Hi Ash, I can kick in what I learned in film scoring school: when editing 2001, there was some classical music clipped in just so Kubrick and the editor would have something to listen to while they worked, but then Kubrick got so attached to those pieces that he didn't want to use the score that was composed for the film. Hard to imagine the film without those pieces!
