In terms of 80’s toy/cartoon/comic franchises, I’d say they’re B-list in terms in terms of recognition, Below the Decepticons and the Foot clan, around the same level as Skeletor’s Council, and more recognizable than Mumm-ra’s forces
Cobra Commander isn't a great strategic or tactical combat expert ,but when you consider that he built a terrorist organization ,complete with it's own Airforce and a SPACE PROGRAM (?),took over a few towns ,established bases and safe houses around the world , recruted various professionals ( Storm Shadow,Firefly, Zartan) as well as enthusiastic weirdos (Crystal Ball , Raptor )all by selling cleaning supplies (?) . And the government had no idea !! He's an organizational genius for sure.

Cobra-La is a joke and the way there were introduce in the GI Joe 1980s film and they were the ones who were behind Cobra was forced and a stupid decision on the writers, director, and the producers made. Cobra-La shouldn't have been connected to Cobra at all. They were more of a science fiction alien race than a terrorist organization.
I cheered more for Cobra then I did for G.I.Joe. The rogue of villains are the best among TV shows and even comic books. If given the choice I would sign up with that group.
My family was too broke to afford GI Joe action figures.. I did get a few vehicles though. I’m thankful for that. I used the little green plastic army men with the vehicles.. The scale was off.. but it didn’t matter when I had the imagination I did. I had the GI Joe tank, the helicopter with the rotor thumb switch, and the jet with the forward swept wings. A couple cardboard boxes, and 30 or so army men, the vehicles, and I had an impenetrable base! Machine gunners, for mid range enemy advances, flamethrowers for close range, riflemen for designated marksmen, and strategic radiomen calling the shots for the vehicles. The dang minesweepers didn’t have much work. Then of course the ranked soldiers waving others on where to go. 😂
After watching this I noticed all the Dreadnoks aside from Zartan are missing. Also noticed the Neo Viper Commander is missing. Who appeared during the early 2000s G.I. Joe vs Cobra line.

Cobra Commander lived a long time. He was still alive in the future when he had a cameo in third season of Transformers.
