Back in the 1960s when many of the Fisher pens were designed, almost all men wore button-up shirts with pockets. Shirt pockets is where pens were carried. I even had a pocket protector...ha! Now, many men wear jeans and t-shirts and carry their pen clipped to their jeans pocket which puts a lot more stress on the clip and the barrel of the pen. Retractable pens really are not designed for anything but shirt pockets IMO. My recommendation for an EDC pants pocket pen would be a Fisher bullet pen with a cap, not retractable. Except for coin and key scratches, they hold up great and are designed to live at the bottom of a pants pocket. I even accidentally put one through the washer without consequences. Great EDC pen! I especially like my .375 caliber bullet pen for pants carry. It is heavy, well made, and gets lots of comments when I pull it out to write with it. It's about $25.
Nowadays there are nearly no pens designed for shirt pockets. Most ballpoint pens are to long for shirt pockets and protrude too far from the top of the pocket.
Good review! From what I know, this is one of their flagship lower-end mass produced ballpoints, so it doesn't have that fancy documentation like the OG AG7. Unlike the AG7 that serves for astronauts, the cap-o-matic is meant to serve field workers so they made it significantly cheaper for something versatile and capable of performing in unorthodox platforms (cardboard boxes, rubber tires, etc.). The newer matte finish cap-o-matic gains some reputation among law enforcement agencies and first responders because they can buy a bunch load of it for significantly lower prices. Saw a lot of US army infantries employing this pen as well aside from their well-known Pilot G2 addiction. It may not have the same kinda historical value the AG7 has, but it actually serves much much more people living at the earth's surface. Have one on my own in all black "tactical" finish. It ain't exactly tactical, but strong finish nonetheless. Reliable, as it's supposed to.
I have been using the cap o matic all metal body version for about 4 years now. IMO, a seriously underrated pen. It was my every day pen for about4 years, until I discovered the ParkerJotterXL. Now I split my time between the cap o matic and the JotterXL.
Thanks again for your wonderful videos to we pen geeks, lol. I always love your videos on the Fisher pens. I have a vintage AG7 that has pin striping on it. I am using a modified Zebra JKLO gel refill in mine. Works well. I don't think these Cap-O-Matic pens get much attention. Thanks for highlighting them!
4:03 ...According to Amazon...the release date was 11 yrs ago in may 2012 for the CapOMatic I ordered the Fisher Space Pen Cap-O-Matic Space Pen, Chrome Cap with Space Shuttle Imprint, Black Barrel (S294) for $36 cad.
I love the looks of the cap o matic but I really hate the fisher but you can easily fit a zebra F701 refil in is to I keep the zebra refil in my matte black pen
Space Pens have a lifetime warranty. Send the Cerakote back to Fisher. At least reach out to them. They may just send you a new cap. Same with that vintage cap-o-magic. They may be able to fix it.
Never any luck with Fisher pens. Always left globs of ink on the page that smeared leaving a bad impression. Uni Ball Power Tank now my go to for use with waterproof notebooks. My everyday is a Sarasa R black body with Sarasa dry blue fine point refills taken from Sarasa Dry X20 Retractable Gel Pens. Cheers!
I've watched a few of your videos now and you seem like a pen Guru! Do you know if Hi-Tec C Coleto Lumio 4mm multipens can accept better ink? Everywhere I've read said the refills are proprietary but thought you might know better or know of a work around. Great content btw!
I always feel more comfortable writing with the plastic one's. I don't know why. But I think they have a warmer feel to them. I do live in a country that has cold winter's though. I might get the plastic cap o matic though in green.
Nice pen, much easier to use at work than the Bullet, but the wimpy click is a real mood killer Still one of my preferred pens at work because of the raw brass body option
Hello do you know WHY the Grey CERAKOTE BULLET pen Has the fisher USA logo...on it...BUT the black one DOES NOT ??? I can't find out why...I don't think the cheery red one has it on either ????
Hey Unsharpen, I'm looking to get into making pens, and I am going to purchase a Lathe next month. Once I get going with it I would love to send you one. Do you have any way I can contact you when the time comes? Warm wishes, Oscar
I would say years. I have multiple Fisher Space pens, and Fisher refills in other pens, but I rarely have to swap a refill because it's empty, even with my daily user.

Thanks for the comment. And yes, I think the cap o matic should get more attention!
Great Review, A fan of Fischer for decades... And they do last decades and forever (until you loose them)

I ordered the Fisher Space Pen Cap-O-Matic Space Pen, Chrome Cap with Space Shuttle Imprint, Black Barrel (S294) for $36 cad.
I always assumed that’s the day it went for sale on Amazon but still a good data point!

CapO'matic colored barrel, very similar to "Parker jotter" pr4 fits them too!

Yea many people prefer plastic, especially in fountain pens!
Nice pen, much easier to use at work than the Bullet, but the wimpy click is a real mood killer

Just got the military Fischer Space pen.
Since you repurchased the brass pen you had lost... would you do the same for the Cherry?
No, I'd go with the brass or matte black if I lost the cherry
Planning to get the full metal build, does the cap wobble?
When the ink is almost ended, does the tip leaks a lot? And can use g2 refills also?

The Olive one that I have also doesn’t have any marking on it.
@@arjunkumar-kg7il thank you
Hey Unsharpen,
I'm looking to get into making pens, and I am going to purchase a Lathe next month. Once I get going with it I would love to send you one. Do you have any way I can contact you when the time comes?
Warm wishes, Oscar
You can email through the website but please note I don’t accept gifts.
Can you not take it just to review it and send back?
Just curious, why don't you accept gifts?
how many days week moths is sufficient to completely finish its refill
I would say years. I have multiple Fisher Space pens, and Fisher refills in other pens, but I rarely have to swap a refill because it's empty, even with my daily user.
I thought I read "Crap-o-Matic"! LoL
