- H'yelllooo and happy new year! I'm back with another 'messing around with hair because it's fun and that's science' video. This time I wanted to show you how I do my Victorian & Edwardian hairstyles with short hair. I was pretty concerned when I chopped it all off if I was going to be able to keep doing them and so I wanted to share 3 different ways I've been sorta faking them!
I've gotten some tutorial requests for my recent looks so figured I'd cover them all in one video, hehehe.

Would literally watch Rachel drink an iced coffee for 15 min and do nothing else. I really love how transparent Rachel is with taking her time on projects/being in the best headspace to make content. Not many creators are and it makes watching her all the more wholesome and comforting to watch. Much rather wait for a project she is really excited on than a rushed one! (and her filler content slaps too!)

I’ve only died my hair regularly for a year of my life. I haven’t died it in 7 years. My hair STILL isn’t as shiny as Rachel’s! She definitely has powers she doesn’t admit to, but I think most of us already know that. 😆
She might use a lower beaching amount and just sit longer. Cuz if you go for 20-30 it doesn't fry hair but takes a lot longer and a few tries

I, in fact, actually was watching some of your older videos from the vault this week. Lol. One thing I want to say, with the utmost love and appreciation, is that you are exactly the same in those videos as you are now. A lot of times, you will sadly see people become a "Hollywood" version of themselves when their channel gains a certain number of followers. You, Rachel, are still 100% your authentic self, and I fully admire that. ❤️❤️❤️
I’d say the only thing that’s changed is she seems to have grown more confident and settled into herself now compared to her old videos. Its still very much the same person but she has a quietness and uncertainty in them that isn’t there anymore.
@@WaffleCrab Agree to both of you and I hope if any change happens at all to her then that would be Rachel realizing and easing into the fact that all of us love anything she provides and that it is totally okay taking breaks and creating (equally interesting) "filler" videos and such and just caring for herself.
My hair is what has been called “exorbitantly long.” So long I sat on it recently & almost broke my neck. I always fantasize about lopping it all off & this makes me want to go for it all the more.
My hair used to go to my butt and I got half the length cut and I love it. It's still around shoulder length but its just so freeing
You should watch the Morgan Donner video where she cuts her super long hair into 500 years of haircuts.
@@noaccount2494 I’m so glad you’re happy with yours! That sounds like a good idea for me too. The last hair cut I had was 8 years ago & it was an unmitigated disaster. I asked for a few layers at the bottom & bangs. I left with something akin to a mullet. It was so awful I’ve been afraid to let anyone near me with shears since. Hopefully I can find a beautician that won’t leave me looking like achy breaky heart era Billy Ray Cyrus. 🤣

I had hair to my thighs and cut it to my chin. I really liked it! I’ve since grown it out again to my waist, and even though I’ve found I prefer long hair, I don’t regret cutting it at all. I encourage you to cut it if you think it would be fun. It’s just hair! It will grow!
My grandma is 92 and was being so cute -- she tried to show me how to do my hair in a pseudo french twist, and it was so cute because she's trying to teach me how to do this, I'm going along with it, and then my mom is trying to give me pointers so I can do it better, but I'm just mouthing to her, "I'm never gonna do this," because I hate my hair up. So I just indulged her a bit and this made me think of it. Watching someone do a hair tutorial I'm never gonna do, because it's sweet and soothing.

Min only curls with those over night foam rollers that she uses, and mine gets sat one when it isn't up. It takes a million curlers (and 2 hrs to get em in) and then it's too heavy to stay once I let it out. Tbh, not really worth it anymore.

In my previous career as an archivist, I went on a tour of an archival storage facility deep underground. Disney (and other movie studios) actually have literal vaults across the country. They would temporarily remove old films for restoration/digitization for resale. Our tour group wasn't allowed to go into the Disney vault, but we went into others.

As a hairdresser that has loved styling my daughters hair as she's grown up,she always got comments on how lovely it's looked as not the normal plats/ponys/ headbands,she has curly hair which helped and still to this day wears it herself in completely unique styles. Be confident and be yourself. Xxx

That first style was complemented by the hat well (though many women in history had wore them as a matter of course)--and fake hair in upper echelons were common too, so no cheating there!

I have really short hair with bangs just like you and it does the weird flippy thing as well. At first I was annoyed with it but now I think its kinda cute. Of course I don't curl my hair like you do. Love the different hairstyles you've figured out how to do. I've been struggling with ways to do my own hair and this really helped!

Maybe I'm a weirdo but I kind of love all the different shades in your hair. Maybe it's just the way it picks up on camera but it looks really cool and adds a lot of depth. Also, I love the way the 60s flip looks on you!

I used to always say that as a kid, teen, and young adult. This year my 7 year old nephew said it to me when we were parting ways at 10 PM on New Years Eve. It was the cutest thing, to me, because he genuinely thought he was the first person to ever come up with that phrase. 🥰🥰

Hi Rachel! Video suggestion! When Bridgerton season 3 is premiering this spring, you should do a Bridgerton look! I know regency isn't your favorite, but a good conflict makes for a good story, right? Also, I am positive you would sew a better-fitting dress than any of the dresses in the actual show (the waist goes on top of the underboob, like, hello?!). Please, I am craving some good regency fashion videos. (If not a dress, what about men's fashion? Those embroidered waistcoats, ammiright?)

This was weirdly reassuring to me? I chopped a huge chunk of my hair off so it would be more manageable while I did surgery and recovery, and while that was a great idea, recently I've been getting the sads about how little I can do with it. Now I'm feeling more hopeful about what I can do as it gets longer 😊

Rachel, I have to say, there is nothing you do not look fabulous in. Whether it's Victorian, Edwardian, or circa 1940, your hair is to die for. One of these days I will venture into enhancing my natural waves with curlers. Frankly, all your styles are beautiful, including clothes, hair, makeup, etc. Not hard to do when the canvas (you) is gorgeous.
I love watching these historic videos that Rachel makes, just because I imagine having someone from those early eras coming to the future and watching these videos. Either being absolutely delighted or straight up Appalled on her wonderful personality :D

I have had Rachel saying"bwen da wig" and "Goooood enough" stuck in my head rent free for an ungodly amount of time now. And I'm not mad about it.
You might try looking at different curl setting patterns if you’re still using the same on you used on your long hair. The direction you roll your hair can have a big difference in how it brushes out especially on short hair.

Sorry if it a bit strange, but I need to mention it: There is something very satisfying about the way you drink from your mug. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but each time I see you take a sip I start craving a hot drink as well.

I love the short hair and love it on myself as well. I’m a redhead and dying hair red is not easy. I started going to a stylist once my natural color started fading. Home color looked blotchy and by the time the difficult to color parts processed other areas got too colored. I have had success with Overtone to add vibrancy and color my roots between salon visits. Plus my stylist adds highlights which brighten my complexion and helps blend the white hairs in.
Nicole Rudolph did a UA-cam video on the 1880s craze for short hair which was so interesting. She has a lot of historic portraits of women rocking their short hair. Of course the men flipped out and acted like it was the end of world. The women pointed out that since they put their hair up anyway, it didn’t matter. Others rebelled in a fantastic way and made sure their hair cut was obvious. Then they got their portraits taken showing their hair off.
I love a futz around video! I also love videos that break down some of the aspects of your transformations and cosplay like hairstyles and makeup and the detail pieces.
As a short hair having lady this is a timely video!

I mean, you say it's "fake" historic hair, but people have been using additional hair pieces and other accessories to add more volume and achieve complex styles for centuries! So, not fake at all. Actually pretty spot-on.

That was a lot of fun! It reminds me of the time I was six and didn’t want to comb my long, ratty hair (nor wash the dirt from under my fingernails. Hey, I played hard and was tired, ok? While arguing with my mother, I said something like “when I am a grownup, I won’t need to brush my hair ‘cause I’ll be wearing wigs! And I won’t need to clean my fingernails since the nail polish will hide everything!”
Love the curls on top of just your hair. It would be so cute to wear this spring with your sun dresses. You amaze me with your talent.
