I remember having the harem stuff happen to me in P3P. When Yuko came in I didn't think anything of it. When she started talking about their relationship i started getting nervous. When Chihiro came I was sweating buckets. When she mentioned the MC walking her home I was having a heart attack. Luckily at that point the MC used his ace card: the bro-out attack. At least Amamiya had Brojiro on the case to smooth things over later somehow, Narukami just got murdered by Nanako. Then again, in Narukami's case, all of the girls somehow ended up blaming themselves for the situation, with Chie even straight up telling him she was "fine" (not really) with him cheating on her....so in a way he got off scot-free....if you count 5 crushed souls as free...
My Headcanon is that Sojiro did something similar when he was a teen and decided to give a fellow player some support. Why else wouldn't he kill the man for playing with his daughter feelings?

I may add that in Persona 3 you had no choice BUT to be a blatant womanizer. You weren't given a friendship route for the girls. It wasn't until Persona 4 where the game gives you the option to befriend or date, and it wasn't until Persona 4 Golden that two timing even mattered in Persona 4 (where they finally added the Valentine Date event where you have to crush everyone's hearts and then get owned by Nanako's poison). That said, in P3P's female story you are also given the option to date or befriend and if you date several of your teammates they will start having very awkward talks inside Tartarus.
This may sound crazy but whenever I play P3, I never max all social links, I always pick one female route (Mitsuru) and stick with it, the rest of my social links are bro's. I myself could never do a harem playthrough.
You definitely gotta feel bad for everyone, but the ones that strike me hardest are Naoto, who is clearly aware of the cheating yet tells you how she feels through that heartbreaking scene and Futuba, sobbing as she hands you very thoughtful homemade chocolate shaped like Morgana.

I'm surprised that people consider Persona 5's scene "worse" (in the sense of severity or pain). Yes, Joker getting his ass kicked may seem painful, but it's focused on a more humorous side (with things like all the girls being suspicious of seeing you with Ryuji instead of being suspicious of all the other girls in the room, or Sojiro saving your ass), yet in Persona 4 there's nothing funny, no snarky comments or a comical scene (Nanako's chocolate or Yosuke-Teddie-Kanji scene happens regardless of the Harem route), it's just having to see how each of the main girls feel bad about themselves, things like Chie accepting the idea that you can cheat on her because of the lack of confidence she has in herself as a woman, or Naoto implying that she already realized she's being cheated on, but prefers to lie to herself to not feel worse than she already does. In my opinion the Harem route in Persona 4 will always be the most painful.

If the game actually gives you a bad ending, and even erases all your progress so you don't even get to keep the money you earned and weapons, that sounds like an even crueler punishment

I may add that in Persona 3 you had no choice BUT to be a blatant womanizer. You weren't given a friendship route for the girls. It wasn't until Persona 4 where the game gives you the option to befriend or date, and it wasn't until Persona 4 Golden that two timing even mattered in Persona 4 (where they finally added the Valentine Date event where you have to crush everyone's hearts and then get owned by Nanako's poison). That said, in P3P's female story you are also given the option to date or befriend and if you date several of your teammates they will start having very awkward talks inside Tartarus.
This may sound crazy but whenever I play P3, I never max all social links, I always pick one female route (Mitsuru) and stick with it, the rest of my social links are bro's. I myself could never do a harem playthrough.

I'm surprised that people consider Persona 5's scene "worse" (in the sense of severity or pain). Yes, Joker getting his ass kicked may seem painful, but it's focused on a more humorous side (with things like all the girls being suspicious of seeing you with Ryuji instead of being suspicious of all the other girls in the room, or Sojiro saving your ass), yet in Persona 4 there's nothing funny, no snarky comments or a comical scene (Nanako's chocolate or Yosuke-Teddie-Kanji scene happens regardless of the Harem route), it's just having to see how each of the main girls feel bad about themselves, things like Chie accepting the idea that you can cheat on her because of the lack of confidence she has in herself as a woman, or Naoto implying that she already realized she's being cheated on, but prefers to lie to herself to not feel worse than she already does. In my opinion the Harem route in Persona 4 will always be the most painful.
