We stayed in Morocco almost 3 months and in this list we give you our honest opinion about what we loved and what we hated about Morocco.

But in our almost 3 months there we stayed at 3 (really nice) airbnbs and 4 hotel/riads and all of them had spotty internet. It's a shame really. Maybe we were just unlucky and if you moved there you could arrange a very good internet plan though. Hard for us to say though. Good luck with where ever you choose to settle!

I was about to say the same thing about the internet. I've traveled a bit and I can say that the 4G in Morocco is quite good you can even get data in the middle of nowhere. The problem is the type of accommodations you have been at. In the medinas the fiber is almost nowhere to be seen and it's quite normal they have to dig underneath the old structures which takes time. The data on the other hand is there but because the density of the population in the Medina, the buildings being stuck together, and the lack of towers (because of the space issue) makes it difficult to find a strong signal especially at night.
Other than that alot of people have fiber which is extremely fast and as a digital nomad (now established in Morocco for a few years) I can work from cafes and even the beach in taghazout.
For the shitty hustlers part, I would say that I do understand about 10% of them because it has been tough this past couple of years, but for the 90% of them they deserve to be jailed because they're just after that quick buck and you'll see them in Egypt too. Some people are finding ways to offer a service in exchange of money as a food guide or a tour guide etc.. but those shitheads makes hard even for the honest people. The government used to punish them but now after two years of strict covid lockdown they're turning a blind eye for the moment. Which socks.

About internet, there are mainly 4 Internet Service Providers (local and foreign, WIFI or 4G), each one may cover better than the others at a certain location, so maybe you didn't choose the right one at the right region.
And you said the truth, in very touristy places, there may be people who try to scam tourists, and even locals, these people can be severely punished if one complains to the authorities. As Moroccans we don't want such thing happen, apologizes.

If you see all of the videos we made in Morocco we did fun things, met amazing people, saw beautiful sights and ate delicious food. We mention one or two negative experiences we had in over 2 months and it's the only thing many viewers are seeing in this video. It's very strange to us. Also to expect every person who travels to a country to have the exact same experience is bizarre.

But sometimes the bad things that happened in your trip turn to be the best story to tell after the experience, it's boring to have everything everywhere evertime that (OK). this is why movies and documentary look for the surprises. Why? Because your viewers will love them. It's the charming parts and pieces of cakes that people miss and they will fellow your steps to explore them.... so always do not focus on good things, but bad moments will rise your vlogs up to the level...
    Keep up doing good job.

I used to go ( 4 times) to Marrakech my favourite place in the world!! My absolutely time is between end of May,beginning of June!! The wifi was excellent in the Riad that I always stay in de middle of the Medina in Marrakech! There was a film and music festival around late May so they had these huge stalls in the Jenma El Fna square and it was the best food ever!! I don’t really talk to people there after my first time and first day there, I got stalked and harassed by people trying to sell me things, but as an African, I know how to deal with them! I just simply ignore them and give them down looks and they eventually leave me alone!! And I travel solo! The henna ladies tried to charge me €100 for it, I gave her €20 and left her screaming there!! But it’s still my favourite place ever

However, yes... Social infrastructure and conservative religion etc is still rampant there. As well as it is poor. Moroccoans were always proud of their "tea"... With minth i remember..
Would i recommend ppl go there.... Hmm.. Yes and no. If you are interested and want to see old history and take part of really good ancient culture for sure by all means go there. The Hassan II Mosque is a sight to see and visit on the Atlantic in Casa. But for general life with the busses and and street life its horrible. Its a poor islamic country that still has ways to go.
But that is my experience. Yours might be different than mine. Go there yourself and find out. Live and let live.

At no point in the video did we say that crime didn't exist elsewhere in the world(especially the US). We simply stated what our experience was within the Marrakech Medina during a few days of our stay there and how it was non stop. We even put the blame on ourselves for our reactions to that experience. Of course scams and hustles happen everywhere. Marrakech just happened to be magnified by how often it happened. Overall Morocco was an amazing country and we would love to return one day. We just know that if we want to do the Marrakech Medina again it would be with a local tour guide and not on our own.

As a Moroccan, ever since Marrakech made it to international status as a top tourist destination, it kind of ruined it for everyone. When top travel blogs started their pump campaign of the city, it signaled the start of the fall from grace. It’s now just a typical tourist trap. My family owns property in Marrakech that we hardly visit. Jamaa Lefna is just an open circus where everyone is screaming for money. The city lost its charm!

I'm so sorry you feel that way. We visited Marrakech twice and know that there are many interesting things about the city and many kind and wonderful people who live there. But you're right about certain parts of the Medina, they are filled with tourists and those that prey on tourists. Too much tourism can be a bad thing for a city as many other cities around the world are seeing too.

my best advice is to get to know some Moroccans who can help You out, not those who do it for money, or virtue signaling but real and genuine good people who would love guests and care about their country's reputation more than any personal gains (except friendship which is a great personal gain i guess lol)!

Tagine and couscous are history for morrocans and are among the best in the world it's not a normal food or just a vegetebles used in cooking but it's eaten in morocco in many century's that is why it must be respected

What we stated regarding tagine and couscous is only our opinion and our personal tastes. I would hope that nobody watching a youtube video is going to mistake us or any other UA-camr for culinary masters. I also think some are missing the bigger picture of what we were saying. The Moroccan cuisine is so diverse and delicious on so many levels. We just preferred many of the other dishes instead of tagine or couscous which we really didn't care for. Thank you for the valuable feed back

@Chems Shop. You need to rewatch the video then. We NEVER said it was for kids. We said the vegetables in a tagine had a baby food consistency. We expressed our OPINION on tagine, nothing more and never claimed that we are the answer to all things food. We also clearly stated in the video that we felt the Moroccan cuisine was extremely diverse with many great dishes that we preferred over a tagine.
Internet, cell data was not the only issue. We had wifi in Riads, AirBnb's and hotels that were all bad. In Rabat we supposedly had fibre internet that was also awful. There have been many comments from both foreigners and Moroccans suggesting that we simply had bad luck, and we are thinking they are correct. It is not the first country where we experienced bad internet, but it is the first country where we experienced it throughout the entire country which would lead one to believe that it is just bad everywhere.
As to you leaving, we did not intend to offend anybody and would love for everybody to follow our journey. But by all means if you are that offended unsubscribe. We thank you for watching and wish you nothing but the best in life

There is an important thing about Egypt In Egypt, it is not allowed to use a camera or take pictures of anything without a photography license, and even if you get a license, you will be stopped by the police over and over again
Note: I do not try to distort the image of Egypt no at all I have visited Egypt, and it is a beautiful country but this is the only problem I faced

    • @PureDetour
      @PureDetour  2 роки тому

Thanks so much for your advice! We have been in Egypt a few weeks now and have found that the photographs and video are mostly OK as long as we are careful to avoid sensitive subjects (police, security, etc) and we have never been asked for a license. But our cameras are small, and just the usual tourist size, maybe if they were bigger we would have more problems. One thing is that the security at many famous sites won't allow us to have our microphone on our camera, and we don't understand why.

unfortunately some tourists do not emphasize the history of Morocco because the first university in the world is in fes that Moroccans built a model of peaceful government in Andalusia in which Jewish Christians and Muslims lived in harmony for eight centuries and the list goes on to take stock of history we should not forget that some tourists sexually abuse poor children in Morocco Moroccans don't rob people and the local culture is specific and different from one city to another and you always have to negotiate the prices by concluding a sales contract and if we don't agree we don't get robbed either ..Moroccans do not burn churches or synagogues as extremists did in the West morocco did not massacre the indians to build its state .. because in some countries the children of the natives were killed within the church to replace the population and since then the indians have become a minority on their own territories Thank God we are not givers of moral lessons but as they say when the rabbit is hunted it is the hunter who tells the story
