Heyyy ! Thanks for the shout out 💯 this is real shit right here. Keep spreading the message CK!
We all we got sometimes Sis 🙏🏽 we hear you LOUD and clear. Safe travels on tour
reverie the great
No conspiracies man, just "producer tube" thrives off of new artists hopes and optimism. They gonna sell em the dream and string em along long as they can... You a real one Curtiss.
Yeah, we (The Artists) will never attack you bro.
Keep doing what you are doing King! 💪🏾
This Revolution will not be Streamified ✊🏿
I'm glad you did this follow up as an artist myself. I watched the original conversation and thought you all respectful of each other's opinions. Then I saw this video you are referring to hear and it didn't sit well with me. I appreciate you and what you share. I am a new independent artist and find your thoughts extremely helpful. Thank you for what you do. You speak for artists!
I really didn't like dame's attitude he had towards you and I feel like he even got disrespectful with you, throwing shots at you when you weren't even there to defend yourself and stand your ground and he underestimates you, I am on your side man! I wonder why he got dissed by Hop. He's shady af!
I admire your courage, I align with your vision and I’m incredibly envious of your passion.
41:16 to 41:30 is GOSPEL.
They treat music like a hustle and not art.
I NEEDED this whole video though, man. I appreciate you, Curtiss.
Curtiss, keep grinding..Much Respect…you’re on the verge of making the industry rethink some things AND that’s a start!!
You are changing lives man, and they mad about it, we appreciate you bro. Keep pushing 🙌🏾🙌🏾 thank you man. You made me think about my business differently
Kurtis is not bashing streaming, just saying it’s not a win for many people including himself ❤
Seems like such a simple and obviously true statement, right?
It seems to me King that all the negative energy is only merely trying to ride your DIY wave, and keep tabs on the progress as your journey continues
This is a Revaluation!!!!!
Dj Pain is a knob, he has a attitude problem
THIS is how you address folks! Big applause Curtis King 👏 Lots of folks in this Internet space can learn a lot from this discussion.
Be the change you want to see in the world. They would take it all from us if you let them. We're going around their gate and they're mad.
The way you’ve shifted my thought process these last few months has been such an eye opener man. It’s crazy! I can’t say this enough bro. Love everything that you’re doing brotha keep being great. You shaking this shit up & it’s what we need
off top i paused real quick just to point out how bro said "he's been going in on streaming to promote his album" cuz i feel like that's a real disingenuous way to paint things.
shit feel kinda nasty, like i ain't been the most tapped in for a minute to see exactly how you been moving in that respect but i been rockin wit you long enough to know you move wit intention & integrity and you always been transparent about certain things being dual purpose (when that applies) & letting niggas know what the play is.
ion know that man or how he moves. but it sound like some projection shit to me idk
I wonder if this is the thought process that destroyed funk volume. The clash between creative vs operational cost.
Wise people learn from others. I’m certainly learning a lot from you. Thank you for sharing your own experience to help lift your people.
You dropped gems and I admire that. However, I think what I really admire about this live is that you bare it all. There's a sense of vulnerability in this that I really admire, it says everything came from within and you're not faking nothing but being true to you.
love you bro, so admire your love for the art...
much respect for you standing on your square and talking about the elephant in the room even with the pressure not to. and standing behind your words with actions like pulling your work from spotify. thats not an easy thing to do when you got skin in the game.
Curtiss, your decision is YOUR DECISION!!! At the end of the day, month, year, decade and so on! People should respect your decision! Why they so glued on why you moved all your items (catalog) off of streaming, it is respectfully all your decision! I respect your decision, your brave for what you are doing! Do you all day/night cause all the others will as well... they may be dependent upon streaming but it pays crumbs... Business-wise streaming just don't make sense unless your a whale in and of it and how many artist are? Not many...Stay Strong, Stay Focused and Stay in Flow as you Fluidly move through on your Journey Chopping through the Vast Wilderness that is called "Music" with the passion, respect and love for it that you show day in and day out!!! Respectfully, Salters B. Davis IV
Some people believe messing over other people intentionally for supposed success is acceptable and fair game. Those people will never be concerned with the real creators of art. They are mostly concerned with those they can use and less concerned with the overall balance of power between the creators of art and the users of art. We forget there is more than consumers at the base, there’s something called Users, who take advantage of artists ❤for Kurtis King keep going my Brother
30:00 I definitely understand not looking at music as a hustle, but I've been thinking lately: If don't want to give my music away because I won't make the money from it or have full control of it, that starts to feel contradictory 🤔🤔 so there are some songs I've decided not to put up "for sale" and just keep up free so everyone can get the experience and the message no matter what. I think a mixture of that will work out well..
Heavy is the head who wears the crown. 👑
we may need to get to the level of trusted, dedicated and independently owned music distribution and streaming
This was a good topic that needed to be addressed👍
Snoop Dogg said he did a million streams and it was less then $45,000 no one in any video can nail down how much a stream is
Ur 💯real Fam. Appreciate u so much for being the voice in this space that reps independents
42:50 ❤ I love when you talk like this it’s inspiring, powerful, and overall positive!
Keep doing you, Mr King. We appreciate you for bringing us along on this journey. You are getting nailed on the cross for all of us for starting something akin to a new religion. God bless you for daring to try. Stay strong.
I've been with you for years bro..got alot of jewels you dropped along the way..soon as i heard that.."rappers and producers..", i knew it was bout to be dope lol. I'm a fan, a creator, a producer, still like spittin, but never cared about the business..what so ever..just enjoy making my music.. I appreciate you fam!
Great video Curtis. You’ve always been an inspiration to the culture and true to yourself. Never any bad vibes.
Loved the passion and love you have for the art. I’m definitely feeling you, but i wish you would’ve reacted to the whole video brodie cause they definitely showed some respect and definitely spoke on more than just the point you reacted to.
God knows your heart & you will be blessed in abundance for your passion & determination ❤️🙏🏾
What’s never spoken about when going direct to consumer is your performance and mechanical Royalties can be 0. Once you sell that CD, Vinyl or Tape there is no more money to be made unless they buy Merch or a concert ticket. Those publishing royalties pay for your entire life plus 70 years after you’re dead. That physical sale only pays once. I personally believe for artists to be financially secure you need to sell physicals and stream. When you sell that vinyl they can’t play it in the car they will have to stream. Most people don’t have CD players. So even if they buy that Cd they will still stream. Then people will say well my album comes with a digital version so they can stream. That’s cool but that digital version that they now own will not generate any type of royalties.
I fucking love that loop. The wisdom makes it better. And thank you so much for that Gil Scott-Heron extra context, blew my mind that’s what he truly meant!!!
Bro Stevie crooks album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥like seriously thanks for putting us on #realhiphop💯
If I made songs like "Fine Apple" I wouldn't be sentimentally attached either.
But the level of success that song got speaks for itself. Not everything has to be about your self expression as an artist and not every song you do is for you as an artist. Just as many times artists say the song they made that they like the least happens to be the song their fans love the most. Having watched a lot of his videos, I tend to agree with alot of his perspective in terms of music
@@masnnsworld7576 Exactly. Thanks for agreeing with me. Nic D is only in it for the bag.
@@budzill Nope, he's successful because he's audience driven not ego driven. There's more than one way of winning in this music game
@@masnnsworld7576 In Nic D's case audience driven = in it for the bag. Nic D literally said that in the clip.
@budzill He didn't say that. That's the problem with using short clips, go watch the actual podcast and get full context of the question he's answering, Curtis cut it off to continue with his own point. His idea of selling of his catalog is to preserve his family's lifestyle and create a musical environment that funds itself.
Just supported your project. Don’t know how you feel about Astrology, but January and February are huge for the collective and YOU!! January 19,20,21 of 2024 leading up to your Solar Return are BIG! The Age of Aquarius is afoot!
You mean the age of the dragon 🐲
You're more than the songs you make. You can care about the process and let the song go, you're still a better artist. The problem with artists and business is fear based, you have to execute no matter how you feel to succeed in business long term. Artists fear someone will ask of them and they won't be able to deliver so the "I love the craft" dissonance kicks in. You have to be fearless, create a system and solve a problem, if that doesn't make sense with music you don't have a business and need employment aka record deal
I couldn't watch that whole interview when it premiered cuz i felt they were coming for you. They invited you to pick you apart and i seen that happen too many times before. I wasnt with that
Learning HOW to leverage cultural currency and god-given talent is more important than having it itself. We need better business models for ourselves but it takes time. Art, business, life... all objective. But bottom line... if you don't know how to market or sell yourself as an artist, you will be doomed. If you lack business acumen, you might need to partner with someone or take your time to empower yourself. Over time, starting to fall in love with creative strategy. Marathon shit fr. Whatever works best for YOU. There's no formula. Independent artists are in the best position while entering this Web3 era. DTC has always been the answer.
Just got accepted on even yesterday I can’t wait to drop !!
Damien has always seemed like a bitter dude. It’s like he’s annoyed by everyone & everything. I stopped watching the MEC Podcast because I felt like they were looking down on producers that didn’t have the knowledge that they possess.
My saying. "Love it when they hate you; that's when you know you're doing good". If you weren't a factor, you wouldn't matter.
Damn those even biz campaigns are nuts... new band camp? That'd be sick
Very professional and to the point. Great video brother
i agree with you whole heartedly id love to have a conversation i think we can make a huge impact in community as well as the music industry
What’s crazy is I thought the discussion was admirable. Y’all can agree to disagree there’s no shame in it. You’re not a “scammer” because you have a different opinion. You’re also not a scammer for leaving some of your music up on other streaming sites. It’s your business 🙏🏾🤷🏾♂️.
At this point everyone has to do what’s best for them. I’m currently trying to get my business in order for my art as well. 🙏🏾Peace
Don’t worry about the odd ball talking about you as if you a stranger Curtis you keep moving onto better things and just like you said “I want to grow” keep growing brother the word is built for successes and goal getters
Keep doin u CK the people loving u
Snoop Dogg just said he Streamed Billions streams and only earned 45, 000 dollars. That’s peanuts 🥜
Who is that in the outro song and who produced that beat? that's a cold ass joint
I don’t know what that dudes problem was but everything you said sounded like freaking facts and he was like mmmmm no.
The guy who helped bring piracy to the blockchain is the same guy who started Spotify I am pretty sure. This guy has been getting rich off of making artists poor forever, this stuff doesn’t surprise me at all
I remember being put on to Hopsin in high school by a homie, then years later Hop exposed him for basically stealing from FV. Money and power really changes people for the worst.
Lets work!
Hey what's the link to your artist channel you were talking about?

Awesome Information! 💛
You can tell they haven't been watching your content. They would have known better to try you.. Props to you King...
Curtiss brother, you don't get it... I mean, you do get it, but you don't get IT! The spiritual aspects of music & the entire industry is what results into the natural. It's Biblical, satan manipulation of the masses to lead them astray, light vs darkness, lovers of self and lovers of money vs those that love their neighbor and want to help. May God bless you and show you this and more while you detox. Darkness is the origin of the music industry and those top owners are all in darkness/on satan his side or what ya'll call illuminati. Illuminati in music is made mythical, the real group are called the illuminators, you can trace them back in history + you will find the ties to the industry etc. I don't say this normally but that's why I didn't except my multi M dollar contract and decides to build everything up myself to be able to do it completely 100% outside of the industry. They won't get a cent out of me and all I need is 300 people backing me up giving/supporting. I will be set for life and they will get everything I can give for the next 12 year (that's as far as I'll go here on my strategy). But it's possible, the lies and the darkness fooled all creators as if we need them, we don't, we need to have quality, that attracts quantity which makes you able to sell. But it must be more than music alone, it has to be music and how do you help and better your audience...
ask any one of them to spit a bar
bro i am so tired of spamming this but i will do it one last time. WHERE CAN I GET YOUR ALBUM ? I would love to test out that sample pack . your videos have no link to it

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
your def not crazy bro
25 minutes in and I haven’t heard one lie
hit me up if you want to try something slightly different. incorporating what your doing know but im seeing some blindspots that could be pulling in money.
i got an idea about a way you can use your platform to take your ideals and figure out a way to weave it into a side economy from streaming. while noble it leaves you at risk of lower and lower sales. BUT I'm telling you 1,000,000 streams ain't shit compared to 1000 true fans. what did tyler the creator do? he got a bunch of like minded folks who at the time were laughed at? for real no joke i think i might be able to help you.......i aint asking for no contract. just a trust if it works or you like my ideas you hook me up
Should have just doubled down on your message. This video is not a good look to most older cats. But then again we’re probably not your demographic. Btw- I find agreement in both the messaging. Yours and Dames. But you taking his critique about you this personal is lame.
Omg
Man… this is disappointing that they did this to you.
LMFAO HOW YOU REGRET A CONVERSATION THAT YOU ASKED FOR
But it wasn’t a str8 answer tho when he asked my brother. You’re creative with them words..but aye the game is the game
CK gave the straightest answer possible. He said, "Yes". Then he paused and looked directly in the camera.
"Is it marketing?" "Yes... +AND+ it's also some other things." The problem is that Dame 'turned his ears off' the second he heard that 'yes'.
+IF I was being cynical+, I would say that that exposed Dame's real motive. His ENTIRE point of holding a "debate", in the first place, was to spend an hour and a half EXPOSING the fact that CK was using a "war against Spotify" as part of an album rollout.
When CK said, "yes", Dame's ENTIRE plan was derailed and everything that he had planned to say was moot/pointless.
+IF I was being cynical+ I would say that that's the real reason Dame said, afterward, that he no longer wanted to have the interview once CK said 'yes'. Because he'd spent weeks planning to counter a right-hook... but when CK threw a straight-left... shook. It was like the end of '8 Mile' for Dame... "I DO live in a trailer park..."
IF I was being cynical, of course.
Hella long so I’m honestly not going to read all of this but fa sho. Good dialogue family.
@@WeHaveTheBeats ok.
@@WeHaveTheBeatsreading shouldn't be hard bro
@@WeHaveTheBeatslol it wasn't that long
ummm...
bro these dudes dont even write they freestyle and punch in every 2 bars and the streamimg sites and record companies getting a big bag off a generation of drug addicts and gun violent youth
Cut um
