.

I have and had other PTR's in 308 that I am happy with. This one in 7.62x39 was sent back for repair....lots of issues. I would take this rifle to the range before you try to sell it.

Slight correction on the history re: the Star. Germany and Spain could not be formal allies in WWII because Spain was officially neutral. But Germany had supported the Franco (Nationalist) side in the Spanish Civil War 1936-39 in which Germany provided substantial military assistance to the Nationalist side of the conflict.
German military marked Stars probably are connected to that, one way or another, maybe partial repayment for German aid or could have been a straight sale...

@@jonnyjones4347 That's as maybe but Spain was officially neutral and there is no changing that. Many allied servicemen escaped capture through Spain. It amazes me just how ill informed many people making videos on UA-cam are. So, so many people think the US declared war on Germany to join the Allied cause whereas the opposite is true. The US was forced into war by Germany declaring war on the US. They didn't come and fight in Europe through any altruistic motive they chose to fight in the European theatre because it made perfect sense to fight in Europe and not involve the civil population of the US.

the MAUSER is actually a 1903A3 Springfield action and( maybe ) a new barrel. The knob on the end of the bolt and the pressed trigger guard are the giveaways.
Mauser's didn't have the knob on the bolt and had milled floorplates and trigger guard.
the US made a lot of "03A3's during WW II most had barrels from Smith Corona with only 2 rifling Chambered in 30-06, the action I believe was a Remington
