The equipment is not cheap, but one can start out on a sparingly budget. Here in New England the water is freezing, I think. So I shopped around for several wetsuits and found them a 4/3. 7 mm. And for late summer 1/5 and 2/5. Why be cold no fun. And 2 spearguns, now practice practice,and more practice. Thanks bearhunter5

Im absolutely terrified of the water. But I like watching these for some reason, makes my breathing feel all funny and I get anxious, but seeing you enjoy you're hobby is nice!
Glad you like them! It's one good thing about the UK. Nothing is going to attack you and you are very safe unless the weather quickly turns. On a flat calm day, it's like paradise.

As a spearfisher , i confirme that i almost never went for a dive session without seeing an Eel ! But we are hunting only big sizes and let the smalls to grow !

Does the spear alone usually kill the fish? As much as i love watching these videos, I often feel bad when the fish continues to move and flap around.
It depends where you hit the fish. Most of my shots are pretty effective. As soon as I get hold of the fish, I normally put it out of its misery.

How do you know where to aim with all those fishes or do you just hope one lands? This is so captivating and I love how you reply to every comment!
Most of it is down to experience but a general rule of thumb is to aim just in front. I like to aim around the mouth area and the time the spear hits, it’s normally an head shot. If you’ve never tried spearfishing before I really recommend giving it a go. I’m sure you’d really enjoy it 🤙🤙

I went snorkeling in East Boston Mass,2 days ago for the firist, wetsuit a 4/3. Awesome, but cannot see much but I stayed in the water for a full hour, so happy to find a new interest. Now to work on my breath hold. A little at a time. Thanks to the internet for all the positive videos. Thanks Bearhunter5

The first and only time I have been in the ocean, I had a very close encounter with multiple sharks. I haven’t been able to get back in since then.

Yesterday I spearfish for the first time and it’s just 🤩😆
How do you line up your shot for this sport? Is there like an iron sight or a cross hair? Doesn't the water make the fish bigger than it actually is? Do you have to account for that when you aim? Sorry for the questions. Fascinated but not brave enough to do it myself so just curious
Its a bit of a funny one, it takes a bit of practice to get used too but you basically use the spear as the foresight and the the trigger mechanism past as your rear sights. Line up the two and pull the trigger. There is some magnification underwater but everything is magnified, so everything is the same ratio if that makes sense. Where do you live?

@@DavidYarafaisou the issue with night time is that you feel kinda cheating! The fishes get in their caves and barely moves ! Which make the hunt waaay easier ..
i do hunt during the night as well , but during the day is better .

Nice video. Iv just bought a salvimar hero 115, 7.5mm spear,two 16 bands, all factory setup.
I cant seem to hit any fish. I am right handed i aim by fully extending my right arm tight grip then i close my left eye and aim with my right eye putting the fish target in the open front muzzle V , I lift the gun till the back bands are slighttly showing then shoot. Since you are very good with it, what am i doing wrong ? And how do you aim thanks. Shaft seems straight iv checkd it.

Ever see any sharks in the UK? I'm from Sunderland but live in Australia now wish I spear fished when I lived in the UK.
No sharks that are of any danger to us in the UK. We have blue sharks, portbeagle and basking sharks but none of them are a real threat. Yeah its a good place to spearfish. You should do it out there!

is your self built wooden speargun too buoyant and is it why you don't use it as much? just wondering cause I was thinking about building one myself or is it not worth it?
No I love using it but I don't really use it when I have the camera on. I managed to get a sponsorship with salvimar and spearfishing UK. So I tend to use the new speargun now
But totally worth building one. Mine is no longer buoyant as I used lead ballasts to prevent that

Wow this is really cool man. I could definitely get into this, living on the coast of Florida. The issue is alot of sharks here, especially on the gulf side of the peninsula 😶
Go for it! Its great fun, the sharks may be an issue but i'm sure you will get used to them. I've only ever seen videos but they normally steal your catch.
I spear fish in Florida, and while I have seen a few sharks none have ever tried to hurt me. They are usually just after your fish. So don’t let them stop you. Good luck

How do you go up so fast in 15 meters ? Don't you get decompression ?
You don’t need to decompress as you/I haven’t taken any oxygen whilst at that depth. It’s different to scuba diving where to need to decompress on the way back up
