      Just an FYI, you said something false. The Boxster was the car that saved Porsche, however the Cayenne was the car that made Porsche wildly rich. Still though, it was definitely the Boxster that stopped Porsche from closing their doors back in the mid 1990’s. They were already doing great by the time the Cayenne released, but it’s the car that funded the ability for cars like the GT3/GT3 RS, GT2 RS, Carrera GT, and ultimately the 918 Spyder. So it is a very significant car for Porsche, but the Boxster is the car that made Porsche survive to today 😉👍🏼

    The curbside charging at the beginning shows the logic of putting the charge port on the passenger side or front of the car - not on the driver’s side. Europe had a lot of curbside chargers, so it’s good to finally see them appearing in the USA.

      European cars always have gasoline fuel cap on the right hand side. Therefore the electric charging port ends up on the left.

    Plug-in hybrids (that are well executed like this) are the right answer (right now) for people like me who regularly do 800-1400mi for a (long) weekend or need to tow anything on a regular basis. This basically combines the concept of a road trip / tow car & a daily city commuter.

    This is the best sales pitch I’ve ever heard for buying a PHEV. Sorry, for most people (not all), PHEVs are obsolete. I dislike them for two major reasons: a) when exceeding battery range, you must visit a gas station; b) the engine requires periodic maintenance which is expensive. No more engines for me, only BEVs.

      I feel the same way. I can’t go back. Hybrids seem needlessly complicated at this point.
      Porsche is my favorite manufacturer. But at $100k, I would get the Rivian instead.

      people rarely ever drive more than 40mi a day. Many PHEV have very reliable engines and thus not really a problem. This is especially true when the gas engine rarely engages unless the EV battery runs empty.
      Not everyone lives in a house or live in an apartment that have charging stations.

      @@RunForPeace-hk1cu The 40 mile average or rarely exceeded number is not what people use when buying. They use the maximum for road trips. 2-3 days a week, many people in USA drive over 100 miles.

    FLO does lock its handle holder if you close it properly. Tapping your card (or going through the FLO app) unlocks the holder.

    They have those Flo chargers in New York City as well. Very confusing to use. No tap to pay. Directs you to the Flo app. Doesn’t let you know the charge point app works. You have to know they have a roaming agreement. And if there are a bank of them it’s very confusing and in very small print which charger unit you’re activating.

    26:47 “Some how throughout this drive we have gain fuel capacity” could be calibration, but also don’t forget liquids expand with heat, so if it was a warm day, it’s possible you’re experiencing that phenomenon. That’s also why racecars measure fuel in weight not volume.

    Wish more PHEV’s were better at cabin climate and range. It is where most ICE drivers would pragmatically land until they were ready to go all BEV. Nice analysis‼️💯 35:43

    considering AMG will throw out a hybrid version GLE soon, given that the E-class AMG got a hybrid version... how do you think a possible GLE AMG hybrid will compare with this porsche ? in terms of back passengers space and cargo ?

    I'm glad this comes in the coupe form too! The thing about BMW, they don't offer the X6 in the phev. The coupe shape is more conducive for the EV aspect.

    My Audi PHEV does the same thing with the gas gauge. Only use gas 1 day a week, but the gas level displays differently every day.

      E-Charge mode charges the HV battery, and it's very quick.

    Allot of BEV owners don’t like PHEVs, but I rarely go further than my PHEV will go full EV, but I when I do want to go further I just kick the ICE on and go. On paper it is the worst of both worlds, but in reality they are the best of both worlds assuming you don’t care that they don’t do anything amazing. Sometimes being a master of nothing but generally good at everything is more practical.

      I agree PHEV is best when actually bought and driven. On Paper BEV seems better choice but when you own PHEV, you experience best of both worlds.

    Given the old one averaged 2.5 miles per kWh a 20 kwh unit usable fits most a to b trips but still a good ride for road trips

    The added complexity of a hybrid makes it a nightmare for long term use imo. I would just go with the gas version or a total EV.

    Kyle you have to try out a Chevy volt one day. Definitely a PHEV ahead of it’s time. Similar to an i3 and runs in electric mode basically 100% of the time

    I am not sure what the US market is going to do with a hybrid Porsche in 2024. . The BEV tech Porsche has already introduced in the US is proven reliable. Either all ICE or BEV without the need for a hybrid model makes sense. The more I think about the 2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid PHEV is to save your money and pass on this model.

      I’ve seen some numbers on it recently and I think Alex from Alex on Autos has a video on PHEVs but the bottom line is, some people don’t want BEVs and these vehicles, at least from a green perspective, are still miles better than pure ICEs vehicles, so there is a market where people can select an in between model like a PHEV if they’re not fully ready to commit.
      Also, depending on your driving needs and location and living arrangement, a BEV may not be realistic, and this also provides a bridge to that efficiency without again putting yourself in a situation for headaches based on your needs. So I think there is a place for them, and overall, it may help us transition easier if more people see this as an easier thing to do versus full BEV. The problem is making sure that people who purchase them keep them charged, otherwise the benefits die.

    Interesting to see the unshielded digital instrument screen in full-on sunlight (e.g., 18:40-19:00)... I still think that Porsche should have put a little "roof" or "lip" over the instrument panel, perhaps recessing the instrument screen a little more into the dashboard... Thank you for doing this range test at "city-street" speeds; as the owner of two PHEVs now, this is exactly how we drive locally -- in all-electric. I bought my 2022 XC60 T8 ER because of your Oct. 2021 review of it in Belgium, Kyle, and the drivetrain is exceptionally good, especially the one-pedal driving (but the controls and computer screens suck in the Volvo). So this new E-Hybrid that you're driving here seems to be superior with screens and controls (vs. my Volvo) but its drivetrain seems to be worse, ironically. And yet I'm still thinking of trading in my XC60 T8 ER for the new Cayenne E-Hybrid, with extra EV range and much-better screens and controls.

      Typically you're pretty close if you cut the range in half - generally true for both EV and gas. So probably about 20mi in EV mode.

    curious if the hybrids would be less reliable over time - if you are planning to keep the car for 7-10 years. I know there's the battery warranty, but technically this is two engine that could go wrong vs the one traditional / EV counterparts. Would be great to hear folks to extensive ownership period chime in

      Reliability doesn't just depend on complexity. It depends on how well-engineered & well-built the components (and the vehicle as a whole) are. Compare Toyota's and Tesla's reliability for example.

      @@TSERJI Tesla isn’t the best FOIL there, their battery and powertrain is years ahead of the legacy OEMs. They in the past haven’t been forced to care about panel gap consistency and such

      @@coleeto2 I've got animosity toward Tesla, & no doubt their battery and powertrain are class-leading. But reliability doesn't just depend on the components that make the vehicle move. For example, if you have trim pieces falling off, windows or doors not opening/closing properly, leaks in the cabin from rainwater, etc. that would also be a cause for concern from a reliability standpoint. From many stories & reports I've seen, Tesla still doesn't have those problems under control. Maybe it's easier to justify that in a $40,000 car, but much less so in a $100,000 car. There are consumers who are willing to put up with the poor build quality since they value the technology features more, but there also exist consumers who care about a product being built properly, especially if they're paying luxury car prices.

    Yeah right, my GLE 350de does 100km on an electric charge and uses only 8L/100km when driving with 130km/h on the Autobahn....comes with 720NM of torque as well...nothing new here...

    If you are driving a lot on a german Autobahn ceramic breaks could be useful. Perhaps it is more useful 30 than years ago, a time you was able to do large distances without a lot of speelimits, construction sites etc. even in a daytime. Now only possible at night anymore. So now driving at high speed you have to break many times. Not much fun anymore .

    bad driver isnt exclusive to California, not sure why you like make a narrative that way. Florida always has them, 10x worse. Nevada drivers are bad also... Texas has terrible people and drivers, I've encountered a few in Downtown Denver. So I'm not sure why whenever you are in California as if people are bad?

    23 Kwh only gets 45 miles of range. That's pathetic. My 2017 Chevy Volt with only 16.3 Kwh and normal (Not low roling resistance tires) got 50-55 miles of range. With LRR tires i could get 65+ miles of range. Plus with how much this will probably cost I could have bought 2 or 3 brand new.

      Your Volt didn't have as much cargo space, passenger space, handling prowess or off roading potential. It certainly didn't have 305 width rear tires. Given what this thing is, the range is decent. On mine I'm averaging 1.8 miles /kWh. Which is not great, but better than an EV pickup.

      Yeah dude your volt is built with efficiency in mind. It’s also like, a shit ton less heavier than the Porsche. The fact that it even gets 40 is pretty nice

      The cayenne is 50% heavier, runs an AWD system, and much wider and stickier tires. It's going to take 1.5-2x as much energy to move it down the road. And then for simplicity the motor has to run through the entire ICE drivetrain, unlike the Volt. So honestly ~2mi/kWh is fantastic and not far off my R1T

    PHEV don't make sense, IMO. Got to maintain both types of engines. If you don't plug in every night, you now have a hybrid with larger batteries. If you do plug in every night, you now are carrying fuel and other ICE components that you don't use. EV all the way.

      Best of both worlds I guess. If you’re only doing a daily commute that’s like 20 miles in total, you can easily get away with EV power alone, and essentially put no wear on your engine. But if you suddenly want to have a road trip across the state, you have the quick turn-around time of an engine, and the added benefit of extremely good fuel efficiency

      I agree and disagree. I want one of these to act as an electric DD as well as a weekend long trip & camper tow vehicle. I don't like the complexity of a full ICE drivetrain and then an electric drivetrain and battery over the top. That said, if executed well, the EV system can actually replace the alternator and starter and generally integrate well into the other systems, and can replace the concept of an AWD system (see the Volvo video).
      A well designed EV powertrain should be worry/maintenance free for ~10 years and 150k+ miles.

      When you have a BEV with decent range you are lugging around a large heavy battery that you rarely use. I’ve been driving a RAV4 Prime for 2 years and so far it’s great. No worries on a long trim, plenty of horsepower in hybrid and EV mode and most days I’m in EV mode. We’ll see how it goes in the long run. The complexity does concern me, but then again I figure the engine isn’t being used that much so it remains low mileage. At the time I bought it there was no AWD EV that came close in price and there really isn’t now either when you take into account the ground clearance. Of course I got federal and state tax credits so that helped. : )

      It makes perfect sense if you drive to work everyday and use battery only, but on weekends you want to leave town but live in a region where the charging infrastructure is non existent….Alaska, Wyoming, West Virginia, Montana, etc.

      Not everyone wants to drive a mute car, and EVs are mostly not that of a good fit in most people's lifestyle..... there are ppl who want to refuel in under 30s yet enjoy the extended fuel economy by the e motor and drive away rather than to wait 30 min for the same
