I used a rolling hitch when I tied my first halyard and it seemed to work well. This looks like an interesting variation. Cool. Rolling hitch can be moved around but not when under tension, so I like it for a halyard knot
Lee, I think I’ve watched all of your videos now and I will be sailing/racing a Sunfish for the first time this Sunday. Thanks for all of your hard work putting these videos out!
@ScottsdaleMark good luck, have fun…. If raving for the first time against more experienced racers, focus on just sailing, having fun and the whole process…. An old wise man told me in my second year of racing, “it takes 1,000 races to get good”. He definitely is correct and may be even more :). Enjoy and thanks for watching and the comment.
Depends on jow high the boom off the deck you want it…. In the lowest height off the deck: 106-107” from the lowest part of the metal of the upper spar). The tack)…. If you want it higher. Go down to 96” 90”, what ever you want…. There is no set height. I wiuld suggest, as low as possible and at the same time comfortable for one to het under the boom. Which will depend on your flexibility, ability and if you have a window in your sail.
@@LeeSideSailingIf the lower boom is really high off the deck, does that make it more likely for the boat to be blown over? Sailing (trying to sail) Alcort SS Mark 2

Thanks 👍
Love it! Works great with the Forster rig (aka adjustable Jen’s)
Excellent! Most people love the Hankster 2, too!
Adding the bowline as the stopper is an awesome addition to an already top tier knot. Gotta go... I've got some bowlines to tie. 🤣
Definitely works double duty here. Thanks!

where should you tie this on the spar?

@@southpawje the high sail does make sailing more difficult as the winds build.
I tried this today. The Halyard kept sliding.
Maybe it was my line.
(5mm Robline Sirius 500 line)
I use a piece of gorilla tape to mark where i want it…. Ts important to have a clean spar too…. Over time the knot constricts and will not move. :).
Try some extra turns on either side
