- With Barney singing live!
Recorded on a very old VHS tape back 1993 - thank you to whoever left a Sony VCR out for free on my street, so I thought I'd share the love and digitise this for you all...forgotten I'd had it.
Ladies and gentlemen, the best song of the 1990s.
Still my favourite NO single, amongst MANY
I almost agree. 2nd best! (Enjoy The Silence just pips it to the post I reckon....annoying though, New Order trounce DM in every other way)
Amen!
Well Eno, like Robert Fripp, lives in a bit of an ivory tower looking down on Pop . Regret is a great pop song, just as Blue Monday was. Sometimes writing one shimmeringly good pop song will make your place in music history more assured than taking any number of mountains by strategy. Truly great visceral Pop songs are sadly few and far between and should be treasured when they appear.
Love this song and New Order. Peter Hook has a totally individual way of playing his low strung bass as a lead instrument.
*slung. they're all low-strung
i was only 8 years old in 1993, but this is one of my favourite songs ever. goes to show how time-enduring new order songs are.
Never thought I would see that again! That performance blew me away I was 13 at the time! Thanks!

LOL yes Hooky never did 'subtle'. On one of the 80's live shows (BBC Radio 1?) you can hear him pause briefly then twat someone who was heckling him over the head with the bass (or kick him, I forget) then carry on playing casually. Class.
In this band the bass is the boss..
I find this song to have a strange relationship with me. The album started with this song, and it was easily at least one of the top 5 New Order songs I have ever heard, and then I hated the rest of the album.
Take the Cannoli I agree with you, Republic was a pretty bad album, but Regret is such a good song. A lot of people say it's just a rehash of Ceremony, but I disagree.
Everyone Everywhere is also pretty great
I like Republic actually but everyone here knows Regret was the song that made the album.
@@Vanilladye yes I loved that album, but I think it was the start of the decline. Something they only turned around fairly recently (Music Complete).
Regret, World, Ruined in a Day, Times Change and Avalanche - all good to very good. Though New Order's bad is better than most other band's best.
I was nearly 2 when this song was released.
26 here , I grew up with them
Great song by a super band! New Order rules! Thanks for uploading!
i love this song.
...Brilliant...
I prefer this to Ceremony...so there!
New order at their awesome best :)
Great song !!!! Thanks.
Hooky!!
Great song.
GENIAL!
Thank you for this!
Thank you for uploading this.
Amoooo regret Minha musica🤩🤩🤩
HOOKIE!!!!
The last good New Order single. They should have split after this.
Every album after Republic is better than Republic, I say. But they never topped Technique, obviously.
I get the sentiment, but not true.
They did
waiting for the siren's call has some jams...the title track is as good as anything from their epic 80s streak.
@@juanpablorb7150 I never got with that album. It sounds like the Prozac which Barney was taking at the time - all 'falsely upbeat' and weird. Like an Electronic reject album (I like Electronic but their second album had the same issue)
Ahuitelno!
😍😍
Hey
You know I've met a lot of cool chicks
But I've never met a girl with all her own teeth
That's why I love you babe
That's why we could be
But you're too young
Too young
This song has a great hook… 🤣🤣🤣
This song sounds better live to me
Yeh but Eno never had as many hit singles though did he.
True, but when did having a hit a single make a difference? I'd rather go on a track being good or bad, rather than a hit or a miss. Regret is a very conventional record. You pay your money and takes your choice!
why
why not?
I'm amazed at how people like this song, for what is essentially a rehash of the excellent 'Ceremony' from 13 years earlier! This is when the rot started to set in, with Barney playing what Eno would call 'unnecessary rhythm guitar'. They unfortunately became a very conventional band from here on, though could still manage to crank out the odd good track.
Doesn't sound like Ceremony to me...and I've listened to Ceremony countless times.
Sound guy needs demoted to opening acts for the bass tone.
i love this song.
