Somebody should GIVE HIM THE NOBEL PEACE PRICE!!!!!! Because in Norway - they never appreciate their own people - and Johan Galtung have been number 1 - in the spirit of Nobel himself and the Nordic cultural heritage of ethic and moral basic! May someone suggest him 2015?????????? PLEASE. If a Norwegian suggests someone, the fellow Norwegians never listens to their own voices. The same way as any prophet will never be considered to be a prophet in their own village. And now we are in a global village, and Johan Galtung should be heard and learned from!!! He is todays Gandi!
The danger of using the Paris killings against Muslim people Nasir Khan, January 8, 2015 Any person who commits a premeditated murder is held accountable for culpable homicide under the rules of criminal law. If any such murderer thinks his actions are in the service of some cause or has some other motives then he will still stand accused of the crime of unlawful killing. Only a court of law can find out about all the surrounding circumstances including the state of mind or the intention of the accused, in legalese the mens rea of the crime to ascertain his guilt. The abominable killings of twelve people in Paris by two men who are still at large has shaken the conscience of the world. That is a good thing that the world has reacted in this way. But unfortunately the world does not always react in this way when some powerful countries attack and kill innocent people in hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands. At the same time, it is also important to remember that the actions of these two men in no way can be ascribed to other people who by religion are Muslims and are spread all over the world. It is very easy for the media and some officials to blame Muslims and their religion, Islam, for any ghastly crimes by some individuals. In fact, the Paris killings are already being used by anti-Muslim forces to spread hatred and hostility against the Muslim people, who have nothing to do with these murders. The tragedy of the Paris murders should not be used to provoke hostility towards innocent Muslim people.
What the problem is seems to be missing in your statement. Islam is without doubt a religion that has not progressed because of the nature of it's doctrines and political and prescribed laws remaining unchallenged and questioned by the scholars and so called authorities in Islam. Those most at risk of feeling that force of challenging those doctrines are ex muslims and progressive muslims trying to change and move the religion forward. So we find a 7th century religion trying to live in a secular society where the separation of church and state has been long fought for. The west is aware from it's own past that under any religious rule the people are oppressed and social progression is static. Religion including islam has to be told, that in a civilised society and a secular society you have to deal with being offended because people have different views and different beliefs. So that needs to be the bottom line of a free society. Islam is an idea, and ideology and these ideas and ideologies can and should be scrutinised and questioned, satire and mockery are part of that process. So people in a secular civilised society have a right to freedom of speech even if that speech offends. Islam needs to adhere to those secular principles and not try to always seek out special treatment. Islam needs to grow up' if it is to share the freedoms and liberties of the western countries in which many find themselves living. Killing over cartoons of the prophet Mohammed will not be tolerated and any Muslim who thinks otherwise needs to learn to deal with their responses and apparent outrage in a civil manner, most of course do but it needs to come from those scholars and so called self proclaimed Islamic authorities and to treat those critical of Islam and ex muslims with a sense of wisdom and tolerance.
Johan Galtung thinks that he can negotiate values the same way he negotiates borders. Values are not subject to dialogue. Negotiations are practiced on things, not values! Judgment can only be applied by superior force.
As if those "progressive" countries are not secular! Does it really matter who's country is the sponsor of that "progressive" values whether it is Israel, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Norway or whatever other country, does it matter?!
