It cost as much as a ticket flight. But we are traveling in few month in Chang Mai and we are looking defintely at this option with 1st class train... just to get the experience 😉! Thank you for the video, it definetely helps us to confirm our choice to go with the train 🙏❤️
It does cost as much as the flight, but remember, you're also saving a night in a hotel, so it makes it slightly better! Definitely worth the experience regardless, you'll love it! There's a direct link in the description if you hadn't booked it just yet, it's an affiliate link, so doesn't cost you anything extra to book it, but makes us a little commission if you hadn't already! Let us know how it goes and good luck! ❤️☺️
Second-class is really almost as comfortable, and at 931 baht (US$26) for the upper bed or 1031 (US$28) for the lower, second-class is a real bargain. Try to get seats in the middle of the car rather than at one end or the other where there's more noise from the wheels as well as from people forever coming and going through the doors.
Those are some really great tips! We are going to try second class the next time we have to get the sleeper train and see how it compares! Thanks for watching 🥰
Welcome to Thailand I love to see your reaction. Try the local street food and fruit it is very good and cheap. I recommend you carry a small change like 20, 50, 100 bath bill so, you don’t have any problems with taxi driver or Tuck Tuck. If they said they don't have a change for a big bill. You can change from 1000 bill to a small bill by go to 7eleven anywhere in Thailand on problem.
This was probably the most helpful video I've watched while trying to decide whether to fly or take the train, and choosing between first class and second. Thank you for including details about the amount of light and noise, and the bedding review!
We're so glad you found it useful! We found when we were looking at getting the train that no one else seemed to have made a useful informative video on what it was like, so we thought we'd do it ourselves! It makes us so happy that it's still helping people make their decisions half a year later learning from our mistakes ☺️😂 if you are looking to book the train, please feel free to use the link in our description. It's an affiliate link, so it makes us a little bit of commission, but doesn't cost you a penny extra. If you'd prefer not, no worries! Have a good evening and good luck for your trip! Let us know how it goes ☺️
The train looks good. And clean too. Best is someone makes your bed for you! However, I’ve tried sleeping on trains before and it does not work for me. Too much disturbance. Good thing is you save on the cost of a night’s accommodation 👍
It was definitely not the best sleep, but considering it saved the accommodation, we were happy! Definitely a fun experience to try but might need to follow our tips next time😁
This was very helpful! We are planning to take a night train to Chiang Mai this April, but I have looked at every date and have been checking for months and cannot seem to find any first class tickets populate in my searches. How far out did you have to book these tickets? Any insights are great. Thank you!
We're so glad you found it helpful! 🫶 We did book our tickets quite far in advance (around 2 months before we went), but there seemed to be plenty of seats! Maybe it's this time of year which is effecting it? We used 12GO Asia to book the train, the link is in the description which should hopefully take you to the page we booked it on! Let us know if you have any more questions 😊
It may also be busier the other way as Bangkok station is huge. There's likely to be quite a few more people booking from Bangkok up, rather than the other way! Fingers crossed you can get one though, it was luxury yet not too badly priced! 😀
Nice video. I prefer second class over first class when travelling on night trains, especially when travelling alone. You have more privacy in second class in your little "sleeping cave" than you have in first class when you have to share it somebody else. The food on the train is fine, but I remember the times, when food was freshly prepared in the dining car, and you could eat it with open windows enjoying the pleasant air.
That makes so much sense, we couldn't imagine having to share the room with a stranger when you pay such a higher cost in comparison to 2nd class! Thankfully we had each other, otherwise, I think I'd be joining you in 2nd class! 😅 We should have tried the food really, I can imagine it must've been better back in the day. I had airplane food in my mind as to what it would resemble!
@@DisappearforDays Thanks for nice answer. Yes, sharing the room in first class can be a challenge. For me it was last year (2023) that I had the upper berth. I am more like a computer nerd than a sportsman, and I am not anymore the youngest guy, and so I struggled getting up. Yes, you have to start with the correct foot first. I think you know it when I saw your video. 🙂 But my entire life I have been a train enthusiast, and I prefer trains over other means of transportation. By the way, in the old dining cars sometimes there was a blast from the kitchen filled with chili so it bit into the nose. And you had to sneeze. 🙂 Thank you again for the nice video...and I like to see young people to use trains in Thailand (or anywhere else).
Yeah, it's not the most convenient to climb up onto it! We love a train ride as well to be honest, it's much more relaxing than getting a flight and having to arrive super early, or being crammed into a small night bus. I can imagine the chilli now, sounds like it'd blow Emma's head off 😂 Thank you for watching and commenting! We are in Indonesia currently, so hopefully soon will have a video out on their relatively new bullet train, we're so excited to ride it! 😁
Sorry for the delayed reply, I had to check with Emma 😂 once we bought the tickets, they get sent to you via email. You then turn up and show the ticket counter and they will provide a ticket to you! It was a very simple process ☺️
Great video! Which website did you use? I’m using 12go Asia but I only got confirmation and I’m waiting over a week for a ticket. I wonder if it’s normal to take this long?
We used 12go Asia too - there's a link in the description. The booking confirmation email usually has a PDF attached. This is what we use when we arrive at the bus or train station. We usually show this and then they give us the tickets. It may not be the same everywhere but that's what we have experienced up until now. Glad you enjoyed the video 💚
There is a link in the description. I have a feeling the first class tickets run out quickly though so you may want to book in advance. Best of luck getting hold of some 🤞🍀
We're sorry about the audio quality, this was early on in making videos for us. We now use software to noise isolate, so it should be improved massively. We'd love if you could watch some of our other videos and provide us feedback on them also ❤️
Trying to get a sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and the 12go app is acting up. It either doesn't recognize your payment says the ticket is no longer available. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions
Have you tried clicking on the link in the description from a laptop or computer as that’s how we always book ours? We don’t usually use the app so wouldn’t know of any problems or ways to solve them on there. I hope that helps. ☺️
Ahhh, I think if we made a few changes (mainly ear plugs) I think it would've been fine! Also if we knew there were going to be that many stops we probably wouldn't have woken each time panicking we'd arrived already 😂

I love sleeper trains. Happy you enjoyed the experience.
It was great, but didn't get as much sleep as hoped! Oh well! haha
@@DisappearforDays the best sleeper train are Sydney to Perth Australia or Adelaide to Darwin Australia I have done both
Australia do the best sleeper trains the ghan and the Indian Pacific Long from east to west and south to north
Keep going!!
Cheers bro! ❤️

Thanks for watching! We had so much for on the train for parts of it... except the sleep! 😂
I thought that noise was like a volcano erupting, I really thought that
Scared the c**p out of me

Great video, I especially like the part where the guy has skinny legs
Joel isn't in this video wth. Don't worry though, if you're craving them, Joel will be on the channel soon!
Can’t wait to sink my eyes into some more Joel content!

How much did the train cost?
It is illegal for you to ask him that
Don't make me expose those text messages on the channel 😅
2:16 ข้าวคลุกกะปิ
Rice mixed with shrimp paste,
you should mix it together.
Ahhh we weren't quite sure, even when it wasn't mixed it tasted great. I can only imagine how much better it could've been now! 😅

Just about to book the same train after watching this :) so you didn't need to pick up your ticket in Chiang Mai for the train? Excited!!
Exactly that! We just had an e-ticket which we showed at the counter and they were fine with it! Let us know how the train journey goes for you! 😃

I think this has put me off sleeper trains 😂
Oh no! 😂 the experience wasn't too bad, just learn from our mistakes and definitely bring earplugs! 😂
On the plus side is you gain a day and cost of accommodation for tiredness if you can’t sleep 🤔
Thank you for accidentally opening up the connecting door to the other room 🤣
I hope we've saved other people the embarrassment of doing that themselves 😂🤦
That's good that is a room than I had
Yes, quite spacious for the two of us, it worked well ☺️
Gave a thumbs up for effort but I couldn’t hear what you were saying for 75% of the video. You have to have a microphone.

@@DisappearforDays I had the end of the carriage on both trips
Ahh, that could be a game changer, less people walking by then!
@@DisappearforDays no because the toilet was next to my room round the corner the toilet was not nice
Ohhh no, I didn't think of that part of it! Hopefully you didn't get the smell along with that 😥🤢
The toilet facilities seem better than I had
Oh really, they weren't great we didn't think but having a shower on board was a bit of a game changer!
