Interestingly enough (in the context of the "matrimonial" exchange at the very beginning of this video), they say she met her future second husband (Mel Brooks) at a rehearsal for this show 🙂

Anne Bancroft really let her New York accent show in this clip. In her movies, it was difficult to discern she was from the Bronx. I think she was also a fine singer.

I think in the movies, she had to portray herself more seriously and the accent was hushed down to a sexy and rough kind of voice that we would always know her for. It's really her NY movies like, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Garbo Talks, and 84 Charing Cross Road where we saw the quirky New Yorker side of Anne (or should I say Anna Maria Louisa Italiano).

My father went to Columbus High School with her in the Bronx. He said she was both down to earth and glamorous in those days.
