      Lol, going an entire season without a rebuild is good way to be slow! Most guys I knew had them rebuilt every 2 races at the regional level, and every 3-4 races at the state/regional level.

      With a can.. sure you could go all year at the club level and be competitive

    Well done! My father just gave me a very clean top kart with KT100 from my youth racing days. Very excited to learn more about it as and adult, and rebuild /restore the entire thing! Thanks for the info!

    I sort of had an ahah moment when you said a flex pipe that is to short causes the engine to feel sluggish at low rpms but seems to open up on high rpm use, i just thought that’s how the engine was. Thanks for the great info

    I still run a kt-100 it's a dying class sadly. Very cool video. My mentor said exactly all these things. But he never had a engine cut in half to actually visualize it.

    Nice work, can you provide con rod measurings? I believe it's has 20mm crank pin and uses 14mm piston pin, it's 100mm long, but I don't know the width on base on bearings ends

    What do you guys charge for that type of clutch system its what i want and need for the type of go cart frame to run better and from what i hear it keeps unnecessary heat from the engine to the clutch. Also i just noticed that you guys are in Indiana and its where i just bought my 2 go cart kt100s i i have a feeling they might have seen your shop i noticed everything your talking about the blueprinting has been done to these kt100s and apparently the guy i got it from his dad used to race them 10 years ago. He said something about his dad having 2 of theses suckers on one go cart 😂

    Hi! I've started racing a Kt100 over here in New Zealand on a dirt track, I got the kt because of their simplicity. What data logger do you recommend to help me tune my kart? Your vids have been extremely helpful. Thanks.

      If anyone sees this 2 years later. Pretty much the standard in karting is the mychron. The mycrhon 4 is still a great gauge and has the capabilities to connect via usb to a computer. You could spend thousands of dollars on peripherals and sensors to acquire all the data you want.

    16-17 hp out of a 100cc is not much considering the fact that you make 14k rpm, most European engines produce around 28 hp.

    • @foxvalleykart2743
      @foxvalleykart2743 6 місяців тому

      These Yamahas are piston-ported engines and do not produce the same hp as reed valve or rotary valve engines. Secondly, I have Dyno’d hundreds of engines of all types and our eddy-current Dyno is calibrated to NBS standards. I am absolutely confident that our numbers are correct. I see some engine builders who say their Yamahas produce 25-28 hp and some people are gullible enough to believe that. Made up or manipulated numbers are just that; made up or manipulated.
      Thanks for watching.

      I’m absolutely not saying that you are lying, or doubting your numbers, but I know for sure that there are engines of the same displacement and doing the same rpm’s that crank out at least 50% more HP from a piston port engine, I don’t know what timing regulations and port width you are limited to, but I see so much more potential HP’s if you could use the full timing and port width potential, imagine what you could do on a reed valve or rotary valve induction system.

    Even 16-17 HP is Weak. An older YZ100 engine just clobbers that. I suppose you have rules BUT why not convert to reeds, run a 30mm Mikuni VM and a tuned pipe?

      How to upgrade a kt100cc

    • @prevenger
      @prevenger 3 роки тому +2

      It's a spec engine for the Perdue Grand Prix and must conform to the AKRA standards for a Yamaha Kt100s class thus can't run a Mikuni as a Walbro WB3A carb is the requirement. I do find it sad that there is so little innovation allowed in what is supposed to be an engineering exercise. (With the deepest "engineering" exercise generally being attaching a cage to a ready made sprinter kart frame, finding a way to mount a headrest, a 3 sided firewall between the fuel tank and driver that must be 3/4" taller than the tank, and then meeting the minimum 3/4" ride height requirement with the driver.) The main "innovation area" allowed in the rules being either a standalone gearbox or CVT so long as it doesn't leak oil. Both unfortunately add more rotating weight and rob power from the diminutive kt100s neither are good when trying to achieve getting down to the 350lb weight minimum and maximize the power from the engine. I know how to setup an autonomous tuning system for both the carburetor needles and the exhaust if adjustable convergent cones (Slippy pipe) or variable length (movable while in motion) header/flex were allowed, but don't think that it would be allowed since they seem to have a blanket ban on on-track electronics use and almost no karting organization allows slippys or adjustable headers. (Even though as written the spirit of those rules are for preventing electronics as a distraction eg. phones, mp3 players, non-communication radios. I'm sure they would just include a control system and stepper motors that the driver doesn't even directly interact with under those rules as banned. Even though it would remove the driver distraction of tuning the carb.)
