You’re normally sad about your monster dying when it happens, but seeing another monster appear afterwards is like comfort candy to the player. It shows that death is the end of one thing, but also the beginning of another

10:06 -- alternatively you could go to the shrine and spawn Sueki Suezo from the Monster Rancher 1 game (in DX you'd need the Monster Rancher made by Tecmo, otherwise the OG MR CD will work in the psone MR2). It'll live for a week, so just send it to ranch then rest it then dies. Boom instant death count going up by one each time you spawn Sueki Suezo EDIT: and speaking of death scenes, I'm sure this is why most preferred Pokémon back in the day lol
For maximum hilarity, pop it in for the Hero/Heel F tourneys. Get your ghost req set early, and an extra 5000 Gold, which is good because you'll lose it with the shrine upgrade requirements later on, but by the time you gotta shell gold to upgrade it years later, you'll have a fair purse built up.
This is legit the first and ONLY video that seems to even acknowledge MR1. Do all the training tips, and everything else apply to MR1, or is there a different math/pattern we'd need to know if we wanted to play MR1 instead of 2?
MR1 is a lot simpler, you do heavy drills every single week with taffy on odd numbered weeks and taffy + mint leaves on even numbered weeks. Meat adds a week of lifespan so it's the only acceptable food.
Back in the day my friends and I printed out copies of everything we knew and added notes in the margins. I always wondered how much was speculation. My best monster was the first Wracky I got. One-shot everything at the top level, lived forever (like 11+ years). I didn't know you could hatch anything else from the Worm because we'd feed him nothing but Cup Jelly for the unlock.
I've played every U.S. released Monster Rancher game, so I was super excited to see this release and have already put many hours into the ios version. I didn't know about many of these monster conditions!
I'd just like to point out, Colt wasn't messing with Wracky, Wracky was moving on it's own. It is a possessed Doll after all, it was still possessed before your monster dies, it just only chooses to reveal itself after the only threat is no longer around.

Ah, good 'ol game mechanics for people who still had patience back in the 90s. If a monster rancher game comes out today, I can imagine all of these would just be DLC unlockables.
It's definitely a "can" situation. I use almost exclusively low HP monsters with high speed/skill/power or int while doing tourneys and I have never had a monster die this way unless they were already old.
dang i wish they implemented the thing where you unlock the errantry monsters in the PS1 version. i remember myself trying everyday to unlock those monsters especially the magma heart dragon in the volcano errantry but found out that i can't even unlock them.
FYI the information about NYA is wrong (kind of). The cat doll becomes available after a certain number of item shop visits. Not strictly on the year. The 1026 figure is only based on having visited the item shop very often up to that point. Many players will reach this threshold years after 1026 (like in the 1030's or 40's). A mail notice will be sent to you when the doll becomes available but it is possible to find the doll there before receiving the mail.
1026* but yeah in mf2 you can find it starting in the year 1025, that's the info dataminers on the JP wiki have discovered. If you have additional info and proof of number of visits please share it with us, need to make sure the info online is as accurate as possible.
Resin comes from trees. But when you collect it from trees, it usually doesn't come in a tube. Pine resin is pretty strong btw, so it fits. Just... not the tube, that's weird. Also, boots for a monster you found evidence of from a FOOTprint? Weird.
I have a means to quicken the process of the death related monsters a bit. Just go to the shrine and enter the first Monster Rancher game as your disk. It'll give you a Sueki Suezo. They live for only one week.

Yeah you only get invited once and then 4 years after the first invite it shows up on the 4th week of july. There wont be an invitation so you just need to check every year until you find out what year the 4 year cycle is on. As long as your mon is D rank or higher itll show up in the calendar.

Sorry if it was ambiguous! In the story/exposition Pabs says they visit on clear nights, which is backed up by the fact they won't show up when it rains. They only need to visit 3 times during the fall and rain is rare so it's almost a non-issue, but if you get incredibly unlucky with constant rain you can just reload to change the rng.

I appreciate the guide, but I am still having trouble unlocking Undine / niton. I am using a Hopper/???, it is B rank (even used it to unlock dragon), 100 loyalty, my trainer rank is maxed (have beaten both Paritoka and Most with different monsters). I have had Hopper rest the entire winter season (4th week nov through 4th week February) multiple times, both still giving items and not. Monster turns 1 year old in January. Are there any hidden stat requirements by chance?
it’s pretty funny how I know most of the MR1 unlocks even though i’ve never played it because many MR2 guides used to have one or two MR1 entries on accident so I’ve spent a stupid amount of time trying to unlock stuff in the wrong game 😂
Is it 100% chance to find Footprint (Jill) in expedition if you meet the requirements? Got everything right, tried about 5 times, collected all items but no Footprints found. Went with 900+ Int, 270 Life and fame 100 Phoenix in Rank B , Trainer rank 7.
So in MR2, Worm can turn into another monster with a Worm subtype. You mentioned it can turn into a Pixie, Suezo, Naga, Jell, Hare, Monol and Gali. Can it turn into a Golem, Plant, Tiger or Zuum? Those have Worm subtypes.
Is there some other condition for the cat doll to appear in MR1? Ive already beaten all the major 4 tourneys and just spammed drills/resting until 1026 and they have not shown up yet.
I’m raising a Jell/Plant in Monster Rancher 1 mainly just to unlock Henger. The stats I’m trying to raise are Intelligence, Skill, and Defence mostly. (aka an Intelligence Tank) The only problem is I’m not sure what jobs to do are since Mailman and Mine cancel out Defence and Skill even with Hunt and Guard in between. What routine should I try to raise those stats?
Can I unlock Beaclon with any worm or does it need to be a worm/worm? I'm using a worm/naga (all 16) for extra lifespan. Will I still be able to unlock beaclon if I meet the conditions?

I think I got royally screwed and messed up big time. I got all 4 pieces of the henger but can’t finish it. I got the invite to the tournament and missed it. I am A rank. Tried to come back the next year but the invitational tournament isn’t there. This sucks bc I unlocked the other rare monsters but now I can’t finish the game. Seems like a bug or a big mistake making the game. Other monsters you can always get second chances. if you miss it once you’re screwed forever
Hey I want to bring to your attention that I believe the conditions to unlock Wracky might be patched from the PS1. I just had a scenario where I received the Wracky Doll on January Week 1, and I said to throw it away. The following week I generated a Sueki Suezo and let it die, but I didn't get the Wracky event. When I reloaded I told Colt to keep the doll, and then next week the cut scene about the doll moving occurred. I then let a MR1 Suezo die again and this time Wracky appeared. So I think you have to initially say to keep the doll, and the previous event chain in the PS1 version might have been considered bugged.
Nah if you throw the doll away it eventually comes back. You can choose to throw it away up to 4 times I believe but colt always eventually ends up keeping it.
@@Moosebones I didn't want to mess with it after the childhood trauma I dealt with knowing that you could lock yourself out of certain breeds in the PSX original haha
I honestly can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with the strong glue lol. I sent my gold suezo to search in the correct tree and it has 450 intelligence yet it isn't finding the strong glue 😩. It managed to find a gold peach at least but I'm on a quest to unlock all of the monsters since I didn't do that in the original game.

unlocking all the monster is a pain back in the day, looking for information back then was so hard and some of them are just trolls, i once read than you have to freeze and unfreeze a monster 100 time to get a jell and kill 50 monster to get a ghost.
Very helpful video! But it could also be interesting to talk about the special summonable monsters, like from the discs of metal gear solid or Dead or Alive.
@@emanueleferri9075 Because this is technically a port of Monster Farm 2 and not Monster Rancher 2 it includes the Job minigame that was included for use with the Pocketstation peripheral. In the original MF2 it was needed to unlock certain /??? breeds but it doesn't have much use in the port at all.
I started a new ps1 game and the rng has been against me the entire game so far. I did the fimba tournament and my team lost, I did the volcano thing and never got a feather, did the Mandy errantry without injury 4 times and never got the spear…
late reply but there's a randomness involved on these events. the best way is always save prior to triggering the event then reload each time you don't get the said items. will help a lot especially when trying to get Joker's mask (as it is considered one of the hardest items to get in the game).
@@dravenryoma08 I have basically abandoned the game again now, but I do go back and revisit from time to time. I beat the “story” of the game many times so far, but remember I wanted to unlock as much as possible without cheating. Saving before doing each thing is definitely the way to go though, I can’t remember if I was doing that or not
You need to win S rank official tournament first and next week you will get invitation letter for "Great Four" tournament. Only monster that get invite can enter great four so if you switch to another monster you won't be able to enter tournament even that monster was already rank S. There're 4 different great four (one for each season.) To raise your rank, you need to use same monster to win different great four. So if you need to raise your rank to 8, you need to win 2 of 4 different great four with same monster.
im having a hard time getting invited to the ima fimba meet after the first time, since i turned down the first request... my monster is rank D and i let about 6 years pass since i was invited. im kinda stumped lol
For an easier way to kill a monster anytime use the monster rancher keyword under artist and tecmo under artist to get a seuzo that lives one week. Also hopper only needs to beat the c rank official tournament to get b rank to dig up the hot spring not a rank but I am sure you just miss spoke.
I didnt misspeak. He needs to be A rank if it's your first monster as one of the requirements for unlocking undine is being breeder rank 4 (having beaten B rank official). If you do that with another monster first then your hopper only needs to beat rank c. I make that distinction in the video because lots off ppl try to use their hopper as their first monster to speed up upgrades.

took me 20 years to finally beat Monster Rancher 2 and finally get Metalner, was always the only one I missed. My 9 year old self has been redeemed

I appreciate the guide, but I am still having trouble unlocking Undine / niton. I am using a Hopper/???, it is B rank (even used it to unlock dragon), 100 loyalty, my trainer rank is maxed (have beaten both Paritoka and Most with different monsters). I have had Hopper rest the entire winter season (4th week nov through 4th week February) multiple times, both still giving items and not. Monster turns 1 year old in January. Are there any hidden stat requirements by chance?
Figured the breeder rank mattered in some way. Also, always heard that the question 'do you believe aliens exist' at the start mattered for mrtalner

it’s pretty funny how I know most of the MR1 unlocks even though i’ve never played it because many MR2 guides used to have one or two MR1 entries on accident so I’ve spent a stupid amount of time trying to unlock stuff in the wrong game 😂
Is it 100% chance to find Footprint (Jill) in expedition if you meet the requirements? Got everything right, tried about 5 times, collected all items but no Footprints found. Went with 900+ Int, 270 Life and fame 100 Phoenix in Rank B , Trainer rank 7.
So in MR2, Worm can turn into another monster with a Worm subtype.
You mentioned it can turn into a Pixie, Suezo, Naga, Jell, Hare, Monol and Gali.
Can it turn into a Golem, Plant, Tiger or Zuum? Those have Worm subtypes.

I’m raising a Jell/Plant in Monster Rancher 1 mainly just to unlock Henger. The stats I’m trying to raise are Intelligence, Skill, and Defence mostly. (aka an Intelligence Tank) The only problem is I’m not sure what jobs to do are since Mailman and Mine cancel out Defence and Skill even with Hunt and Guard in between. What routine should I try to raise those stats?
My suggestion is to build up some money and send them on training to raise the problem stats
To get Undine, do I need a Hopper/Hopper or can I use a Hopper with a different sub breed?

I think I got royally screwed and messed up big time. I got all 4 pieces of the henger but can’t finish it. I got the invite to the tournament and missed it. I am A rank. Tried to come back the next year but the invitational tournament isn’t there. This sucks bc I unlocked the other rare monsters but now I can’t finish the game. Seems like a bug or a big mistake making the game. Other monsters you can always get second chances. if you miss it once you’re screwed forever
For 1 if you forfeit all fights can you still get ghost?

Turns out it's based on when you first visit the shop, most normal playthroughs will unlock everything by 1026 or earlier

yeah that's technically the quickest way to get ghost, i just wanted to give ideas if you couldnt find the disc.

Hey I want to bring to your attention that I believe the conditions to unlock Wracky might be patched from the PS1. I just had a scenario where I received the Wracky Doll on January Week 1, and I said to throw it away. The following week I generated a Sueki Suezo and let it die, but I didn't get the Wracky event. When I reloaded I told Colt to keep the doll, and then next week the cut scene about the doll moving occurred. I then let a MR1 Suezo die again and this time Wracky appeared. So I think you have to initially say to keep the doll, and the previous event chain in the PS1 version might have been considered bugged.
Nah if you throw the doll away it eventually comes back. You can choose to throw it away up to 4 times I believe but colt always eventually ends up keeping it.
@@Moosebones I didn't want to mess with it after the childhood trauma I dealt with knowing that you could lock yourself out of certain breeds in the PSX original haha

I honestly can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with the strong glue lol. I sent my gold suezo to search in the correct tree and it has 450 intelligence yet it isn't finding the strong glue 😩. It managed to find a gold peach at least but I'm on a quest to unlock all of the monsters since I didn't do that in the original game.
Finally found it. I guess it is more of a random thing once you've met the requirements

The first year you get to D rank is the first year the invitation unlocks.
unlocking all the monster is a pain back in the day, looking for information back then was so hard and some of them are just trolls, i once read than you have to freeze and unfreeze a monster 100 time to get a jell and kill 50 monster to get a ghost.

They unfortunately(or fortunately) made special summons incredibly common in the port so it's easy to find stuff now.

@@emanueleferri9075 Because this is technically a port of Monster Farm 2 and not Monster Rancher 2 it includes the Job minigame that was included for use with the Pocketstation peripheral. In the original MF2 it was needed to unlock certain /??? breeds but it doesn't have much use in the port at all.

I started a new ps1 game and the rng has been against me the entire game so far. I did the fimba tournament and my team lost, I did the volcano thing and never got a feather, did the Mandy errantry without injury 4 times and never got the spear…
late reply but there's a randomness involved on these events. the best way is always save prior to triggering the event then reload each time you don't get the said items. will help a lot especially when trying to get Joker's mask (as it is considered one of the hardest items to get in the game).
@@dravenryoma08 I have basically abandoned the game again now, but I do go back and revisit from time to time. I beat the “story” of the game many times so far, but remember I wanted to unlock as much as possible without cheating. Saving before doing each thing is definitely the way to go though, I can’t remember if I was doing that or not

You need to win S rank official tournament first and next week you will get invitation letter for "Great Four" tournament. Only monster that get invite can enter great four so if you switch to another monster you won't be able to enter tournament even that monster was already rank S.
There're 4 different great four (one for each season.) To raise your rank, you need to use same monster to win different great four. So if you need to raise your rank to 8, you need to win 2 of 4 different great four with same monster.

Second kawrea errantry requires 280 life, b rank and 50 fame

yeah but i didn't know how hard or easy it was gonna be to find sueki suezo in the port so I went with a method that doesn't include the shrine.

Why cant I get jels is my game cursed?
For an easier way to kill a monster anytime use the monster rancher keyword under artist and tecmo under artist to get a seuzo that lives one week. Also hopper only needs to beat the c rank official tournament to get b rank to dig up the hot spring not a rank but I am sure you just miss spoke.
I didnt misspeak. He needs to be A rank if it's your first monster as one of the requirements for unlocking undine is being breeder rank 4 (having beaten B rank official). If you do that with another monster first then your hopper only needs to beat rank c. I make that distinction in the video because lots off ppl try to use their hopper as their first monster to speed up upgrades.
