In the book Olivia's dad killed a man, Charlie's brother is fucking dead, Stella has unmedicated and undiagnosed ADHD and dyslexia, and Wen has a crush on his step mom
"My girl is hotter than your girl you know it you know it My ride is hotter than your ride you know it you know it Don't you wish you were us?" very subtle
What I've always liked about that movie, is that main characters' struggles are actually relatable or pretty serious- which isn't so common in nowadays Disney Channel movies. Charlie: pressure from his parents, who seem oblivious to his passion and want him to be the copy of his older brother Wen: struggles with the acceptance of his future stepmother, probably his dad never really talked with him about this whole relationship Mo: strict parents, especially her father (no wonder she's dating a troublemaker-ish guy, who encourages her to skip classes or lie to her dad) Olivia: her mum's died and dad is a prisoner- quite dark for Disney, probably aware that she may lose her grandma one day, which (assuming from the movie) is the only family member left Stella: feels like she's not enough for her parents (makes sense with the rebel thing, like asking for attention)
Yeah it's a shame, they're trying to depict rebellion and fighting against the establishment, but like... it's a Disney Channel movie, so they ironically can't go "too far" with it. "We want kids to fight for their individuality and stand up against tyranny!! But like... in a pre-approved, socially-acceptable way". Like at the beginning when Stella gets dress coded. In real life her shirt would probably have something obscene on it, but it's a Disney Channel movie so instead it just has the comparatively unoffensive slogan "question authority" and they _treat_ it like it was obscene. And instead of her and the rest of the band riling the students up to protest about something genuinely important, the hill she's chosen to die on is saving a lemonade vending machine.
I love how during the improvisation sketch all the good musicians are wearning Danny Gonzalez t-shirts while the terrible musician is wearing a Ratatoing shirt.
I can't believe you skipped over the part where Hayley Kiyoko spits a mouthful of lemonade at the rival band's lead singer and THAT'S how they got their name

Ive literally always adored this movie so much bc it deals with serious and RELATABLE issues that aren’t so common in Disney movies or shows. Stella struggled with feeling like she didn’t belong with the rest of her family because of the difference in interests or smarts, Wen was struggling with accepting Sydney as part of the family and couldn’t accept that his parents past relationship had ended and his father was moving on, Mo struggled to find her identity as an Indian-American girl while experiencing the pressures of her fathers wishes for her to be “the perfect Indian daughter” along with the pressures of highschool and trying to fit in while dating one of the popular guys and being in a newfound band, Charlie was struggling with his parents constantly comparing him to his older brother and not seeing him as his own person causing him to be trapped in his older brothers shadow, and most of all Olivia, who’s struggling with the passing of her mother and the absence of her father whos in jail and having to be raised by her grandmother. This movie has always been my favorite, it’s just full of the “found family” trope and them all realizing that all they really have is each other. Plot twist: The lemonade refills in the vending machine were beyond expiration date to a point they become hallucinogenic substance, and the kids were merely just hallucinating themselves running a successful band.

23:39 Queen kind of was this band. When Brian May started playing the intro to “Love of My Life” everyone would start cheering, and then Freddie would come out and the audience would just start singing while Freddie conducted them. In the most famous live performances of that song, Freddie only sings a few lines. Most of the performance is the audience singing the song to the band. Surprisingly, it’s somehow much more powerful to watch than most regular performances, because you can just really feel how much people loved them and that song.
“I’m classically trained on the violin, not whatever this is!” *puts down bass* - *cuts back to her playing upright bass in the detention room* God these show writers are geniuses
I mean, I'll be honest, I play Electric Bass, and if you handed me an Upright I genuinely wouldn't be able to play it. However, I played in my High School Jazz Band, and my friend, she played Upright Bass, and was able to make the transition to Electric pretty easily.
@@JacobHillSBD I'm sure if you are good enough to improvise on the upright, you're good enough to at least know what a bass guitar is, and I'm sure you could apply some music theory to it pretty quickly. Most of my friends in my orchestra that played bass knew both instruments pretty well
Why did I think this was about LaCroix? This isn't even Dannys second channel, where he likes to get a little weirder, a little wackier and a little goofier.
@NATALIE.HERNANDEZ 102153 Thanks you are a real hero. I've seen that you've gone through where they've posted the links and I send my respect to you. ᕙ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
it makes me sad a lot of people haven’t watched this movie when they were in elementary school and then try to start a band with people that have no idea how to play any instruments at all lmao
I DID THAT ACTUALLY. have others??? during aftercare i'd sing disney channel theme songs while my friends played "instruments" in the back... our instruments were plastic disney princess plates LMAO
Fun fact: lemonade mouth is based on a young adult novel second fun (?) fact: olivia's dad is in prison because, as stated on the wikipedia page, he was "convicted of armed robbery and manslaughter" so. yeah, i guess he did make some bad choices
It’s so funny to think Olivia started her letter by hyping up her high school band, going through their history of them going through obstacles, and ending it by saying they’re famous
11:37 But the thing is, that scene is actually so realistic. I'm in a band and when we improvise things its always really good, and sometimes we say "yeah, let's make that be how the song goes" and then we try it again and its full of mistakes and we can't replicate what we did at least on the first go.
“my brother is perfect and my parents want me to follow in his shoes” “yeah, my dads girlfriend is a nightmare” “ok well my cat died and my dads in *prison* “
Dude this entire movie was my CHILDHOOD... I think my 9th birthday party was themed after it. It's so weird seeing people cover it and to see it all again - I still have the songs from this movie on my old playlists.
as a bassist , i’m so confused when the bassist says she’s classically trained in violin moments after playing the double bass (which is literally the bass guitar but bigger.) violin and bass aren’t even in the same clef
@@austinroselmao the part in the movie where she's playing for her parents actually made me die a little bit. i mean thank god she joined the band playing electric bass because her violin career was not going anywhere lol
This movie is literally my childhood and while the storyline leaves something to be desired, I stand by the music because the songs are BOPS and of course Wen's rapping is iconic
This is such a weird fever dream of mature topics handled weirdly + cheesy high school musical moments. I particularly like the part where the band is struggling at band practice and the solution is that they just stop struggling, and then improvise an entire song. Also when the singer and drummer are eating pizza during the cup fight. Anyway I can see how this movie would have slapped as a kid.
Yeah it’s weird the really dark parts like Olivias mom being dead and dad being in jail, and the comical high school musical things made this movie feel so surreal.
Honestly the whole “these kids can come up with music while cleaning, but they can’t come up with music given instruments” is honestly realistic I can be doing the most random things and come up with a story with Lore and characters. But give me a pen and pencil and suddenly I can’t write one sentence.
honestly though the people in my school would just be looking around feeling secondhand embarrassment with one small group of people clapping and another "oohing"
Where does Danny keep the clones? Like, do they live their own lives separate from him? Do they all make UA-cam videos and post them to this channel so each Danny can have a break? Or does OG Danny keep the clone Danny’s locked up in a closet or something?
@@coinwater8511 I'm so sorry to be the one to break this to you, but the clones are, shall we say... Liquidated after every performance. The genetic material that is involved in this particular sort of cloning is *extremely* rare and expensive, and, as such, each clone must, unfortunately, come to an end in order to preserve the materials for future clones. It's horrible and they are fully aware of their pending fate from birth. A Danny clone does not lead a pleasant life, I can assure you that. You have to ask yourself, do I enjoy these bits enough to support the repeated murder and dismemberment of *so many* innocent clone lives? I, for one, do not.

Right?!
Yeah it’s weird the really dark parts like Olivias mom being dead and dad being in jail, and the comical high school musical things made this movie feel so surreal.
it was originally a y/a novel and i guess disney bought the rights and made this movie so it was adapted a bit weirdly
The kids casually eating pizza during the fight might be my favorite part of the movie
Honestly the whole “these kids can come up with music while cleaning, but they can’t come up with music given instruments” is honestly realistic I can be doing the most random things and come up with a story with Lore and characters.
