Got the assessment tomorrow, hopefully all goes well. I feel I haven’t researched enough but I haven’t been explicitly told I’m having an “interview”, but rather a “careers discussion”. Only briefly looked at the history of the Guards and everyone knows the 5 Regiments so that’s not an issue.
Haven't chosen an assessment date yet but I was told that if you get straight A's in assessment grades, you get offered a starting date there and then. If you get B or C, you might be waiting quite a while before you can start basic training. I will definitely research a lot but I really wanna focus on getting straight A's.
Yes the goal is to win and do your absolute best aim for the a’s for sure, the ultimate goal is to just pass and get into the unit you are aiming for! Go smash it
Do you research on the regiment of your choice, keep on top of your fitness especially cardio. Be confident and enjoy it. Try to engage in communications on the journey to wherever you get sent. It really is a good time give it 110%. I had a great time on mine but was nervous before I went. Honestly don’t be nervous it’s a great experience. Roll on mod one now. I’m currently in training , as far as I know you can join with mild and I mean very mild ADHD and you can not be taking medication for it but still talk to your careers office first if you do take medication it may depend what you take and how often but if you have an extreme issue with ADHD ie it really effects the way you behave and conduct yourself then No unfortunately you won’t be accepted
From my understanding, you must have been asymptomatic for at least two years without the use of medication. The reasons behind this are that they don't want someone who's mentally unstable on the front line, especially if they require medicines they may not be able to get in a sticky situation. You would be a danger to yourself and your unit if you're unable to act like a good soldier while a hostile unit is attempting to kill you.
i've recently joined the university officer training corps. when i did my army medical i was honest about my ADHD (diagnosed through someone employed by my uni but not a psychiatrist). the main thing i was asked is if it affects my discipline. i said i keep myself clean, exercise with some consistency, keep my home in relatively good order and achieved a 1:1 in my bachelor's degree. i believe i was asked about medication, though i can't remember for sure as we were all sleep deprived af. i also mentioned i live with my girlfriend; that was also a positive as it meant someone else could tolerate living with me haha. meditation practices, exercise and philosophy have seriously done wonders for my wandering mind, energy levels and views on the world and of myself. i am heavily considering joining the army when i finish my master's. good luck on your journey brother
