It was disgusting the way Mallet fed DvH and Gaffie to the ABs.
Gaffie was the Frans Steyn of 1998. He should have be nurtured.
Great talk Gaffie! Your attitude to adversity is remarkable.
I wish you had told the story of your childhood and upbringing. People don't realise how tough it was

Makes Rassie’s impact on Bok rugby even more impressive. He has not indulged in the English / Afrikaans …… black white politics. Just simply taken the most talented South Africans with a plan to the top in rugby. No doubt in my mind, the greatest team led by the greatest South African coach. And it shows. For us followers, very few surprises and disappointments. So so impressive to see the rainbow team with totally the best player’s winning.

In all fairness to some of the other coaches, Rassie joined the Bok setup when the democracy of SA was more mature and he had merit players to choose from and with social media and modern technology most of the guys are more aligned culturally.
Not saying Rassie and Jacques are not great but I do think Nick and others had more challenges in a time where there were wider gaps in the cultures and interacting with fans and players was not as easy as it is today. Then you could only send a player a text. Today you can send them a whatsapp with a video and do a lot of coaching online including free calls anywhere in the world.

Sorry to say but Kolisi Trevor Njakana and Mbonambi are definitely not even number 03 in their respective positions. Am is only effective with a strong inside centre which creates the open space for him. Orrie is a joke he is not even close to a club level player. Discrimination is alive.

@@louisvanniekerk2612 I believe these types of disgusting comments need to be deleted.
Bongi, was an outstanding player in RWC 2023, his work rate was incredible. Awesome nothing less. Kolisi was so impressive as the South African representative, on top, maybe a little off but Impressive to the world as a Captain. I will not offer any isolated criticism with a racist connotation, it’s disgusting in 2024, so much has been done to remove race. 2023 RWC Bok team is the best team South Africa has ever fielded. Congratulation Rassie & the full support team.

@@louisvanniekerk2612 Kolisi has such a high work rate. Check the player stats of the 2019 final. He carried more metres and made more tackles than Pieter-Steph. Who would leave Pieter-Steph out the team? Bongi is right up there with Marx. Ask Marx himself. And I'm biased because I've known Malcolm since the day he was born. Nyakane puts punch in the scrum and has demolished a number of opponents. Am has selflessly created and made tries. Where is the problem here? I don't see any. RasNaber also have a different outlook wrt players. They couldn't care less if there is a better player. They want soldiers. Those who will put everything out there for team and country. Far more important because it's those guys who pull through in tough games and led us to be on te right side of those three one point wins.

NM always had no space for players of smaller stature. He suggested that the only way Aploon and Kolbe can make the springbok team if they play in the nr. 9 jersey. Thank you Dr. Erasmus!

Scapegoat? The step-up from provincial to international rugby is massive!!! Don't blame Nick Mallet!!!

Hi Stephen. I must be honest, Gaffie really inpressed me in this interview. I think the one thing that stood out for me was how young he was (and naive to a degree). I think this and perhaps a lack of emotional intelligence (or perhaps just empathy) from the coaches combined to really knock him and Dave von Hoesslin. I honestly don't think there was anything malicious from either side, both then and now. Thank you for watching!

Nick inherited du Preez’s team , he failed when that team aged and he had to choose his own team. Utter failure.

Only a blind or willfully ignorant person would not have seen that Nick threw Gaffie and Dave under the bus, it was as clear as daylight!!! He literally torpedoed their careers when they were barely out of the starting blocks. I'm (still) a huge Mallet fan, but his credibility certainly took a knock in my and most fan's books with how he treated them, not to mention Gary Teichmann 🤘

I watched most of these interviews and they have overall been somewhat positive. Players have seemed to like or dislike coaches depending on where their careers went and have tended to blame coaches for that when it was not positive and took little ownership for their own outcomes. The two best interviews were Japie Mulder and Jacques Olivier - they never bad mouthed anyone - especially Jacques who saw the positive in everyone.
By the way this was a very positive interview - not having a go at Gawie. Just a general comment but the way the game was run in the past and the present you can't really compare. Its very different.

Just be careful of the click-bait guys. That also puts people off. You said in the caption "Rugby: Nick Mallet made me and Dave the scapegoats against the All Blacks!", and Gaffie said in the interview "Never had I have a coach not back me." I got the message the Gaffie did not want to bad-mouth Nick Mallet.

I never like that Nick Mallet. The Boks spiraled down-ward's when he became the Couch!!!

    • @bunnychowmuncher
      @bunnychowmuncher 23 дні тому +1

Yeah the Boks only won 17 tests in a row under Mallet whose only mistakes were questioning the price of tickets for fans (which means he was trying to help us at his expense) and listening to Alan Solomons regarding Bobby Skinstad vs Gary Teichmann. Otherwise he could have also won the World Cup which we lost the semi to a fluke long range drop goal by Steven Larkham. Don't let the facts or lets say reality get in the way of your lekka story.
