Awesome mate. Exactly what I want to be doing with my kid in a brand new ‘yak. Any reccos on min equipment? Just got a pryml predator and life jackets. What would you get first? Wheels, sonar, electric motor, net??
@@OneInterestedPerson At the moment I troll the lures with the kids, quite easy technique. Minimum equipment I would recommend: - Wheels for the kayak (makes life so much easier to carry the kayak down to the water) - a decent sized net (so if you get a decent toga you can net it) - rod holders that you can mount on the track system to hold the fishing rods - sounder that can do traditional sonar, downscan (for structure) and side scan(find those schools that you might pass right next to). This means you will also need a battery. * Sounder is’t necessary but it’s helpful mainly for knowing the water depth and what is beneath you as you move along. Sometimes you might go over areas that are thick with weed and it’s only 1 meter deep. So the lure will get snagged in the weed. You can also use it to keep to certain areas like trolling along a weed edge. * I wouldn’t invest in an electric motor straight away, give the paddling a go first, test everything out and give the fishing a go. Then you can fine tune the setup and go all out 😉
Thanks mate. After the maiden voyage yesterday - I just bagged some wheels today. Yak was heavy enough without fishing gear and a decent feed. What fish finder do you use? I figure holding off and getting a better finder than just a cheap one will be worth it.
